I was stoked when p30 was available on their website. I ordered 2 rolls and one of them is in my camera now. I REALLY hope I like this film as a want to support them throughyears of film sales. Ferrania has beat nearly impossible odds and deserve the love and support of the film community. Great video!!
Thanks for the comment Bob!
Such a great feel watching your new video during quarantine!
I hope it brings a moment of distraction.
I haven't had the dust issue with my p30 rolls.
Also, ferrania was planning on releasing the film in 120, but then the apocalypse happened...
Hopefully the 120 isn't too delayed.
@@AzrielKnight hopefully.
I really can't wait to buy some rolls and just shoot! I shot yesterday a roll of Ilford orthoplus 80, and with a fast lens, it's a great combination. Happy to hear your review on it!
Thanks for the comment!
Good review Azriel! Can't wait for it to come back in stock. I just hope that they will eventually offer 100ft rolls as I'm mostly a bulk loader for 35mm
fingers crossed!
I was very lucky to get two rolls of P30 about 2 weeks ago, it was immediately sold out again a fiew hours later here in Germany. I had the same luck with P30 Alpha. Didn´t have the time to try any of those, but I will take them with me once going on holiday in Italy is possible again. I really like your reviews, especially the way you talk and act, it´s very clear and easy to understand. No annoying hyping or mumbling. Very well done, keep it up!
Thanks for the compliments on my performance. To be fair, I'd be lost without a script. :)
@@AzrielKnight That´s quite obvious ;) But it´s a lot better this way than doing some uncoordinated babbling instead
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have bought 7 rolls of this to experiment.
That's awesome. Let me know how it goes!
@@AzrielKnight I will share some work if you like.
Currently I am holding a fair bit of a film stock at home - around 80 rolls of different films for production - ranging from Kodak Vision 3, Bregger Pancro, P30 and the standard films such as Portra, Tmax, and Delta. Plus a few more to try out and experiment with.
Thanks for the great review, this film is a looker!
On the black specs, try to check the negatives on light - looks more like damaged emulsion than dust. I had similar issue with Fomapan films which manifested itself this way in scans.
I agree it looks liek damaged emulsion is a couple shots, but I figured it was a wedged piece of dust. One frame had a black spec and what looks like, for lack of a better term, an emulsion indent.
According to the official guidelines rodinal is not recommended unless using a Semi-Stand. Did you develop using the official p30 best practice or some other way?
I developed using several methods. I used their best practices in my first review. I'd imagine they don't suggest Rodinal due to grain clumping and blown out highlights.
Reminds me alot of Rollei Retro 80's. The neg base on it was completely clear / transparent which was pretty crazy.
That's a film I'd like to get to know better.
Thanks for the comment :)
That is a bold initiative.
a film factory? for sure.
I've only shot one roll so far, but your observations aren't far off. I learned the hard way about backlit and high contrast, though in a couple of cases, it worked pretty well for me. I ended up semi-stand developing in Rodinal and liked the results. I've got one more roll, but haven't decided how I want to shoot it.
If you play in the studio, I think controlling the light would be fun. This is where I wish I knew models.
Hello Sir do you recommend using a tripod when shooting with P30?
Depends how much light there is, can't hurt though.
I hope the horizontal scratch issue from the alpha batch is gone. Ferrania confirmed that they derived from manufacturing (the scratches went through all frames including the bracket in between frames. I was able to exclude camera or development for this.).
I’ve got that on the roll I just developed. Fortunately didn’t show on the scans.
Also really struggled with exposure, the shadows made the negative transparent, yet highlights were blown.
Was never all that interested in B&W but P30 looks shockingly good.
The beauty of B&W comes in the darkroom. For me anyway.
I read somewhere in Populat Photography that cameras will default to ISO 100 if the film is not DX coded. Worth testing? IWould the slight oversexposure from 80 to 100 be noticable? My Pentax K-1000 would be a perfect candidate for P30, mannual ISO setting, etc
Good question, might depend on the camera.
@@AzrielKnight This might have been true, when DX coded camera first came out. This may not have continued beyond some poiont. Wouldn't be surprised if a newer camera would not work.
shooting a 80 iso film at 100 will underexpose it, not overexpose it.
You can use flash if ISO80 is too slow for you.
Good luck to Ferrania, but that sounds like quite a long list of provisos. I didn't realise the dust specks and differential drying was only on Ferrania film from your previous vlog but the film coming loose from the canister is more a major issue for me. I shoot with a lots of different cameras (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) and not being sure if the film has finished or rewinding because the 'draw' of the film advance lever or rewind crank varies from camera to camera is a sickener when you're in mid-flow. I've been in that situation before and had to go home with my tail between my legs to open the camera back. (Note to self - take changing bag with you, just in case).
That shop manikin at 6:10 is one of the scariest things I've ever seen.
I totally get it. I suppose the other suggestion is to shoot 34 frames a roll?
Yeah, but I'm a cheapskate and I'm always looking for that mythical 37th frame ;-)
Maby you captured a UFO.
