    • @Ai-yahUdingus

      It's seriously all thanks to her family. I saw an interview of theirs and they are so down to earth and wise. They refuse to touch any of the money their dauther's made from diving and have put it into an account for her, and they refuse all commerical sponsorships because they don't want to turn her into a money-making commodity.
      I know that Quan said in an interview at the Tokyo olympics that she dives in order to pay for her mother's medical care and it's all very tragic, but I don't think that's the whole story. Like, first of all, she was 14 at the time and in other post-dive interviews since we see that she is really awkward when it comes to answering questions on the fly (I recall one journalist asking how she feels after winning and Quan looking at her like "what do you mean how do I feel? I just won didn't I?" and her synchro partner answering for her after the akward pause). So her talking about her mother's injury as inspiration for diving isn't a lie, but it was also a 14-year-old grasping for anything to say at all at the press conference of her very first international competition. Also, her mother's car accident was 4 years prior to that interview, and, again, her family refuses to touch the money she's made. Her mom was fine by that point and win or lose, she was getting paid a lot just for going to the olympics (with a nice bonus for winning, of course) so it's not like there was pressure in that sense.
      In summary, Quan hongchan is able to compete without falling to pressure because she has a great support system. She just dives the best she can and focus on nothing else because she knows that win or lose, nothing crucial is on the line.

QHC is from a really poor background and didn't get that much resources until a few years ago, so technically she is younger and got less professional training; however, she can still level up with CYX. She is INCREDIBLE. The pity of the diving competition is that (to be brutally honest), the quality would be so much higher overall if an unlimited number of Chinese athletes were able to go through to the finals. Obviously I know that is not going to happen but I would urge people to watch the Chinese National Competitions and see the standard there which is levels above what we get in the Olympic Games finals. This is meant as no slight to the girls who did compete but the Chinese athletes, even those who did not make the Games, are levels above those girls.

    • @cfwin1776
      @cfwin1776 Před měsícem +2

      I don’t agree to allow more Chinese to crowd out athletes from other nations. I would like to see higher quality dives from other countries. No competition, no fun. For China’s own interests to keep diving interesting, they should invite athletes from other countries to train with them.

      nah~~ That defeats the spirit and purpose of Olympics. The olympics is about giving top athletes from all over the world the chance to unite and compete at the world's biggest stage, no matter where you come from or what your background is. If there aren't any limits to the number of athletes, then we'll mostly only see USA/Aust in the pools, US/Jamaica on the track, and China on weightlifting etc. The overall medal tally would be seriously skewed too. It's pointless then.

      You don’t understand the premise … in the UK 🇬🇧 one doesn’t have to pay for medical care .. nevertheless I am fairly certain that if word got out that a child was seeking to do something for their sick parent .. there would be charities, institutions or a church that will support the child with medical expenses.
      By now with all its billions and pumping money in global initiatives.. I find it hard to believe that China 🇨🇳 can’t offer to do that much for its children especially world class athletes like Quan.
      Also how can you compare global power house China 🇨🇳 with post-soviet Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 ??
      No 1st world country should have a story that it’s top athletes are seeking to use sport to pay for their family members medical expenses.

      You are completely right and I have seen it lines of people seeking free medical care in USA… it shouldn’t be the case for global powerhouses.. even if the state can’t afford .. but what I am talking about is your top athletes can you imagine Suni or Simone get into gymnastics or Michael Phelp into swimming to pay medical bills for family members..??
