- Peanuts is one of my all-time favorite pieces of art on this planet... but does it make a good video game? That's what I'm graciously here to answer!
This was a crazy endeavor for me, but i'm really proud and happy it's finally done.
There are some little issues I still wasn't able to iron out, mainly with mic audio and stuff.
That will def be a focus in any future video I make like this.
Let me know what you think and spreading it around really REALLY helps.
I can't even pretend these kinds of videos will be common or more frequent, but I do enjoy making them when I can. I hope you enjoyed it too.
Special thanks to Clark Stacey from Wild Works for the interview!

I remember when I was a kid, my parents got me snoopy tennis for gameboy when I was six. I never knew what peanuts was, so I asked my parents and they showed me “race for your life Charlie Brown!” And I loved it. So… at least snoopy tennis did something worthwhile lol
I had Snoopy Tennis too. It was one of only two Peanuts games I ever owned. I actually did try out the password system to keep my progress, though I still didn't make too much progress. I unlocked Woodstock but none of the others.
Oddly enough the other Peanuts game I had was "Where's the Blanket, Charlie Brown?" which I was pleasantly surprised to see in this video even if she didn't touch on it.
Oh, man. You would not believe how obsessed I was with Snoopy's Flying Ace growing up. I recall staying up late at night dogfighting with other people online. That game really deserves a remaster, but that will probably won't ever happen because of licensing reasons, but one can dream.
I was surprised that you were able to get in touch with the CEO of Smart Bomb (WildWorks) and asked him about the game and it's prequel, I was always curious about how the game was developed, but this response fascinates me: "The original plan was an action-adventure game with Snoopy & Woodstock in vain with Rachet & Clank, etc." There's actually a trailer with this original vision in mind out on CZcams. I thought I dreamt the whole thing a long time ago before finding that video again! I hope more info on this drops one day, but I still had fun with the game we have now.
Awesome work on the video overall, this needs to blow up!
Me too I was loving this game growing up with this game and I'm sad to see that it's not playable anymore like anywhere and I wish this game had more attention since this game was awesome
I absolutely loved that one lmao
I've got to revisit it soon, I could never finish any of the missions lol
I made my snoopy plush a flying ace costume using red, brown, black, green felt and a snowman scarf I would love to show it but I can't
Snoopy's Magic Show was NEVER supposed to be a Snoopy game at all, it was meant to be an original puzzle game called Heart Attack, but Kemco demanded that the Peanuts license by shoehorned in, no matter what and I think the second Snoopy Gameboy game may have been planned as a Kid Klown game at one point.
If you want to see some very early 3D models of the Peanuts check out the photo slides made for the View-Master in 1966.
When I found images of those, they didn't look like digital 3d models to me. More so stop motion stuff. It's still pretty cool though.
@@ssf1389 That's what I meant. When I said "3D" I was specifically talking about them being in made in 3D space, not made on a computer. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
@@anactualmotherbear Ah, I see. It's alright. It still looks charming though. :)
Shout out to Mother 1 just putting in Marcy as a generic NPC sprite, and then having to redesign in when it finally released in english
I find it funny that you said that Snoopy's Grand Adventure had a Happy Meal budget, because I remember getting this game when I was younger because it had a coupon for it included with my Peanuts Movie Happy Meal toy. Good video, also.
30:57 I cried when I saw The Peanuts Movie. It felt like the perfect way to conclude the franchise... until Snoopy in Space came out.
Snoopy In Space is great
@@roguemutantbrain119 I never said it wasn't.
you as a peanuts character is adorable!!
Me imagining a Boku no Natsuyasumi style "childhood summer vacation sim" Peanuts game. They did a spinoff of that series with Crayon Chinchan, they could easily adapt it to Peanuts.
