  • In Steve Martin's first major television appearance on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1968, he shows off his juggling expertise.
    The Smothers Brothers
    The Smothers Brothers, Tom and Dick, are one of the most iconic comedy duos in the history of television. Tom and Dick began performing as a duo in the late 1950s, playing in coffeehouses and clubs in San Francisco. Their act consisted of music, comedy, and witty banter, which quickly gained them a following.
    The Smothers Brothers became a household name in the late 1960s with their variety show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. The show was groundbreaking in its approach to comedy, pushing the boundaries with political satire and social commentary. The show also featured up-and-coming musical acts, including The Doors and The Who, and introduced the world to comedians like Steve Martin and George Carlin.
    The Smothers Brothers' irreverent style has made them a beloved and enduring force in American comedy.

    I saw Steve Martin at a state fair in 1977. I was only 6 years old, and my memory of that night is very minimal. Riding in the back of our station wagon on the way home wrapped in blankets, half asleep... eating cotton candy... and this crazy, goofy guy on stage who was able to cross generational lines and make EVERYONE laugh, me at 6 years old, my mom at 23, and my grandparents, who must have been in their late 40's or 50's at the time. We were all laughing. He is a treasure.

Then they said it was when he was on saturday night live & everytime tbe show aired he would say “dis u see it?” & tbey said “yes steven!” & steve would then say “was i good?!” & tbey smiled & said “yes u were great” and he (steve) would be so happy

He was hilarious. 😂 He was the opening act for Earth Wind & Fire in a small venue when I worked for Ticketmaster when I attended school at the University of NM in Albuquerque in the mid to late seventies. That was an awesome show! Steve was WILD! And EW&F was Rockin & Tight. I remember at one point the techs elevated the drummer's stage and had him revolving in a 360° as he played his solo! 🤩🤪🤯🥳😃 That entire show was MAGNIFICENT! • @bhornannawindeedeigh5007
      @bhornannawindeedeigh5007 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @guitarfan01 Yes, it is. They had a Ticket Office on our campus, and we actually printed out hard copy tickets there. It was cool. The customer would choose where they wanted to sit for whatever concerts we were selling, I'd punch it into the computer, hit print, and the connected printer would print out the hard copies. It was like an old-school theater ticket booth - very small... only enough room for one person (two if we were really busy). On concert nights, we also had access to the bigger ticket booths at Popejoy Hall, where up to 3 of us had a computer and printer. Oh my GAWD, it was the best job to have in college! First dibs for all the concerts wherever they were held in the city - some were on campus in the small venues, like Johnson Gym (where I saw Steve Martin & Earth Wind & Fire, amongst a few other greats) and Popejoy Hall (where I saw Patti La Belle & The Blubelles). But I also sold tickets for David Bowie, The Eagles, The Doobie Brothers, Tower of Power, Jerry Garcia, The Band, Chicago, Linda Ronstadt, Muddy Waters and just a whole bunch of other greats that played at The Pit in Albuquerque, which was where the UNM basketball team played their games. That stadium is huge, so the concerts were amazing. 🤩❤️ Anyway, I'm going all nostalgic now - and feeling quite old. 😅 Those were some very good times for me. Working for Ticketmaster as a work-study job on campus at UNM was one of my favorite jobs ever. My boss, Gary Golden, was the best guy in the world. I'll never forget him. He had the perfect last name - he had a heart made of gold... he was a wonderful man. 🥰😇
