  • Sam Harris amazingly insightful argument against Christianity. All Indian converted christians - please watch this and stop converting our country.
Sam Harris does not talk about conversion in India. But his clinical dissection of Christian theology is highly relevant to India which is a target of christian missionaries.
This video is a small part of a full debate at Notre Dame University
The God Debate II - Sam Harris vs William Lane Craig - • The God Debate II: Har...
    --------
The Churches of the world are in a mission to convert the entire country of India to christianity.
Its a shameful act, because Hindus are people who say "All religions lead to god. As many faiths, so many paths."
Converting such inclusive people into a new religion like christianity which says "Only my path correct and leads to heaven. Other paths wrong and lead to hell" - is a shameful act and changes the national character of India.
We need to open up our eyes to this dangerous western intervention.

All those who are evil by nature are ashamed remaining in Christianity. Evil person and Christianity don't match.
Only those who repent of their sins and evil nature can remain in and be a true Christian.

I was '71 my first visit in India in Varnasi.(Living in a house boat on Ganga)
Lots of tourists,And a lot religious pictures,
A Hindu holy man came to visit(Sadhu) Someone asked 'how many Gods are there?'
His answer was 'One!',The name is Parabrahman, God with no form and no attributes,
Ok not every one can understand that,so, many appear forms of God.Just like I play many roles, son, brother, husband, father, employer, there is a list of them but in the end I'm just me,
Hinduisn has no pope and no holy book,There are lots of stuff you can read and maybe youll find things that will help you or you can them ignore it,Dont believe, Find out!

david borrowdale You are right, but partially. The Form less God Faith in Hinduism is one sect or path or way to God that mostly followed by Pholosophers and more learned and meditating/yoga gurus. But some of them do some rituals also which has Idols. Hence Hinduism is very complex and people need to live in Hinduism for at least 3 years to know in depth.

      david borrowdale Very True:
We Hindu's Don't have a Holy BOOK but we have scriptures that we as Human's need to know and follow. That's the reason Human's are different than animals.
That great sadhu you met gave you short and precise information about Hinduism. We hindus believe in Human values and how to acquire Parabrahman - which is supreme cosmic spirit. To acquire Parabrahman one life is not sufficient - in old age sadhu's or saints used to meditate continiously for thousands of years. Now can we do it in today's life the answer is YES obviously not in thousands of years, but to be in that situation we need to be in that level, which is v difficult and it's hard still sadhu's are trying and many achieve also.
You must have heard about Vimanas ( flying objects ) in india long back around 5000-1000 years back. Have you ever thought how was that possible? This is possible only when we acquire Parabrahman. With a fraction of a sec you can go anywhere and even you can leave your body also ( like you travel with your soul).
These things might seem crazy in today's world but that's the truth and of course hard to believe.
Non hindu's sometimes say we have 33,000,000 gods. Which you can say true but only in ideology not by religion that's only one. As rightly you mentioned "Hinduism has no pope and no holy book"and " Hinduism is a flowing river.Religions are stagnant pools on the banks! "
Rest we are all humans and we all know what's true and what's FALSE.

david borrowdale You try to make a point of hinduism as a more benevolent spriritual way of believing. Well, it is a vast darkness into which millions of people get lost, while claiming to have light.
It shows the world and the universe in such a distorted way - like all religions do - that the people following it, will know nothing, comprehend nothing, just ramble on about things in an obscure dark manner to present their thoughts as valid and important.
Your hindu gurus are like that. Ignoramuses. but good at hiding their ignorance and incompetence in a shroud of the occult to make it seem holy and important. Just another way of lying and deceit people.