Oh my god thatd be genius. Peanuts is a relatively popular IP in japan still..... we gotta petition this
I read "Chinchan" as "Chris chan"
I too, read chinchan as Chris Chan
I quite love how you draw your character in the style of Peanuts! 💕✨
Snoopy's Cool Game reminds me of an insanely vivid dream I had years ago where I was playing a Peanuts adventure game (one so detailed I've actually got the 'walkthrough' written down somewhere)! First person perspective (you were presumably some unnamed kid in the neighbourhood) with fixed Myst-style images of rooms and locations, and the characters were scattered all over the place, with it being one of those games where each of them had one or two lines and it was about figuring out who needed which item you picked up in order to progress. From what I can remember, the main story involved Snoopy being poisoned (not fatally; he was just unwell for the duration of the game...the villain turned out to be Shermy, who was a twist villain annoyed at being sidelined by a dog) and one sequence involved Violet or Patty giving you a scrap of fabric which you could 'swap' for Linus' security blanket, letting you use the blanket and making him think Lucy or Sally (who was blocking a door) had destroyed it, so he'd go off to growl at them and thus distract them so you could get past.
I should try and find the notes I wrote down; some of it was pretty stupid dream fare, but there's some parts that could work!
I like the wobbly effect on your character portrait
Snoopy's Concert is such a weird novelty. I absolutely love how that game looks and sounds, especially for a SNES game!
I actually played through "Where's is the blanket. Charlie Brown?" on a discord stream.
I felt more like your run in the mill point and click adventure game with generic problem solving minigames rather than a full on educational game.
The only REAL educational part was probably that one game where you have to do basic math but other than that, I don't recall any other kind of educational aspects.
I actually played this all the time when I was younger because it was literally my family's ONLY computer game that wasn't pre-installed or a flash game. Despite the criticism, I still think it's a charming game, although that might just be my nostalgia talking.
I really like the subtle “wiggle” of the lineart on your character. It’s got a neat charm to it, and adds just enough so that it’s not just sitting still (:
Also, the Clark Stacey conversation kinda hurts my heart after the whole Fer.al fiasco (for those who don’t know, WildWorks developed Fer.al, which was basically a more mature successor to their MMORPG Animal Jam, for about two years, and revealed around the end of 2021 that they were using it as the skeleton for their new NFT game, Cinder. This is a pretty oversimplified version of events, more stuff happened, but it was a huge letdown and caused much uproar)
damn
@@thejester4594 Yep. My late 2021 was definitely overcast by that stuff unfolding. Tough times
I agree that Peanuts lends itself well to point and click games. Imagine a Scummvm type of game. I’d play it.
where’s my blanket charlie brown was legit my favorite game to play as a kid, I could never finish though cause i’d get stuck at the grocery store chase
I was a kid in the 70s and a teen in the 80s, and I thank God for that. I had no idea any of these existed. Thank you.
I love peanuts.
Really glad you talked about that cancelled baseball game. Remember feeling so let down when I saw the back of that manual for SVRB and getting excited, only to look up the game and see it got cancelled. Such a shame that the Peanuts equivalent of Mario Super Sluggers will never see the light of day (Though there is always the possibility that it would have been bad anyway like how can you have 70 different peanuts if half the roster isn't made up of Woodstock birds with different names?)
Kinda weird how the most obvious Peanuts game is the one that doesn’t get made. I have to think in an alternate universe there’s a whole series of Peanuts baseball games.
To be completely honest with you, there is a HUGE, and I mean HUGE roster of Peanuts characters from the comics. To talk about them all in one comment would take a lot of reading time, but there would be more than 35 Woodstock birds with different names, heck, even talking about Snoopy's relatives would be just barely scratching the surface...
@@pokepress I agree with this too!!
Imagine if they had Peanuts Baseball tournaments and Charlotte Braun was basically the game's Meta Knight... :P
After hearing the "70 characters" bit I tried to name as many as I could and write them down, but even including the couple I forgot there are only around 25 UNIQUE characters. So the other characters are probably just characters in different outfits, like Snoopy's flying ace outfit, outfits based on Charlie Brown Christmas or Great Pumpkin, etc.
"The golden age was the 60's-70's." Blasphemy. It was firing on all cylinders all the way through. Alot of the later strips are really funny same with the 50's strips.
True! I meant more of its "financial" and iconic golden age. A lot of its most famous moments and ideas stemmed from the 60s strips!
