How The Sounds In 'Transformers' Movies Are Made | Movies Insider

- "Bumblebee," the latest movie in the "Transformers" franchise, makes great use of sound. We sat down with the sound team on the Paramount lot and learned all the sounds behind your favorite Autobots, from Optimus Prime to Bumblebee himself, as well as, of course, battles and explosions.
The "Transformers" movies are known for explosions and giant Autobots that crash into buildings. To make all that feel real, the sound has got to be just right. "Bumblebee," the latest entry in the franchise, was no exception.
To learn more about how the sounds you hear in the movie are made, we talked to the film's Foley team. Foley sounds are any sounds based on a character's interactions and movements. Usually that means human characters, but it can also apply to the sounds of animals, and, in this case, big metallic creatures. Many of Bumblebee's movements aren't different than what you'd expect from a human character, but he's made of metal, so he's going to sound different.
This is Dawn Lunsford, Alicia Stevenson, and David Jobe, the Foley team behind the movie.
"Bumblebee" is available now on digital and on Blu-ray April 2.

The transformers movies have always had some amazing sound design. And bumblebee was no exception. I also appreciate how they were able to incorporate the original transformation sound into the sound mixing

Honestly I think this is the best transformers movie they’ve ever made. Not focusing too much on a bunch of action. With a great development and story this is totally a movie I would watch again and again!
If you've been in the fandom long enough, you would know that each version of the series has their own unique transformation sound. Personally my favorite is Transformers Prime. The metallic sounds gets me every time 😂

Marbles rubbing together in the parm of a hand that could be one of the sounds or some sort of ball baring rubbing against another metal material...
Definitely a combination of everything layered over each other, mechanical and industrial sounds stretched or completely reworked and most likely synths were used to gel things together, a lot of modulation in general. You have to use your imagination. Maybe even some organic sounds too.

Nemesis Prime is a Decepticon however i see ur confussion as Michael Bay is a dumbass and doesn’t understand Nemesis Prime is a different being than Optimus Prime. We’ve had evil OP’s before but they still referred as Optimus Prime some fans nicknamed brainwashed Prime: Badimus Prime; but Nemesis has always been an evil duplicate of Optimus Prime.

This is one of my favorite parts of the movie creation process; sound design. Without good sound FX, great movies wouldn't be so great. Shout-out to all those hard working Foley artists.

Oh absolutely, and I'm thankful for that also! But recently, the film series was in need of a new direction and rejuvenation, and I feel Travis Knight helped achieve that.

#2) Megatrons fusion cannon
#3) autobot gunfire
#4) decepticon gunfire
#5) unmolested G1 transforming sound ( from robot to alt-mode and alt-mode to robot). Any of these would have made for a more authentic movie watching experience.

I wish the Bayformers franchise put in the same effort in their scripts and movie continuity as the teams responsible for graphics and sound.
Oh well... At least we got Bumblebee to reset that.

It's like how they made the sound of jormungandr in god of war. That literally sent king of shivers down my spine when it's sound design kicked in, but especially it's insanely powerful voice. And i hated not having THE sound system when i first heard him talk lol.

Even as sound technician it’s very interesting to see, how the sound design of these movies is made.
