Synopsis:
Vishwanath (Vijaykumar) has two sons, Gautam (Prabhu Ganeshan) and Ashok (Karthik Muthuraman), who are step-brothers who hate each other and often get into fights. But later two of them are forced to join hands in order to protect their father from a mafia.

It provokes thoughts about the abandoned families and every scene in the movie is a master piece
Karthik - No words to describe his Charm. He is the most Charming Tamil actor ever. What a grace. No wonder, he had a great female fan following that time
Parbhu Ganesan - This should be one of his best acting performances. He literally defined the manners of a high profile Police officer in a different dimension
Amala and Nirosha very well complimented the movie

Illayaraja nailed it with the BGM and the songs were ahead of its time
Kudos to Mani Rathinam. Though people talk about his Nayagan, Roja, Thalapathy, Agni Natchathiram will still remain as his most Stylish movie

Good old days, when you go for that once in a while special film and you get treated with fun filled 2.5 hours with extraordinary music(100% Ilayaraja guarantee), and the whole experience stay your memory for ever... the BGM has so much grammar - like different theme when Prabhu/Karthik meet, heroes meet their love, two mothers meet, brother sister meet, and the last scene!!!. PC Srimans work is excellent even todays technical standards.

If it were a hollywood movie and nominated for oscars hypothetically . Karthik would be nominated for Best Actor and Prabhu would be for Best supporting actor. Movie totally travels on Ashok's character with Prabhu supporting his cause.

Was reading the book on "Conversations with Mani Ratham", sir gives great insights of this movie. And can you believe it that this movie and Nayakan was made at the same time, shootings were just days away from each other. Nayakan was finished and released before Agni. I would recommend the book for any Mani sir's fan.
Coming to this movie, What a stylish one! Karthik at his best class. Prabhu correctly underplays. Superb music and PC at his best!
I watched this movie in the late 80s when i was just a few yrs old and it became one of my favorite movies..the picturisation of the times and the middle class life by Mr. Maniratnam is so realistic..I'll forever be a fan of Karthik's acting in this movie..its one of the best albums composed my Mr. Ilayaraja and the BGM couldn't have been better..this movie will always remain evergreen!!!
