    They fly across the ice! Two strokes and they go from one end to the other. Did this couple have any idea back in 1985 that they would eventually win two Olympic Gold Medals and fall in love, marry, and have a daughter together? Interesting where fate takes you.

      Exactly 💯 and even now in 2023 no one has ever matched them.katia is doing pairs similar to Sergio. But it like she is leading him she's brilliant on her own but proberly misses pairs
      Irritating to watch him as it is obvious no men skater not even his friend new champion from Russia can do it like Sergio. The smile the magic is gone.we all have eyes for katia .but Sergio never over shadowed katia ever. She never flung her arms around Sergio. So it just looks like she's trying to react what she had.love watching her but also longing for him to be here.r.i.p Sergio. Your so missed 🇬🇧

    I like how the man respectfully refers to this tiny child in an adult world as “very petite” like she was a 24-year-old who had every right to be there. But Peggy Fleming chimes in and calls her a rag doll. Unbelievable really.

      Katia wasn't 24. She was more like 13. I believe in 1988 they won the Olympics and Katia was 16.

      This was a Canadian broadcast and the woman was not Peggy Fleming.
      "A ragdoll team"... meaning a big man and a tiny girl. As opposed to a pair like Tai and Randy, who were more equal in size.
      She was not disparaging Ekaterina, just stating a fact that the Soviet Union was pairing up big men with tiny ladies and producing teams that could do more explosive and impressive tricks.
      The Protopopovs were closer in size at 5'3" and 5'9". But, Rodnina was very diminutive (5') compared to Zaitsev (5'10"). Zhuk was also their coach and paired them together. Essentially they were same height difference as Sergei and Ekaterina.
      Now, it's the norm to see a big man and tiny woman.

    another "rag doll"!! Talk about a dumb commentator !!! Just another excuse for not beating the Russian's
    Those so called "rag dolls" fly higher and farther than average skaters and have to land those powerful jumps and throws just as cleanly and skillfully as the average size person whose isn't thrown nearly as high or as far!! They win cause they are skilled graceful athletes and G&G are the very best!!!

    actually, im not sure that it is. if this is 85-86, they were with zhuk. i think the jazzy piano was their 1987 short program. this vid is the same SP they used at 1986 worlds when they were with zhuk.

  • @dramamamaof2
    @dramamamaof2 Před 14 lety +6

    @bookaddict27 No, it isn't. If you watch Jazzy Piano, you'll hear the difference. This is when they were with Zhuk, and an interesting note is that they HATED this program!

      At first I was confused by the weird coloring in the video (color TV was very much a thing in the mid-1980's, thank you!), but you made me look at it differently. They are interpreting a scene from a Charlie Chaplin movie and the color in the video reinforces the old time movie feel. So thank you!

    • @ravenel2
      @ravenel2 Před 4 lety +3

      Uh, no, guys. Color TV was good quality in 1985, but when you recorded it on a video cassette recorder, the playback video would become washed out like this. The color of the video has absolutely nothing to do with the music. Interestingly, Gordeeva and Scott Hamilton did do a Charlie Chaplin program in the late 90s that was filmed in black and white to look old. But this was just a bad recording off a television.
