"Designing to protect and enhance nature": Plans on building a 500m 180km long wall blocking all access for animals to pass through
Not to mention the natural flow of dessert sand.
In a few years, the entire wall will be buried in sand on one side, and a deep ditch will appear on the other side, opposite the prevailing wind.
what animals live out there. like a camel or something.
it's a desert not the cotswolds. nothing lives out there
@@burritodog3634 Imagine thinking deserts have no life. Have you ever been to one before?
and wind
"Line city" is what I call my bathroom on a Saturday night
what is this a line for lines 😂
make sure you got keys when you go to line city
I want a line😅 I mean fuck I wanna wait in line ( for a line )
Can I PLEASE get an invite to your next Saturday night party 🙏🙏🙏
@@hagdore consider yourself there
Imagine being a country entirely ran off oil money and then saying "yall are ignoring nature"
Oil? That naturally occurring thing that is a byproduct of living things decomposing and comes out of the literal ground?
i think u havent heard bout america..
@@thebook5458 Or consumerism, also from America.
well...nature gave them oil so...
@@thebook5458believe it or not, America is rich on natural resources and is a leader in IT, sciences and unfortunately Pharmaceuticals.
"Live by the spice, Die by the spice" - the best explanation for economies that rely mainly on oil or any other limited source.
yeah not like the author intentionally wrote it like that to draw a parallels. no but you figured it out, genius.
Hahahahahhahaahah😅
I will say this and say it again. Despite controversy, Israel is a powerful nation today because they prioritized investing in their land before all this garbage. Same with the Netherlands, USA, and countless other western countries
Israel planted 250 million trees to turn all of their unliveable swamps into lush forests, and made turning their deserts into arable farmlands a top priority. The Dutch constructed massive dams to extend their territory and protect their people against mass flooding. USA, in the past massively expanded arable land, terraformed their swamps, extracted the entire inner California region for development, and is currently investing their billions into Hurricane protection infrastructure
Saudi could have greened their deserts by investing all that money into proper terraforming projects. But no, the Saudi Government wanted to build this instead. Hell, Australia is drafting plans to start greening the outback
It is no coincidence why these nations remained stable and livable, while these gulf countries run into Crisis after Crisis
@@burritodog3634 I didn't know you could read minds and knew exactly what Herbert was thinking when he wrote that. Either way, stop being a pretentious jerk and allow people to enjoy media and reference it in a completely appropriate and valid way. After all, that's a pretty important purpose of science fiction as art, to give people a lens to see technology and society through that allows them to comprehend complex historical webs of causes and effects that happen in reality through metaphors.
@@CJCGamingSA did do green projects. There is not much you can do without a single river in your nation.
Buddy, Israel famously has some of the best farmland in the Middle East.
My favorite part is how the verticality combined with the narrow profile means "The Line" comes with a baked in caste system of the wealthiest living up top and the worse off fighting for sunlight at the bottom while trash rains down on them. This whole idea is straight out of a dystopian future novel
Honestly…😟 100% got it right
Why pay for carbon costing waste removal when you can just force people to live in it? 🤮
holy fuck, it's just Elysium 😂
So... a less practical warhammer 40k hive city?
Odds it ends up being like the movie “the platform”
If you've ever seen a magnifying glass' effect on ants I dont think i need to elaborate on why a 106 mile long wall of glass is a bad idea.
Who first came up with this idea?!
It's a flat mirror, not glass. Pay attention.
Hey, maybe the radiation will bring the world it's first feral ghouls.
One look at that mirror reflecting the sun and you'll never see again 🤣 🤣 🤣
"Let's make the Kowloon Walled City but longer and thinner!" is the ultimate in cocaine thinking.
This is what you get when your prince plays too much city skylines on god mode
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This just sounds like a rich Saudi prince started reading sci-fi and was like, WRITE THAT DOWN
Saudi Arabia for MBS and the government: NEOM: The Line
Saudi Arabia for everyone else: Spec Ops: The Line
Ayo big up for remembering Spec ops: The line. Masterpiece.
Damn that's a very clever joke. I salute you sir/madam.
I was thinking of something along that line too....
I remember how they banned the game in the Emirates because of how it depicted dubai. I'd say it was an improvement.
Lmao we're getting close to that, Saudi Arabia is hell on earth.
a wise man once said "smooth brained dictator plus construction project equals dumb shit”
Oh yes that racist.
yep, this applies here as well
@@AL-lh2htnah
@@AL-lh2ht How is that racist?
Trust a prince to come up with a completely aloof, disconnected from reality idea...and then try to get his subjects to fulfil it. Next in line - he wants to have all the sand in the kingdom painted purple. For he is a royal and only purple will do. He wants a purple kingdom, dam it.
Purple Rain
Look upon my works, ye migthy, and despair..
It's quite easy to do so, especially when you receive filtered information and only ever get good news.
The Romans knew the danger of this, when they did the victory triumphs in Rome, a slave would stand behind the leader and whisper "Memento Mori" (remember that you have to die) to remind them of their mortality and bring them back to reality.
In medieval courts, the job of the jester was to mock everyone including the king and a way to let the leader know that an idea was stupid without making him upset.