Christianity: claims to be the only right religion
Hinduism: views all religions as valid paths back to God
Christianity: claims that God only incarnated on the Earth once (one incarnation: Jesus)
Hinduism: claims that God continually incarnates onto the Earth (many incarnations: Krishna, Rama, Buddha, and so many others)
Christianity: defination of sin is anything that seperates a person from God
Hinduism: defination of sin is knowingly doing anything that harms another.
    Christianity: Ten Commandments
    Hinduism: Ten Commitments
Christianity: one sacred book with a closed canon
Hinduism: many sacred books with an open canon
Christianity: the Creator and Creation are seperate. God creates the universe from unknown materials and sets it in motion but remains apart from the universe.
Hinduism: the Creator and Creation are the same. God creates the universe from Itself and is both the manifested universe as well as still unmanifested beyond the universe
    Christianity: God is male
Hinduism: God is both male and female as well as neither.
Christianity: God's name is YHWH and in human form is Jesus
Hinduism: God is all names and beyond all names. Call God by whatever name : Jesus, Allah, Zeus, Shiva, or even Bob. God knows your intentions to address God regardless of the name.
Christianity: Images are not used at all or are strictly limited, but are never used in worship.
Hinduism: uses images (much like early Christianity used stained glass windows) to remind the viewer of spiritual teachings or aspects of God and use them to help focus the devotees mind during meditation or worship.
Christianity: the problem with humanity is that they have rebelled against God (sinned against God) and that only through Jesus can the relationship be restored
Hinduism: the problem with humanity is ignorance of their true Self and thinking that they exist seperate/outside of God. The solution is to reawaken to our true nature. To see God in ourselves and everything and everyone and thus treat (respect, honor, etc) ourselves, everything, and everyone the same way we treat God.
Christianity: God is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent...i.e. all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere....but is limited to Christians, Christianity, and Jesus.
Hinduism: God is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent...i.e. all-poweferul, all-knowing, and everywhere. God is not limited to one religion because God is in all religions, not limted to one religious group because God can use any religion to help a person back to God, and God is not limited to one incarnation or one name because God knows our intentions when we pray.
Christianity: If one is not a Christian they go to Hell...a place without God...where they will suffer for eternity
Hinduism: If one is not a Hindu that is okay. There is no place that is without God. A person may have an afterlife experience of suffering due to ones own conscious creation of the afterlife location or by their own karma (if they die unconsciously), but this state is temporary and the body will incarnate again.
Christianity: do not believe in reincarnation
    Hinduism: believe in reincarnation
Christianity: ultimate goal is to get to Heaven.
Hinduism: ultimate goal is to get to God.
Christianity: you can do enough bad things to be seperated from God and only through redemption from Jesus can you be brought back to God
Hinduism: you are never out of God's ability to draw you back to God (God is all-powerful)
Christianity: the Bible is inspired by God (heard by people from God)
Hinduism: the Vedas are the experience of God (people experienced...came into the presence of God directly)

