    VIDEO DETAILS:
Like the Spadefoot Toad, many of the plants and animals that inhabit this region depend on rain from the seasonal monsoons for reproduction. With limited time, I set out to capture as much of this incredible weather phenomenon as I could. Over the course of two days and three nights, I chased storms and searched for the seasonal creatures the rains bring out. This was my 1st attempt at storm chasing and this short edit is the result of that work. The footage is part of a larger project to document the Sonoran desert landscape and its creatures. 00:35 This view is looking east, at the western end of the Santa Rita Mountains (which are visible from Tucson, looking southward) > where the village of Amado sits, south of towns Sahuarita and Green Valley, and north of villages Tubac and Rio Rico, all of which are adjacent to I-19 (an Interstate Highway in southern Arizona), within 40 miles of the U.S./Mexico international border. The photographer is likely near W. Arivaca Rd., which leads to the village of Arivaca and westward to the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge, a bird-watcher's delight. 00:46 A close-up of the same, Elephant Head Peak. 00:59 For those viewers who don't know, the wood sticking up out of the water there, is a Saguaro cactus skeleton, having fallen at the end of its time. (Pronounced Sah wor' oh) 1:10 A Mesquite tree seedling (pronounced Mess keet'). The monsoon is a common time for these seedlings to break the soil. 1:12 Cholla cactus, pronounced Choya. 1:15 Prickly Pear cactus, bearing its purple fruit. 1:30 For those that don't know, the bird is sitting on one of the arms of a refreshed Ocotillo, fully leafed from the rains. We don't often see Ocotillo wearing its leaves, so it's a sight to appreciate, one that softens its spiny, leafless and usually gray appearance. (Pronounced Oak oh tee' oh) 2:17 Perhaps filmed at Arivaca Lake, these frogs, Spadefoot toads, are nightly heard in riparian areas during the monsoon, only being above ground for this season of the year, when they breed and lay their eggs in the water. This video is most excellent!
My entire Arizona playlist (now over 1,500 videos) begins with this video. The playlist is an organized video tour of much of the state, featuring the terrain, seasonal weather, bioclimes and accompanying wildlife and vegetation, the natural beauty and diversity of Arizona. That this superb video leads the entire playlist is a Very high compliment to the photographer and producer of this video, Trevor Adler. Thank you, Trevor, and for including the amazing sights and natural sounds of the thunder, rain, wind (subtle), birds, crickets, owl, and toads. You truly did an outstanding job! A+ ( It's too bad viewers can't get a sense of how deafening the thunder truly is! and how torrential the volume of rain is, extreme.)

Love the inclusion of animal and bird life! It really shows how the desert comes to life when the monsoons arrive. Very cool.