Of course this does not work in the mideast, in Arab culture, mockery is deemed as humiliation and anyone who even questions the Crown Prince can be jailed indefinitely or even executed.
Funny you mention painting the sand. At 5:06, the bottom paragraph if what Phil is reading talks about, “beaches with glowing sand”
Suddenly that Willy Wonka's Prince who wanted a palace made out of only chocolate sounds a bit more reasonable
I saw that mirror wall they got going on, im interested how many birds will unalive themselves flying into that…
Same thought!
Yep it's in a hugely busy migration area & it also cuts off land animals ability to move & so reduces breeding etc. Idiots
I’m not any type of engineer, but I’m willing to bet there are way more environmentally friendly and economical ways to build and maintain a city. Imagine what that mirrored surface is going to do to everything around it as it reflects the sun’s light. Just cleaning it would create a legendary cost to water and probably human lives.
Don't Imagine, read about certain buildings in london that you can't park next to because the glass in the building magnifies the light in a way that sets cars below on fire.
@@andersonisowo9603 Jeebus. Well there ya go. I was thinking of solar farms cooking birds when they pass through but that’s a more applicable example.
You get the distinct feeling that this project was never intended to succeed. Just attract attention. Because there's no such thing as bad publicity for many.
Well, i would even be willing to say that this is also a gigantic attempt at doing money laudering at scales unprecedented.
That’s why they employe so many influencers to promote Dubai
This is an excellent premise for a horror movie
This sounds like if an evil wizard cast a curse on your city, to teach everyone a unique moral lesson based on their shortcomings
Demolition Man 2. Maybe this time they'll teach us how to use the 3 seashells
The mirroring part is just keeps giving me the vibe of a blinding hot mess… that not counting the other issues.
by far the most "glaring" issue, if they can't see that _ that detail of the project is wrong, then they can't see much of anything with the rest of it, those people are going to cook
Nothing says nature like a straight metal line filled with humans
This looks like an ad from a dystopian future movie like Elysium.
They are probably planning just that. Thats why they are in a hurry to move to mars
11:30 Looks like "World-leading architects" play Mass Effect in their spare time
MBS and Boeing goin band 4 band on silencing dem dissidents 😤💪🏾
So those poor people living there died for nothing. They were ripped in peace for nothing. They didn't even die for some actual city being built and people moving in on their land. They were offed for someone's joke.
"Starter pack Satchels and Turkey teeth" -Phillion💀😭
An octagonal structure called the Oxagon caught me so off guard by how hilariously stupid and uncreative it is I actually started half-choking.
170km of mirror in the most sunny area in the world 😂
What can possibly go wrong 😂
"smooth brain dictator + construction project = dumb shit"
It's easier to list the things that are plausible to work in this project than those that simply won't or just at an absurd price.
This is what happens when the wrong person gets a cheat code in Minecraft, he calls himself the Prince_MBS!
Somebody should tell MBS about this fascinating thing called a "circle," before fleeing into hiding.
How does philion not have 1 million subs yet?! This guy has been putting out pretty solid content for the 5 years or so ive been watching. This guy is consistent and confident in his pov.
saudi arabia has been failing to entice foreign capital investments these last few years. investors seem skeptical that saudi arabia will succeed in diversifying its economy beyond oil since they have seen their investments in tech and sports pretty much fail to yield the necessary results. and despite opec+ cutting production rates like 10 times in a row oil prices refuse to go up. the saudi government must be panicking
And on top of that, if the Saudis keep partnering w CHN they risk losing their US protection - then it’s Game Over because the Iranians will invade on a heartbeat.
A line shape. How very efficient. 😂
Imagine the heat in front of that giant solar wall. Not a bad idea only if you plan to get free steaks out of passing camels.
Dude can't figure out how best to burn his oil money. 😂
Thanks for covering this project. There can't be enough true information about this insanity
“If you cant see the joke then I have snake oil to sell you” had me dead. Love the quips you throw Phil
Some nations just don't deserve having that much money. I cringed so fucking hard when they first announced that project.
We got a teaser trailer for cyberpunk dystopian city before GTA 6.
commenting because im loving the consistency
I work in the real estate economic sector, and i had to make a Presentation about the line.
I covered how absolute senseless it is, how unrealistic and how the shape of it is the worst out of all.
A line? So point A to B is the longest way possible.
You're an engineer out in the middle of nowhere with the Saudi crown prince. You look around and what do you see? Nothin' but open desert. "Ahh, there's nowhere for me to run. What am I gonna do, say 'no?'" Yeah, if you say "no" then the answer obviously is "no"... But the thing is you're not gonna say "no", you would never say "no" because of the implication.
Based Always Sunny enjoyer.
Seeing a new Third Eye video on my feed is an absolute blessing
"We will deliver something unprecedented."
The one quote in this whole debacle that I truly believe.
These consistant uploads are a blessing king.
If the line was circular it’d be 54 km in diameter and we’d have a circular city walled by “the line” as a buffer
Just imagining all the snapped neck birds decorating the land around the line. Inside it be sounding like Chad is fighting the sheetrock again...
