I gave chocolate to my partner, as well as getting them an art commission for them that I got in secret. I don't really make a big deal about Valentines Day as it is very commercialized here in the US, and it feels kind of empty and fake. But I do like spending time with my partner on Valentines Day and appreciating the small things in life.
The graditude to friends and coworkers thing is fairly new in America. I think it started because there were so many people that would be wearing black in China getting upset with the day, but has kinda turned the definition of 'love' to something more social then sexual and you get fun terms like 'bromance' (a mix of 'my brother' aka good friend and 'romance'). Thanks for the lesson Sensai Sorami!
In America, school children commonly give Valentine's day cards, gifts, and candy to their classmates as friends. For adults, it is most common for men to give flowers or chocolate to women, and couples like to go on dates at restaurants or do other activities together. I wish all of my friends and co-workers a happy Valentine's Day every year. I hope you had a great V-Day, Sorami! Thank you for sharing this video; it is interesting to learn more about Japanese culture and other cultures who do things a little differently than we do in America.
As always I spent Valentine's Day alone and never really make huge deal about it, but I find it as a great opportunity to do something for myself. So I took myself on a date the way I would like as a act of self-love. Dressed really fancy and gone to my favourite Vietnam Restaurant and ate expensive food (good as always). To anyone reading this, if you feel lonely for whatever reason, remember to do something nice to yourself. Your're worth it. Have not only a great day but also a great life ❤
