    If you had any functioning government in London or the UK you would not have this problem. The problem is the mayor of London.

    • @sugarsaint
      @sugarsaint Před 9 měsíci +2

      The mayor? More like decades of conservative "austerity" eBay and the UK law.
      Car crime is a high reward low repercussion crime here in the UK. We don't have GTA with multi year sentencing, as they do in the US. Even there its still prevalent but here it's literally seen as inefficient/irrelevant use of police time and left to the insurance company to clean up.
      There are videos of recordings were high end tracker company locate stolen cars and the police attend after being called to assist and drive off after arrival or don't even turn up in the first place - literally leaving the tracker engineer to deal with a den full of scummy vermin on his own if he dare.
      And that's with the tooling informing the police that a £50, 70, £90k registered stolen vehicle is RIGHT THERE behind those gates

    Insurance for my 2016 Discovery Sport in Newcastle increased by 40+% this year - premium due now. As you rightly say, value has plummeted in the past six months or so. Shopping around for quotes on comparison sites showed my renewal price from present insurers to be very competitive. Have to suck it up I guess🤷🏻‍♂

    I’ve commented a few times on your posts, insurance is the reason I’m giving up my SC RRS and going to the Metro Disco 5, a hard choice but for no reason my premium rose 140% in two years, it’s the name end of, having a Land Rover name on the bonnet is saving me plenty! And such a good car too!

    I’ve got until next June for my new quote and I’m dreading it on my RR.
    The price of mine has dropped dramatically in the last few months, literally thousands.
    On top of all the thefts, I get the feeling it’s all a master plan to get rid of Range/Land Rovers off the road as they see them as gas guzzling cars that are bad for the planet.
    Just wouldn’t know what to get next as I love my Range Rover.

    That insurance is a bargain if you ask me these days lol. They want £1500 to insure a 2010 L322 worth 1/5th of the price of this in a nice area nowhere near London for me. Absolutely wild, 50% more than a year ago. More than my first car (which was not a micro hatchback with 5bhp).

    Just sold my Discovery 5 2ltr and was offered and took 6k less than 6 months ago. Thankfully I had 3 years trouble free motoring other than battery earth stud issue which was fixed by Land Rover assist.
    Your defender 90 still looks amazing and I would keep it if feasible. Good video as usual 👍
    I am moving away from Land Rover and just ordered a new VW California ocean which hold their value amazingly and are superb as recently hired one. Would suit you very well and fit all your kite surfing gear in no problem.

    My mate had his range rover keyless thefted from outside his house. Had it all on CCTV. Police not interested. He found his steering wheel with the no doubt the same one tiny white paint stain on ebay a few weeks later, they had loads of bits of the same car listed. contacted seller 200 miles away, contacted police with address, nothing. Police could not be bothered.
    P.s. few weeks later after buying another range rover, he messaged the ebay seller to see if he could buy his still listed old pop out side steps back, seller blocked him from his ebay shop.

      I had my van broken into a few years ago, stupidly id forgot my wallet in it that night (it was out of sight so not the reason they broke in) , they took my bank and credit card, used it at a shell garage on the a20, took trains on the underground and bought food on old kent road. ALL those places have cctv that would have their face easily in view, police didnt pursue it at all.
      Fortunately i had left all my tools on the job that day (which i never do for fear of them being stolen)so i had no tools to be taken.

    Interestingly, I have just sold my old 250k 1998 300tdi defender and purchased a low miles PUMA XS defender 90. Despite the new defender being worth many times my old one, the insurance is only £160 more PA. I was dreading getting it insured but it hasn't been to bad for me. It is even more surprising considering I am only 25. Maybe next year things will change for the worse tho, who knows.

So I decided to phone them, and after a conversation with two people there, I got them down to £820 with the same company and same cover, which is for use in business as a gardener . It’s absolutely madness to think that owners of these cars rely solely on electrics to keep their cars safe when all they need to deter thieves are some good old fashion locks like a disk lock to cover the steering wheel, or a clutch claw to lock over the pedals, or even a wheel clamp.
    Yes, if a thief is really persistent, they could just lift your car into a low loader, but it’s all about visual deterrents.

    I have just had my insurance renewal from RAC and it has gone up by 70% after several years of relatively small increases. No it is not a Land Rover, it's a 2 litre saloon, nothing special. No claims, live in a low risk area, mileage less than 10000 per year. No dice from the RAC, they say they have shopped around all the twelve companies on their panel and that is the best price they can offer. Currently sourcing alternative quotes, but looks like major hikes in car insurance are being implemented across the board. Don't think it has much to do with Land Rovers, although all more expensive and desirable cars are going to suffer even more. Don't know of any good reasons why there seems to be such a massive across the board price increase right now, and although inflation will be hitting parts and labour prices, that alone would not seem to justify the increased premiums.