Imagine living in a country, where at any point you're insane royals can you just decide. They want to play Minecraft in real life and if you don't like it they'll kill you. Insane that's the only word I can use to describe the situation. I'll be praying for those poor people who have to live under this nutcase. Me the Lord be with them.
In Saudi Arabia, influencers fall under the category of “advertising marketers.” Non-Saudi residents must obtain licenses from the Saudi General Authority for Audiovisual Media to create sponsored content. Failure to obtain a license can result in hefty fines.
a circle or hexagon would be so much better... with a huge garden or forrest at the center.
Why not?
Because the creators of this dystopian nightmare want its populace to be as downtrodden, apathetic and disconnected as humanly possible; people are much easier to control that way.
You can't grow a damn forest. It's a desert wasteland.
Or garden.
@@spookshow6999 depends, in a relative controlled and secure area like the inner of a circle it could be possible i assume.
"Organized in 3 dimensions" are they flexing that all matter exists in 3 dimensions 😂. All objects live in 3d
the backshots line while the outro music played was gold, hahaha
Interestingly enough, the company I work for was in a bidding war to build the internal logistics for the warehousing on or near "the line". Everybody got excited about a juicy project then the excitement died off as Neom started ghosting all of its contractors. This whole thing really is a scam.
3:24 that Sardaukar background voice was such a cool add in.
This has to be a sci-fi dystopian novel at this point.
i love how phil always describes the exact words in my head
You want to see the offshore theme park that looks like a giant oil rig they're planning to build.
The problem with NEOM is that it is based in Saudi Arabia and backed by Oil money with Sharia law. LOL
14:00 “Bro is really trying to *stand on business* 👁️👄👁️”
😂😂😂😂😂 Phil so funny bro
He saw Kowloon and went bet.
Someone really thought it would be cool to replicate one of the arms from the Citadel in Mass Effect.
11:42 😂 that had me doubled over! 🤣
As a Saudi, i can tell you that place is pure hell. People literally get locked up over Twitter posts and likes, with sentences ranging from 7-14 years..
You could have mentioned the could seeding flooding that happened a couple months ago
Straight up looks like the architectural concepts out of Blade Runner 2049 or a Black Mirror episode. Are they getting together in meetings and are like: “How can we make the world progressively worse” 🤔
You know NEOM is screwed when the 3rd eye is watching🤣😂🤣😂
That looks like itll be right in the middle of the Dakkar Rally lol
Lmao the forcing rain part got me. It's the same as people in the southwest watering their yards constantly year-round to get their strugglegrass to grow. It's the desert, stop.
Yes a smart idea of…not producing crops to feed their massive population.
Someone's been sniffing too much petrol
There was a Dubai pre-roll ad for me right before this vid.
No journey in "THE LINE" will take more than 20min because you can't have journeys in a city that won't be built.
Thanks for the best video
Love you Phillllll
Nice mirror finish in the middle of a desert. No issues there I am sure
Lol. My favourite youtuber roasting where I work 😊
We need more mini documentaries.
This reminds me of the episode in the Simpsons, ‘Dome’ 😂😂
They're mad about ignoring nature while The Line is over here ignoring the laws of physics.
11:59 the commercial 😂
*Spec Ops : The Line* was less of a hellscape than this
I don't get why no one ever mentions the fact that they are constructing a miles long giant mirror in the blazing sun. This thing has to reflect that light somewhere and it's likely going to make the desert hotter than it already is. That or it will begin setting things on fire that are miles away. I fail to see how building a giant mirror in the desert is a great idea.
I literally cackled when I saw that actress lady floating like a swan over the fake waters of the 1984 city in their puff piece ad. Was not ready for that lol.
Imagine being stuck in a building that feels like a prison and looks like your on mars.... depressing
World slaying Philion is my favourite Philion..
The "idea" reminds me of Logan's Run, old movie but equally dystopian.
I'd think it'd be covered in the world's largest sand dune. Sand, loves to drift, and cover entire towns.
“there goes all of her rights” 😭😭😭
As a city planner, I thought it was impossible to make EVERY wrong decision when making a city, but NEOM managed it. With the exception of the 5-minute city (it's called 15-minute city in the real world), they are just actively crippling their city's infrastructure.
World class move by mentioning Kushogi, few remember or mention his slaying
I remember scientists or animal experts saying this would negatively impact animals.
Imagine a zombie apocalypse there. You’re a sitting duck.
You know that a ton of "influencers" would move there just for the attention.
10000% some rich oil princes dumbass idea.
from a construction standpoint alone it seems impossible
Looks like a new mirror edge game 😂
Yes, West Asia is not known for its urban planning
I like how they call the structure of the bridge a "facade". Very transparent indeed.
The thin white line powdr probably inspired those behind the Line city..someone else should design counter-city where everything looks like in the movie Idiocracy 2006, president Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho promoting it...gorgeous sustainable pup decks round the corner whatnot.😛.. Cool channel btw love it!!
I‘m honestly interested in how they implement this. Seems pretty good to me
finally not trash content
Yea, kind of agree. This topic of content is the best of Philion..
You're so rich, you want to start living in a wall 😢😢