@@paperdawn True
I think she just meant in terms of popularity, not quality
5:13 Kemco was forced to change the licence since Capcom had exclusive rights to the Disney IPs on Nintendo systems so Kemco used Snoopy and Bugs Bunny as replacements
I used to play "Get Ready For School, Charlie Brown!" a lot as a kid. It was a game on the PC that taught spelling, and I loved the variations of spelling games it had as well as the animated story book aspect where you clicked on various things to see what they did. I also loved the dictionary section where it used various classic Peanuts comic strips and images as examples to describer words, and one of the kids would sometimes comment on what was going on in the picture. Another computer game I used to play a lot as a kid was Camp Snoopy which was a collection of camp themed activity games you played with different kids. My favorite was Lucy's game where you made food to serve to the other kids and you chose what ingredients to add. The funniest part was how after you played a few rounds, you had the option to mix in ingredients from the wrong food category, and the kid you were serving would make comments on how gross it was. I know I had two Peanuts DOS games during my early childhood, but I barely remember them.
15:04 I think they are carrying from the previous line, like "Spatial Awareness" and "Social Awareness" but this reads funny, thanks for pointing that out.
Oh wow youre right! Didny even notice. Maybe i need this game more than I gave it credit for lol
You did such a good job with your research and editing, I liked this a lot! It was really nice to see Snoopy vs the Red Baron again, I loved it growing up.
yup this video is gonna blow up
Aged rather poorly

Aged rather even poorlier
9 months later and there are still less that 10k views, lol.
This aged SO porly that a nine months later and still doesn't have 1000 likes
Just wanna say how much I appreciate your thorough research and dedication here, as a Peanuts fan and obscure niche weird licensed video games fan. You really get both the heart and soul of Peanuts, while also not wearing too much of a 'old games can do no wrong/no right' nostalgia or snark glasses.
Also, love your avatar , ignore the morons who wanna label you or mock you for whatever reason. You can be a talking three headed water buffalo for all we should care, and whether you are a boy, girl, or something in-between (and yes I know you aren't trans, that just only further bears my point) we should not as internet content viewers have any concern about that. This is just light hearted, fun, passive entertainment and people really need to relax and stop deeply worrying and critiqing so much about depictions of fictional characters and what trivial bearings they have on their lives.
This is one of your best videos, awesome job!
I remember really enjoying the level in Poptropica based on the Great Pumpkin back in the day. Pretty sure it's not available in the current version of the game though.
You have such a way of illustrating emotion that really captivates me! I’ve never seen such an expressive png-tuber character, let alone one that doesn’t just default to the dreamworks stare. Great job and I hope you continue honing your craft and making fun videos like these!
I'm now pretty curious about the over 70 characters in the cancelled Charlie Brown baseball game. Like was it going to be exclusively characters from the comics because I'm not sure if Peanuts have enough characters to reach over 70. Maybe the original characters from the specials and movies would have been playable too.
A nice chill video I've been looking forward to!
This was very charming. Thanks for taking the time to make these! I actually feel bad I slept on the Red Baron game. It actually looked charming and the SNES one looks amazing!
Peanuts didn't end because of Shultz' death. The last strip released was announcing his retirement. He died the day before the strip was published if I remember correctly which sucks because he never got to enjoy the retirement he deserved.
He could have retired any time he wanted. He didn't want to because he genuinely liked making Peanuts comic strips. Schulz lived a relatively better life than the average person who wastes half their life on a job they hate.
Wow, this is incredible. I loved Snoopy vs. The Red Baron as a child and that interview was a wonderful surprise.
I’m so glad you talked about Red Baron and Flying Ace!! They’re some of my favorites
6:57 - Ah.. yes. The best song i've ever heard in my 80's.
A instant subscribe. Very well put together video, especially for a channel of this size, and the interview segment was a exciting surprise.
As someone who got really into Peanuts with the 2015 movie, a video like this was fun. Can't wait to see more of your work
This is a lovely video and I'm glad I came across your channel! Gosh I wish I had an SNES mouse...
Also your drawings are cute and I love them!!
I love how perfectly you recreated the Peanuts art style
Glad someone talked about Snoopy The Red Baron
I remember getting it from my library for my ps2 and really enjoying it
Thanks for the vid great job
Good topic for a video essay. I like the Peanuts games. I was worried when you said you weren't going to cover all of them, but then I was pleasantly surprised to see the old ancient games being covered. I love those two Atari games, presentation-wise. I love Snoopy's Silly Sports presentation-wise. Sure, they're not the best when it comes to gameplay. I have total fun with the Super Famicom game though. It's just a great little toy.