Christianity: Does not claim anything. Christ said he is the way, the truth. Read his teachings and
      you will understand
Hinduism: views all religions as valid paths back to God. Really? then why you protest when one
converts to Christianity. That is absurd and contradictory to what your view.
Christianity: claims that God only incarnated on the Earth once (one incarnation: Jesus). YES
Hinduism: claims that God continually incarnates onto the Earth (many incarnations: Krishna,
Rama, Buddha, and so many others). lately I haven't seen a hindu god. He might be waiting for
Indian visa. Its absurd that you claim Buddha was god when he himself was atheist and believed in
action oriented living. He's the one who came up with Karma and popularized it which forced
Brahmanism to adopt the teaching of Karma.
Christianity: Sin is breaking the God's law
Hinduism: THERE IS NO CONCEPT OF SIN IN HINDUISM.
Christianity: Ten Commandments. and the most important - Love thy neighbour (this has a deep meaning)
      Hinduism: Ten Commitments. Which are????????????
Christianity: one sacred book with a closed canon - what do mean by closed canon? Read it
Hinduism: many sacred books with an open canon - again what do you mean? Can I edit it too as it
has been to make it good? Have you read the book called "The real ramayana"
Christianity: the Creator and Creation are seperate. Yes of course. But God is a part of the world. He
is with us in the for of Holy Spirit
Hinduism: the Creator and Creation are the same. God creates the universe from Itself and is both
the manifested universe as well as still unmanifested beyond the universe - Really? There is no
"God" in hinduism. Brahma created the world and brahmins from his head and shudras from his
feet. Hence they are lowest kinds of humans.
Christianity: God is male - No. God has no form.
Hinduism: God is both male and female as well as neither - AGAIN. There is no one GOD in post-
vedic Hinduism. There are billions of them males and females.
Christianity: God's name is YHWH and in human form is Jesus. His name was YESHUA and not Jesus
Hinduism: God is all names and beyond all names. Call God by whatever name : Jesus, Allah, Zeus,
Shiva, or even Bob. God knows your intentions to address God regardless of the name - cant see
your scriptures mentioning all these names. If this is what you believe it can be called philosophical
thinking and is not theistic. Also, then why you guys go and kill people who follow Yeshua or
      Mohammed??
Christianity: Images are not used at all or are strictly limited, but are never used in worship.
Hinduism: uses images (much like early Christianity used stained glass windows) to remind the
viewer of spiritual teachings or aspects of God and use them to help focus the devotees mind
during meditation or worship - You mean christians and muslims, zoroastrians, jews and
numerous others who dont use images dont focus or meditate. Either this or non-hindus are
      awesome in focusing and meditation!!!
Christianity: There is no problem with humanity. They sin with their conscience which is wrong.
Hinduism: the problem with humanity is ignorance of their true Self and thinking that they exist
seperate/outside of God. The solution is to reawaken to our true nature. To see God in ourselves
and everything and everyone and thus treat (respect, honor, etc) ourselves, everything, and
everyone the same way we treat God - This has nothing to do this Hinduism. This is philosophy
which has not done anything to the upliftment of Hindu society. There is poverty, hunger, illiteracy
everywhere in there. The problem with hinduism is there is lot of philosophy being taught by neo-
gurus but dearth of civilized laws and rules.
Christianity: God is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent...i.e. all-powerful, all-knowing, and
everywhere....BUT IS NOT limited to Christians, Christianity, and Jesus. He blesses and judges all
      equally.
Hinduism: God is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent...i.e. all-poweferul, all-knowing, and
everywhere. God is not limited to one religion because God is in all religions, not limted to one
religious group because God can use any religion to help a person back to God, and God is not
limited to one incarnation or one name because God knows our intentions when we pray -- Cite the
reference for this. I think this a philosophy. What about story of Brahma created the world, vishnu
takes care of it and shiva destroys it. If your are true then this story is wrong and should not be
hindu. Also why then you guys go and kill people who follow Yeshua and Mohammed??
Christianity: If one is a SINNER they may go to PURGATORY or to Hell...a place without God...where
      they will suffer for eternity
Hinduism: If one is not a Hindu that is okay. There is no place that is without God. A person may
have an afterlife experience of suffering due to ones own conscious creation of the afterlife location
or by their own karma (if they die unconsciously), but this state is temporary and the body will
incarnate again. --Here you contradict your statement of "SIN" in one of the line above. Yes there is
Karma but no sin in Hinduism. Also if there is no place without GOD then there is no Hell and if
there is no hell there is no sin. You see how you are confused in your own thing. Most of this sweet
sounding lines are just manipulations to attract a larger crows by these neo-gurus whose aim is to
get as much money as possible.
Christianity: do not believe in reincarnation
Hinduism: believe in reincarnation. Yeah I pray that you do not become a dog, or a rat in your next
life for you KARMA in this one. This is injustice - you do your karma in one life and get whopped in
      the next!!
Christianity: ultimate goal is to get to Heaven.
Hinduism: ultimate goal is to get to God. Which God? There are billions of them. One is in the
mountains, one in ocean, few are enjoying women dancing somewhere. Remember what I said about
      Post-Vedic Hinduism.
Christianity: you can do enough bad things to be seperated from God and only through redemption
from Jesus can you be brought back to God
Hinduism: you are never out of God's ability to draw you back to God (God is all-powerful)--- There
is no one GOD. And what will God draw one back from??? Also, If Hindu God can draw you back then
why you dont need karma. Karma is totally independent of God(s). This is what Buddha believed.
Christianity: the Bible is inspired by God (heard by people from God). The new testament - the book
of christians - was written by people according to the people account of Yeshua. You are wrong
Hinduism: the Vedas are the experience of God (people experienced...came into the presence of God
directly) --- Seems you have not read Rig Veda and others. Also it seems in today's post-vedic age of
hinduism vedas have been ignored and newer texts like ramayana, mahabharata (including
bhagvata gita) are given importance due to their support to war. Vedas are ritualistically sung few
times without even knowing their meaning.

