9:59 the moment Anna lost by warning mom not to play that move. I've noticed that when Mom plays a move and Anna's next move always results in mom saying "I expected that'.

It's almost impossible for her to become a gm, she wouldn't waste her time trying.
It’s still possible, but it won’t be cheap. Just like Nemo’s parents did (not her fault): “ She scored 38% against Western European, Asian and other female players with an average rating below 2200. In the same events Zhou managed to score nearly 80% against titled players from Eastern Europe with an average rating above 2300. Elsewhere, Zhou Qiyu hasn’t beaten an opponent rated higher than 2256…”
This hints at Nemo Zhou’s parents paying Eastern European Grandmasters with +2300 elo to lose against Nemo, since you can see how much she was struggling at scoring 38% versus Western Europeans, Asians, and other women that were weaker than 2200. Most likely, they were not “for sale”. You can see Andrea Botez beating Nemo here on CZcams yet Andrea is only 1700…

@@scoutbane1651 Well, Serbia can be by some definitions be counted to be part of Eastern Europe (orthodox christianity vs catholic/protestant Central Europe). However, I would call it Southeastern Europe, but however you call it that does not tell you how good people playing chess there. Certainly, there is some big tradition in Russia, but we have seen great players from many parts of the world.

Her mom threw the second game twice, when she retreated her queen to “defend,” and at the end she could have queened but decided to seek a draw by repetition. She’s the sweetest mother.

There was no queening at the end, the draw was forced. White had perpetual check as well and the only way to block it would be to trade into a likely losing endgame
I also think she gave it to her.

This feels very relatable: playing a relatively good game and then randomly leaving my queen hanging is something I definitely do. To be fair, though, I just do so out of the blue, not when a fork is already costing me my rook at best...

Anna, in Game 1, after you played Qxf8 capturing the rook ( around 11:10 ), Mom could have taken your Queen with ... Bxf8. ... You cannot fork Mom's King and Queen with Nf6+ because your Knight is pinned by Mom's Queen !

And when Mom moved N5d4 at 9:35, Anna didn't notice, and I don't think her mom did either. It sat like that until mom noticed at 10:35 with just a few seconds left on Anna's clock.
Anna mentions Bxf8 at 11:23. And i think the reason Pia didn't take the queen was because she wanted to keep her own queen safe

looks like a nice day - in NY I used to play uptown, at another club, but every now and again I'd have opportunity to visit the Marshall. I hope you were able to enjoy Ray's Pizza, across 6th Ave., and also Balducci's market. In the evenings, especially on the weekends, we'd go to 8th St, for the movies, or sometimes to Bleeker, usually for music. Hope you're enjoying!

Like the way GM plays. First, positional exchange sacrifice. And she wasn't eager to grab that exchange back, since her strong knight was more stronger piece than poorly placed rook.
And for myself, who plays Benoni as black all the time, it was very interesting to see this unusual setup with pawn on h6, knight on e7 and pushing f5. Very different ideas became possible, like black fighting for d4 square and so on.

@22:05 Mom could have moved the Ng3 forking your Queen and Rook. If you moved the Queen anywhere she would take your Rook and because it is lined up with her Rook you could not take back with the King, then she could have moved her Queen in for the mate. If you did take her Knight back with the Queen she could have taken your Queen with her Rook and then have an end game with her pawns and Queen. She missed that when she moved her Knight to h4 instead.
In responds to Ng3 she could play rook takes f8 check and then save the queen