I had Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular when I was a kid. It's not the best
game but I think the graphics are pretty good. I prefer 2D graphics though and
I've never liked the change to 3D. Actually I still have the game but it's just collecting
dust in a box. The only other Peanuts game I have is the 3DS one. I liked that one and
when I was babysitting last year during the summer, took it with me to introduce to the
kids. They both liked it and they were 7 and 9. The graphics in that game are really good.
Edit: To be fair, computers weren't very common in the 80's. I didn't see my first computer
until 1987 in school and my parents didn't own one until 1993.
10:40 I mean, most Sega Pico games regardless of franchise are Activity Centers of minigame collections, so even without looking up a video I think I know exactly what it would be like.
15:03 This isn't a mistake or a misprint. It says Spatial Awareness at the top and Social Awareness at the bottom. It's not just the word Awareness twice.
this is a great video that i rewatch often enough
I just found this. I love this video and I love your channel! And peanuts is also one of my favorite franchises ever :]
This was very good. I liked how this turned out :)
loved this video so much! always been a big fan of the peanuts but never heard of the games
This was a pretty fun video. I love Peanuts and especially Snoopy. I used to play Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular all the time back in the day. The fact that it was a game where they just pasted some Peanuts characters onto it would explain a lot, but it was one of my first video games on the NES. It probably hasn't aged too well, but seeing those mini games and Snoopy's facial expressions still felt like such a nice bit of nostalgia for me. I remember being excited for the video game based on the Peanuts movie from 2015. I've wanted more Peanuts video games and it looked pretty neat. I think I only got through a couple of the levels before giving up on it. It either wasn't clear to me or I just got bored with it, which is a shame.
I only remember one of the Peanuts learning games. It was Yearn 2 Learn. I can still remember the states puzzle game since that's often how I picture different states and I think there was a portion with Snoopy as the WWI Flying Ace. I remember playing it pretty often when I was little too, but I can understand not having much to say for these learning games.
Great Video. You can tell a lot of work into it!
I really enjoyed this video! I had honestly never heard of any of these games until this video so I loved hearing you talk about all of them.
also 30:20 this is Happiness is a Warm Blanket Charlie Brown erasure and I'm very upset
I love retrospects on random stuff like this.
Holy hell I did not expect that voice
This was a fun video and I can understand how long you were making this, but a very cool retrospective. I wouldn't have guessed Peanuts games were that far back in gaming history let alone so many! Sadly I haven't played any but I've passed a glance at Grand Adventure in a Target before. And I WANT the Snoopy car in Hot Wheels Unleashed to play but, loot boxes exist, so I can't just save up points and choose it deliberately. Still fun seeing it as an opponent on the track. And I do own the real model car but I digress.
I was always skeptical about the Peanuts Movie in 2015 other than the animation style so I'll watch it on your recommendation when I can :) nice to see you cover a franchise that influences you so much.
The peanuts had ViDEO GAMES!? Since when?
Today is December 14th, 2022, and I don't know why this got reccomended but it did
Pre-pre Beethoven day gift!
never would of thought there were this many games 😭
Snoopy Concert is such a hidden gem, I love it
Even Snoopy Flying Ace on the Xbox is a big hidden gem, so many memories I used to make compared to other games I've played.
this was such a wonderful video :+) the talksprites are so cute!! i really wanna play snoopy concert now it looks like something out of a dream
btw you get TWO comments actually. hashtag algorithm
That intro alone makes me wanna see a video of your collection :)
I love the tone of this video haha, good stuff man!
At 17:18 when he said “a series that’s usually this” I got an ad for street fighter duel with six bearded guys doing street fighter main theme a capella
I like the fact that you change the avatar for your vieo theme, it's really cute
I remember the 360 Arcade game, it was a good few months of fun before the server pop went down. As someone who played Crimson Skies back in the day, it brought nostalgia for both an older game and Peanuts.
This is my first video and was blindsided hearing a guy's voice come out of the very obviously female avatar.
i got snoopy's grand adventure as a present in high school. good times
The peanuts movie video game was like a fever dream
Honestly, with every video I see about Peanuts the more I love the series, even its downfalls and resurgence into the zeitgeist.
I remember that Snoopy game as if it came out in 2020, but it came out in 2015?! Good god where did the time go?
