My original title for this tour was to be "The Grand Homes of Braddock," but then I decided that some of the modest mill homes were interesting, too, and of course so was the remaining commercial architecture and the Carnegie Library. In fact, there are so many notable buildings in Braddock that the town defies its reputation as a cheaply-built neighborhood of "substandard" worker housing. Surprises abound in Braddock and one would be foolish to generalize what this town is about -- whether it relates to its architecture or long history of decline.

My family, both Mom's and Dad's were from Braddock. I traversed most of it form the 60's on through to now. So sad to see such beautiful homes going to rot.

I guess my story with Braddock started at the old Catholic school. Unluckily it wasn't because of me going to school there. It was sold to become a halfway house for state prisoners as a transition from the penitentiary back to the community. My story has a good ending. This was a 3 month detention.During my stay I was only allowed out of that old school to do community service. I got to know Braddock through good works. See I could've stayed inside during that hot summer. Instead I walked the streets & picked up all of the trash we could find. I saw the beauty that this little town along the river once held. I'll always remember Braddock for all of the good that I saw with my own eyes. Not the bad stories that you may hear. I saw a struggling town with a very beautiful sense of community. Braddock will always hold a great place in my heart!!!! That was circa summer of 2013. Thank you this video.

This is great. I grew up in Braddock in the 1950s/1960s; I recognize a lot of the buildings and homes on Holland Avenue--including my grandparent's house. Many thanks for the memories.

It's very sad, but a lot of these towns were thriving in the 1950s and 1960s because of the Mills and Industry. When those started to decline in the 1970s and 80s, the towns went downhill with them.

Looks. Because putting run down houses to piano makes them look rustic or something. It's bad there.