  • @brianhoskins1979
    @brianhoskins1979 Před 11 měsíci +1

    5:17 yes, you absolutely _could_ make your own faraday cage (pouch). A faraday cage is not a complicated thing. Ever wondered how your microwave is able to have a window in it that you can just peer into? How come your head doesn't get cooked? Well, if you look more carefully you'll see that inside the glass is a metal cage. This is a faraday cage and it prevents leakage of the microwave outside of the viewing glass. What about the gaps in the cage? Well, the gaps have to be smaller than the wavelength of RF that you're trying to shield. In the case of the microwave, the wavelength is larger than the gaps in the cage inside the window. And this prevents the microwave from cooking you when you look through the window.
    So a faraday cage is nothing more than a conductive shield. It can have gaps in it if you want it to be transparent, provided the gaps are smaller than the wavelength you are trying to shield. It doesn't need to have any gaps at all. So a tin can would work. But you do need a way to seal it up properly, otherwise RF could leak through the gaps (if the gaps are large enough).
    If you have ever bought computer parts, you will often find that they come in a dark grey bag. These are anti-static bags. And they work because the bag is conductive. This has the side-effect that the bags make for good faraday cages. Provided, of course, that you seal them. But yes, any metalic (conductive) container that is sealed will work as a faraday cage.

We have steering lock, electric gates and cctv but delighted to see it see each morning on my driveway. Rarely take it into central London and now never leave it with a airport parking service. Constantly worrying when it will be stolen, had 5 Range Rovers over the last 20 years, last was a 2018 full-size autobiography which cost £1000 per to insure. NFU refused me , but one of my friends locally was insured with them and he had his stolen! Tried looking at other cars but they are very plastic once your used to a RR. I have also ordered the p300e Discovery sports done an insurance check and it's 4k. I was going to cancel my order but Landover has asked me to hold fire more for their own benefit than mine lol. Apparently they have relaunched Landover insurance.. not sure what difference that's going to make. I've been speaking with a few different insurance companies as I categorically refuse to pay that much for insurance. The feedback I've been given is that Landover needs to do more to stop their cars from being stolen.

    I suspect insurance has gone up due to the economic crisis rather than due to LR theft, albeit LR insurance has gone up even more due to the aforementioned point. For the last 10 years and a year or two after passing, I’ve paid £600-700 in a high insurance category postcode. Last year it went up almost 50% and I’ve heard several similar stories. I believe investment firms throw a lot of their client’s money into insurance as it’s a market that almost always makes a profit. It is supported by law and statistics to never loose out in the business world. Firms have upped their prices to match the inflation that has happened around the world since Covid 19, ultimately keeping their lenders happy.

I own a evoque and it went up from £550 to £880 but also other people on local Facebook forums I claiming increases on box standard cars also. Another thing not just LR/RR easy to break into but any keyless entry vehicles its just more people want to steal RR/LR and now can apparently buy a gadget that also get into cars. Like lot of things it’s a scam. If you live in London yes I can understand a price hike but if you live 400 miles away in a low crime rate then it shouldn’t have gone up that much. I was quoted £5000 for a RR Evoque which is totally REDICULOUS. But it’s insurers seeing a chance to hike prices way up knowing drivers have little chance apart from selling the car, but I can sadly see lots of drivers just not insuring their cars especially if they are careful drivers. Yes they might get caught but the penalty for driving without proper cover is minimal compared to the price hikes

    Grim reality.. my friend had his Land Rover stolen last Wednesday night. Fitted with Thatcham 1 alarm and Thatcham steering wheel lock. Thieves also overrode electric security gates to drive it away.

    You said the Range Rovers were the second most stolen cars. What was the first ? And do the people of the most stolen cars also see there premiums sky rocketing ?

    • @thedoctorsgarage
      @thedoctorsgarage  Před 11 měsíci

      I’m actually not sure what the most stolen is in the UK? I suppose if more are stolen the insurance sees it as a worse bet from their perspective so increase the premium to cover their more likely loss

    Had to get rid of my Disco 4 which last year cost me £675 in insurance, this year I was quoted £1875.
    I have to admit I have turned 70 in age just recently, so I was wondering if this was a reason for the increase.Well no, as I enquired as to how much a 160 mph Ftype would cost me today and I was told £685 !!!
    Is this just a LR thing regardless of age??

    I recently changed my car from an Audi A8 v8 to a Range Rover Evoque. My insurance tripled,!! But this is just insurance companies jumping on the Band wagon and putting premiums up . Don’t be fooled re how many stolen etc it’s just an excuse!! PS. I live in Ulster where car theft is low so why am I allegedly paying a premium for London drivers??? Exactly it’s a nonsense