Quantum Dude bible is like an ant compared to Gtia
Influence of Bhagavad Gita has not been limited to a single period in history or a single country in the world. The book has been highly praised numerous times not only byIndians but also people like Aldous Huxley, Henry David Thoreau, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Carl Jung, Hermann Hesse, and others.[1][2][3] Albert Schweitzer found in Gita "a profound influence on the spirit of mankind by its devotion to God which is manifested by actions."[4]
      Famous reflections[edit]
      Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
The Bhagavad Gita's emphasis on selfless service was a prime source of inspiration for Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Gandhi told-"When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and I see not one ray of hope on the horizon, I turn to Bhagavad-gita and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. Those who meditate on the Gita will derive fresh joy and new meanings from it every day".[5]
      Sri Aurobindo
According to Sri Aurobindo, the "Bhagavad-Gita is a true scripture of the human race a living creation rather than a book, with a new message for every age and a new meaning for every civilization."[5]
      Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda evinced much interest in Bhagavad Gita. It is said, Bhagavad Gita was one of his two most favourite book In 1888-1893 when Vivekananda was travelling all over India as a wandering monk, he kept GITA with him
      Aldous Huxley
Aldous Huxley, the English writer found Gita "the most systematic statement of spiritual evolution of endowing value to mankind.", He also felt, Gita is "one of the most clear and comprehensive summaries of perennial philosophy ever revealed; hence its enduring value is subject not only to India but to all of humanity."[5]
      J. Robert Oppenheimer
      J. Robert Oppenheimer, American physicist and director of the Manhattan Project, learned Sanskrit in 1933 and read the Bhagavad Gita in the original, citing it later as one of the most influential books to shape his philosophy of life. Upon witnessing the world's first nuclear test in 1945, he later said he had thought of the quotation "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds", verse 32 from Chapter 11 of the Bhagavad Gita.[7][8]
      Henry David Thoreau
Henry David Thoreau wrote "In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous and cosmogonal philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita in comparison with which our modern world and its literature seem puny and trivial."[9]
      Hermann Graf Keyserling
Hermann Graf Keyserling, German Philosopher regarded Bhagavad-Gita as "Perhaps the most beautiful work of the literature of the world."[10]
      Hermann Hesse
Hermann Hesse felt that "the marvel of the Bhagavad-Gita is its truly beautiful revelation of life's wisdom which enables philosophy to blossom into religion."[5]
      Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson said this about the Bhagavad Gita: "I owed a magnificent day to the Bhagavad-Gita. It was as if an empire spoke to us, nothing small or unworthy, but large, serene, consistent, the voice of an old intelligence which in another age and climate had pondered and thus disposed of the same questions which exercise us." [11]
      Wilhelm von Humboldt
Wilhelm von Humboldt pronounced the Gita as: "The most beautiful, perhaps the only true philosophical song existing in any known tongue ... perhaps the deepest and loftiest thing the world has to show.

Quantum God is everything and everything is God!!! each and every living thing as a divine soul inside it......A human body functions even for a 100 years but it gets destroyed after death, this is because the divinity leaves the body(like we change clothes, a soul changes bodies till its karma reduces to zero) we all can realize the divinity inside us but we don't make an effort to do it.....through yoga one can realize the divinity(thts y yoga is becoming very very popular in western countries)......Hinduism is a very very old religion(its actually not a religion but a way of life)..christianity came loong after Hinduism emerged..till then what was ur christ doing???(was he in coma??) u guys worship christ because he died for u right???? please go and see ur country's border 100s of army soldiers are dying for u everyday(aren't they greater than christ??) y aren't u guys worshipping them??? According to christianity if we don't worship christ we will be damned to hell right???? isn't that cheap???(God isn't cheap to judge people based on the religion..this single fact proves ur religion wrong) if u say God is a male than it means God has a physical body(that is not possible right??) your whole concept of God creating the universe within a week is sooo funny!!! first he'll create light and then he'll create light source(sun) u guys beleive in such an illogical God

The misperception of Hinduism is the cause of Westerners not being able to understand a complex religion. The religion is a philosophical and cannot be interpreted by mere reading of black and white texts. It's an Aryan based religion that relates to ancient Greek religions. Westerners believe there are hundreds of Gods and Goddesses in Hinduism where in fact there is only one Supreme being. A man can be a father, son, husband, brother, etc and still be that one man. The Western scholars who wrote books on Hinduism has not adequately studied the religion. There are so many flaws in their work that I scratch my head and wonder who gave them their doctorate degree. For anyone to learn the Hindu religion or Vedic culture and be able to consider themselves as scholars should first study Sanskrit. Then the rest will follow.

