At 14 I was running a JD 95 combine w/o cab but had a sun shade in some 55 bu wheat cutting with a 14' header.. Never dreamed of auto steer or eating snacks drinking soda pops while operating. Did have a water jug, and a deep tan.
Times are definitely different from back then but I have a lot of respect for the people back then that got here today.
I started on a Massey 90 Special at 12. I would cut a hopper while the truck unloaded in the barn.
I rent all my irrigated crops to our son. I farm a half section that he did not want. It did not rain after October to May so I will be lucky to make 15 bu/ac. Just a 2" rain the end of April and it would be like 60 bu.
JD 55 at 8 still remember we got a new 6600 with cab and first time putting the cutting head into crop I started squinting my eyes in anticipation of the dust & chaff hitting me in the face 😂.. life was never the same after that day..
This is by far one of the best videos you have put out. You are such an easy going, very mature and knowledgeable person and the best part of this video was taking your cousin along and just turning her loose with the combine. You could see the enjoyments she was having.....
City kids try to drive a $500 Honda when they're 16. Country kids are driving $1,000,000 combines when they reach 14. 😂

Out of all the farming jobs I did I loved running myJD9500 in corn with 6 row head.

I was 12 when we got out first johndeer s780 combines I started running those solo after I finished my first 500 acres now i am 15 and run combine every season

Dad had a #91 IH combine with a 2-40" corn head and small platform...maybe 8' or 9' wide. I'd dream about operating it and in the late 70's, we grew some wheat so my dream was going to be a reality. I drove it for a couple of hours, I was in my mid to late teens. Man, I was the king of combine!!

If you drop the cob deflector it doesn't let any chaff get into the chopper.
Teach them youngins to drive old school, without autosteer then onto the tech
Holy smokes. Where in texas are you? That is making crazy bushels!! We thought 50 bushels was great on our farms. It would be nice if you told us what town youre in.
