The wonderful Igboland, Africa, traditional masquerade (Agaba masquerade). 2023.

In the olden days in Igboland, Africa, masquerade was used for two main purposes viz; For peace-making and for entertainment.
Among the masquerades used for entertainment is the great agaba masquerade. The name agaba in Igbo language means strong, gallant and wonderful.
The agaba entertains people at funeral ceremonies, traditional festivals, etc.
The agaba makes use of two cutlasses. One wooden and one iron. It uses the wooden cutlass to entertain people.
The essence of the iron cutlass is in case of trouble. If trouble arises in any occasion, the agaba will bring out the iron cultlass and fight.
However, it rarely and hardly brings out the iron cutlass but fastens it to its waist to let trouble-makers know that the agaba is not afraid and always ready to defend itself.
Women don't follow the agaba masquerade. Only gallant men follow it. The agaba masquerade does not attend the funeral of a woman, no matter who.
