from my home-town. (Not born here but lived here his entire short life) He is the only thing we have to be truly proud of. But most people dont realize... Bless ya Charlie.
What beautiful music and such a pleasant tune! For me it is moving to listen to these voices of long ago and far away!Thank you so much for posting these gems!
I heard this many years ago as music background to a furniture store commercial in Chedicamp, Nove Scotia, Canada... what a tune. I play it myself, figured it out in D and found my fingering to be same as New Lost CityRamblers' version.... whoopee...
I just did, too. Actually two different ones...one with 80 tracks and one with 93. Lots are duplicates, but I really don't care. Can't get enough of Charlie Poole!
Thank you for the information. I know very little about the musicians that I put up, and I am always interested in learning more. Do you have any requests for videos that I should make in the future? Thanks again, Brian
Posey Rorer never sang - that was Roy Harvey. He played guitar for Charlie Poole and also for Posey Rorer have he left Charlie. I wish I could hear Posey's voice just once. But no one has ever heard him sing or identify him in a talking part on the supposed train ride to New York where they recorded as Posey Rorer and the North Carolina Ramblers.
Thank you for the info, I didn't know the recording date. I have a song that says like the title and then says led by Posey Rorer. Who was this man, I have heard of him, but I don't really know much about him. Was he a co leader of the band with Charlie Poole? Any info you could give me would be appreciated and welcome. Thank you for watching and have an awesome night. Merry Christmas!

Dunno if yr still on YT. I can tell you some things about Charlie. A few things few people know. Im from his hometown. Nobody ever made a difference here. Hes the only person we have to be proud of really. But the facts about him are usually twisted. Especially his death. This is a small town. A little over 20,000 I think. Just a dump little town on the map but every year there is a festival honoring him. (Charlie Poole Festival) I have never attended it. Nor will I ever. Its bolonie. ~"Jen"
( NoRoseForMe is my other channel) Well.. since i made that last comment I have to say I have been impressed with the festival. It was about 2 years ago. It was not bolonie. lol It was not over-played bluegrass. It was true folk music. Fantastic musicians. I assumed it would be drivel. Bluegrass is not the same as this magical stuff. The festival was a true folk festival. About his death-- he was known for drinking. But one day- Charlie was on a bender. His wife was upset and made a big thing about it. Charlie was brought in to a local doctor. He had of course passed out by then. The doctor administered a shot of some kind. Charlie turned purple and died on the table. True story. And nobody knows what the shot was. There was a big stir about his drinking and then... he was dead. The wife never explained a thing apparently. Ignorant locals + quack doctor=sudden death.
by the way...i dig Charlie too. Just hate the fact that his legacy is now associated with ,,,ugh,,,blue grass. This is old-time folk music. He was also a great blues-man and rag-time musician. NOT blue-grass..which is why i refuse to attend the yearly festival. Have a good'un and peace to you
Why is it that from time to time I'll read something that says Charlie Poole was black? Not that it makes any difference. Some of my favorite musicians are black. But if he was white, why is that written?
There were no magazines and no photos then. People were mostly poor and had no idea who they were listening to-- if they had a chance to hear him. And-- he did his own versions of blues songs which are great. His voice sounds much older than he actually was. Think about it. And listen to this: czcams.com/video/rL4J-XIAKvw/video.html
Definitive version of Ragtime Annie. Great group.

That's pretty cool, I didn't know exactly where Charlie Poole was from. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for posting. I have now ordered a four CD set.

LOL! IGOROZKARSKY I did the same thing! A lot of good ole material here isn't there!!
Charlie Poole was on banjo, I think, but I don't know who fiddled for this song. I am sorry that I couldn't be more helpful.
Posie Rorer
I agree, check out the Drunkards Hell with him fiddling. First rate fiddling. Hope you have a great day! Brian

NoRosesForMe what's wrong with the festival? And what's up with his death?
