I rode the Greyhound across the country and had recently had gallbladder surgery. I had to take vicodin for pain and while I was sitting in the back row of the bus this woman said she would give me 50 bucks for a pill. I said no I need them for pain. Its my prescription. She said she would blow me right there if I gave her a pill. I never sat in the back of the bus again and now always sit up front close to the driver. Too many freaks and crazies in the back.

My favorite travel snack-- a ziploc bag full with a mix of M&Ms and cashew nuts! Other travel things: Sometimes my feet get cold, so I'll carry an extra pair of socks so I can wear double socks if needed. A small flashlight can be a lifesaver. A small pack of baby wipes is so useful to have for cleaning up, and keeping my hands clean. Some plastic grocery bags for trash, to wrap clothes and extra shoes in. A small folding umbrella. A rain poncho. Hand sanitizer, and a small can of Lysol spray to disinfect toilet seats before you sit on them. A sun hat, and sunglasses. ALWAYS carry water! , and something that you can refill with water when it's empty.

Took my first greyhound trip from Tampa to New Jersey (27hrs), to say the least I was excited to take the trip back from New Jersey to Tampa due to how effortless and smooth my trip was🤗 apart from 90% of the passengers being persons of “unsound” mind the drivers were friendly and made the journey less hectic and they were helpful, I look forward to another ride with greyhound 🙏🏽 helpful tip: ALWAYS sit in the front, it’s much more peaceful and it’s where the civilization is🤷🏽‍♀️

Essential for flights or bus trips are wipes in my bag, even to the store. I take wipes, put them in a ziplock bag and add alcohol to soak the wipes. That way, I can wipe toilet seats, handles, arm rests, trays, seatbelt locks, buggy handles, etc.. You hit the nail on the head with all of your advice. Thank you.

Sometimes you get separated from your luggage, but it's tagged and will be at your final destination. I went from NY to LA and back, i was on 3 different buses each way. Everyday things keep with you, backpacks are great. A small shaving/oral care carry-all is a must.

I also take 2 plastic shopping bags with me and use them for trash bags while riding the bus. I put in wrappers from snacks. single serving condiment wrappers, etc. Also my backpack I got while helping out with a homeless ministry. It ended up 2 free ones and the one was filled with travel size toiletries. Made things easier on my end,

Also, the suggestion about water bottles & snacks....Do it! Whenever I travel, I always have have something for hydration & to snack on.
Also, some backpacks have a hydration pack built into the bag. These Invariably have a tube that comes from the hydration bag. (Many referred to as 'Camelbacks') Do these bags cost more, absolutely. Oftentimes these bags *do* cost more but last forever due to the quality. Check your local Army/Navy Store or type Hiking backpack in Facebook Marketplace or craigslist. Many have multiple pockets and zippers to access the back, middle, and sometimes even the bottom of your backpack.

Another thing i would recommend though you don't need to take with you is a luggage scale. You can buy them on ebay for a cheap one for $5. That way you can weigh your luggage so you don't go over greyhounds weight limit. Mine has lasted for years and the replacement batteries can be bought at walmart. (mine uses a watch type battery) If you travel yearly or more it pays for itself because airlines charge wayyyy more for overage fees than greyhound so knowing is always important

Well my travels in the fall as I headed from Chicago to Miami. Well November of course I'm going to be dressed for winter in Chicago. And of course the AC won't be on. Granted when I get down into Florida the tempature is getting warmer and usually around Orlando the AC gets put on. As so bus cooling off. I use my heavy winter jacket as a blanket. I'm carrying it off the bus in South Florida by then. I mean obviously you'll need a winter jacket in Chicago in November. Also if you're heading the opisit direction put your winter jacket in your carry on back pack. Ya might be 80 degrees in Florida but remember you're going north so unless it's July or August it's not going to be 80 degrees in Chicago or New York or ware ever you're going. So think about that. You're getting on a bus to a colder part of the country.. Tell me you saw that happening. I know hey its Chicago it's the middle of November go figure it's 25 degrees out here.. ya I'm going home now

for portable chargers, my 7.99 walmart one died halfway through my trip and my friend's lasted her the entire trip. my advice is to look at the reviews and invest in a good brand/a good quality portable charger, it's worth the money to not be stuck without a phone when you're so far from home. the cheap ones are fine, but aren't always the most reliable pieces of tech. (edit: also be VERY careful w/pepper spray, for your own safety from getting accidentally sprayed by yourself AND because greyhound lists it as an item that's not allowed in your carry on but you can put it in your checked bag)