I surprisingly have roms for those two other peanuts DS games you mentioned! I had to dig pretty deep into somewhat sketchy websites so I could play them on my modded dsi, modded 3ds, and some emulation for when I want to record gameplay footage... You're right about the games being about dog breed learning respectively from what I've played.
Your voice is very relaxing to listen to. Also I appreciate how you genuinely get and understand video game culture and you portray that perfectly. You clearly put a lot of work into this video going so far to reach out to someone who worked on one of these games. Really great content.
Thank you for doing this video
Wow this is such a high quality video. I hope it blows up soon.
The night panels in the comics always looked so beautiful, like the one with snoopy on the left at 0:43.
I’m in a peanuts play as Charlie Brown and I have seen so much more peanuts stuff than usual. I think now that I’m more conscious of the peanuts and that’s why I’m noticing it more though.
I enjoyed this, and though I would have liked to see you touch on some games more, I understand region barriers.
I randomly thought to look up what Peanuts games existed after remembering that Mother / Earthbound was inspired by the series.
The one where snoopy looks for the blanket was one of the earliest video games I've ever played.
My own introduction to Peanuts was through a kid magazine that compiled several different comics, Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes included.
And Peanuts was translated simply as "Snoopy and his friends". Those were fun.
I later got the Red Baron game, but I think I couldn't wrap my head around the controls at the time and the language barrier surely didn't help. xD Overall I'm surprised to see someone still talking about these games nowadays and the video was super interesting. I'm amazed that you even managed to talk to the devs.
Honestly, I LOVED the 2017 peanuts movie game when I was younger... It was my first game that I ever got a platinum on ps4!
I wanted the Donkey Kong Game& Watch in 82 or 83 . It was sold out and buddy tried to sell me the Snoppy one . I waited and got the Donkey Kong ,the original .
1:39 Man I remember growing up with this one in my old computer in the 00s, good memories
I couldn't get enough of Snoopy's Silly Sport's Spectacular when I was a child. I think it was the first thing I ever saw Snoopy in. I am old.
Don't be sassin' Pac Man 2.
Has the CZcams algorithm gotten better for anyone else? I've found dozens of small channels now, love the avatar
I loved Snoopy vs the Red Baron as a kid. A few years ago I got lucky on eBay and found someone selling a promo code for Snoopy Flying Ace, so I was able to play that as well.
I loved the art direction of Snoopy Flying Ace but the single-player experience for was quite short to be honest with only a few missions. I think there’s a promo video with some clips of the original combat sections on CZcams somewhere. Wish I could’ve been around for the XBLA multiplayer because it looks like a good time
Amazing video! I remember playing Snoopy's Grand Adventure when it first came out but holy sHIT i do not remember it looking that bad. I am a bit biased towards the game though because as a kid obsessed with Peanuts, I made some good memories with the game. In retrospect it wasn't very good though lol
I love the art style in this video
as a huge fan of snoopy vs the red baron, i always wondered what happened to the on-foot action sequence shown in one of the first trailers for snoopy flying ace- i never got a 360 when i was younger, but a couple years back i got emulation working and was super bummed when i realized it didn't exist ingame. shame nobody wanted to fund it, but hey!! what we got is still pretty good :] the music's still a BIG highlight to me, with 'big guns at l'barrage' and 'reconnaissance in the city of lights' being two favorites
is it weird that I compare watching CZcams and other things on the internet to watching ants in an ant farm
26:42 man that would have been an insanely fun game if it actually came to fruition. IDK how they would make a villain but still would be a fun game to play in theory.
Very glad CZcams recommended me this channel❤
Why are you happy about not being a kid in the 70's? It was the best time to be a kid.
If I was a child in the 70s id be much older and I do not want to be much older.
I think the only one I've played is the minigame collection for the NES. I remember renting it for a sleepover I was going to have with other boys, and thought it would be great to play for pass the controller multiplay. Of course I was disappointed, but that was the One Game I had access to that weekend for the month, so I made sure to play it a lot.
The song you showcased for the example of Snoopy Concert has a striking similarity to the boss’s nova song “Desafinado” by João Gilberto, even having the same motif in a section.
This was great! In not even really a Peanuts fan but you made it super interesting. Also, your avatar is super cute 💜
the Red Baron game was mah childhood 😊
Snoopy vs the red Baron is a classic
