    Enjoy your videos . Had a 64 XL convertible back in the day 😊Not sure why the concern about the fuel tank straps , the old tank hung in for almost 60 years .

      Yeah, they used that design on thousands & thousands of cars so I wouldn't be too worried, especially with new parts.

    This sending unit problem is not only Ford specific. A replacement part from a Pontiac specialist did not work well on my 65 Catalina. It jumped down to empty again and again. Because the float had a wrong bend. We had to duninstall the tank again and put an original part in. Now it is working well.

    I did the same job on my '64 XL, but went with the '64 tank. Fit like factory, and was under $300 on Rock Auto. The replacement straps didn't fit as well, so kept the factory straps. After 3,000 miles, some of it on some pretty rough roads, and the tank is still solid using the hooks. For anyone reusing the factory pickup, be careful that it doesn't have any pinholes. Mine did, barely visible, but enough to pick up fuel over the years. Good advice about checking the height on the float. I made sure the replacement worked, but got ahead of myself and didn't also check the height. It's off by about 1/4 tank. Still better than not having a working gas gauge, and you learn pretty quickly to compensate.

    Glad to see you back in action on the Galaxie . I just got mine back on the road here in the Northeast . New gas tank , straps , j - bolts , p/u , etc . Received the wrong lock ring gasket so I made one out of rubberized cork , works well . I used ptfe fuel lines instead of rubber due to the ethanol in the gas herein NJ . Keep up the good work .

    Hey Omar, Good to see the Galaxy getting some attention. With regard to the straps, I didn't particularly like how the bends on the straps did not match the contour of the tank itself, though probably not an issue. As far as stability goes those strap will hold no doubt. Can't wait to see the new interior get installed. Awesome video !

      @OmarRamirezGalaxie  Před 10 měsíci

    The fuel line routing looks pretty good overall but you want to make sure it's not touching the frame anywhere unless it's clamped. You can get some 3/8ths fuel line and cut it in 1 or 2 inch lengths, then slit it along its length to use to protect the line anywhere it might touch. The hose will usually keep its shape but you can use some 3M weatherstrip adhesive (gorilla snot) to glue it to the fuel line if necessary.

    If the factory installed the same type tank straps I wouldn’t trip on it. I have never heard of a tank falling out. Never really heard of them falling out from a rearend accident although I’m sure a big enough crash would knock it loose but you would definitely have other concerns. I think you’re good.

    Looks there is enough material below the strap slots in the cross member to add one self tapping screw to each strap to securely anchor them.

    Super job completing the fuel system. Could you have left the tank on the ground fill it with water hook up the power and adjust the float that way before permeant installation?

    • @OmarRamirezGalaxie
      @OmarRamirezGalaxie  Před 8 měsíci

      I would avoid the water just because it will make the tank more susceptible to rust. The way I did it on my Torino is fill the gas tank all the way and see what the gauge reads. Once the gas runs out I drain it, bend the arm, and repeat until it gets close enough.

    F57B is the correct tank for this car, but it costs more like you said. The F57D is actually what they use in 64 Galaxie Wagons and this may be where some confusion lies. Both of these Spectra tanks have an issue with the stock gas cap not fitting though, I have only been able to use the 80's push on caps that use the keys and don't twist.

    • @OmarRamirezGalaxie
      @OmarRamirezGalaxie  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes that’s correct F57B. I ordered some gas caps that are supposed to fit but they didn’t haha. I’ll have to find an original one new old stock I’m guessing since the Torino one fit

    Should get a hold of Craig and see if you can get him to build you a fuel door and cap like the one he did for his two 64 Galaxies. They look pretty slick. Think his channel is Craig909 or something like that. Guy's obsessed with the old F series trucks though... I have no idea why when he has those Galaxies and the mustang, a 67 Fairlane [I mean thta car right? why the trucks is byopnd me] lol Love these cars Omar. Nice!

    Hey buddy;
    I've seen the strap loop through those 'hooks' on some cars; can you loop the strap through those slots 'n then fasten it to itself? I hope I'm explaining clearly. Great video brother 👊

    • @OmarRamirezGalaxie
      @OmarRamirezGalaxie  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi Mike, that’s a good idea as well. I can see putting some straps through those hooks, the slot end is closed off however. I’ll have to take a closer look and see if there’s another hole somewhere to attach