He was a Christian missionary. That man would not give me any rest...

When you go around claiming that god helped you find his keys and he is good, with no evidence and just ignorance, then you get criticized because thats how debate works. I come from a family of indians who are all hindu and I can't imagine who my grandparents would be without hinduism. 2. We believe in one Supreme God. All other gods a goddess are the incarnation or manifestation of that one supreme God.
    3. People of Dharma believe we are born divine and to reconnect with the supreme God ' Moksha', we have to be spiritually developed. This can take many lifetimes based on your karma.
    4. According to Lord Krishna in the Gita, we can get Moksha by:
    a. Karm yoga:doing your duty without attachment & leaving the results to God
    b. Bhakti or devotion
    c. Kriya or meditation,mantras etc
    d. Gyan or knowledge: study of Vedas Purana Gita and other holy books

      *****
ALL of your questions show ignorance.
God did not kill the firstborn of Egypt, the 'angel of death' did. And what their parents did to deserve that? Killed the male babies of Israelites by throwing them in the Nile.
God gave the people warning for 100 years before the flood took over and destroyed everyone except 8 (who incidentally were willing to suffer the ridicule of the very technologically advanced civilization that then existed). The children who died were a 'mixed breed' and their parents were responsible for them, just as parents are responsible for their children today.
The ones who were ordered to be killed used to have their virgins impregnated by their priests, and a year later sacrifice the same bastard babies to their gods. And that is fine, right?
'Whoever commits sin is a SLAVE to sin". So you are a slave (to sin) and have no idea what slavery is about at all! Pitiable.
Lot did not impregnate his daughters - his daughters got him drunk enough to not realize what he was doing.
Jesus dying by crucifixion was not God allowing His Son to suffer and die for the rot caused by a talking snake - it was fulfilling the requirement of death for sin, and that by the worst means ever known to man, so that even the worst sinner (if there is something like a worst sinner, all sin is sin and sinners deserve to die) can be forgiven.
If God is the healer, why did He create diseases? Do you realize the kinds of diseases that can be created in a Genetic Engineering lab? God did that, right?
If animals did not kill other animals, the population of animals would be so much there would be no place for humans. The animals were made for man, not man for animals. So if they didn't kill other animals, mankind would be pushed out of the world created for him.
So you see, God is not the monster!

I challenge your intellect to show me a single verse in the Bible a Christian has to do which is evil.
Show me a religious or atheistic teaching which is better than what the Bible teaches say, "love thy enemies" which solves social issues the world faces now.
Hope you won't fool yourself by quoting some Old Testament verses which no loner Christians are required to practice.
I doubt if you have any intellectual honesty to answer this question plain and straight

@matthew land: the best method of defence is attack, which is what Sam Harris is doing.
      1. Nowhere does the Bble COMMAND people to attack or kill anyone. Parts of the Bible are historical accounts (just like history books).Do you call history books evil because they talk about the slaughter of people???
      2. There is such a thing as justice. Every country in the world has a justice system which aims to judge & punish those who break the law, and in so doing, protect the innocent. Do you disagree with this?
If humans on earth practice justice (very imperfectly) do you think God cannot practice justice? God, who knows the hearts and minds of every being who ever lived?? Who is the only one who can judge perfectly? Do you suppose He needs our advice?
      3. Far from preaching evil, the Bible preaches love. In Leviticus 19: 17-18, Old Testament, we read: "Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt.
“‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord."
Do a google search to find similar verses which tell how one should behave, verses about love.
How come Sam Harris doesn't talk about these? WHy does he wilfully ignore these parts?

Insightful argument, maybe, but not a great argument. Sam Harris was arguing against man's argument about religion, against man's interpretations and actions in response to God's message ... and I think he just failed big time. Even I, who has limited knowledge of the Bible, can easily see that Mr Harris doesn't read much of the bible, is quite ignorant of the issue, lacks knowledge of what and who he is arguing against, and underestimates the strength of the faith of the people he is trying to convert into atheism.
