As an Offaly man, I have to say that Galway team should have beaten us in '85, could easily have beaten Cork in '86 and definitely should have won handy in 1990. Which is to say that they could have won FIVE All-Irelands between 1985 and 1990, putting them not that far off the great Kilkenny team of the Shefflin era.
Well im glad your being honest as an Offaly man would other people in Offaly admit we should But ye i know sure Offaly man hand passed the ball into the net And we had a disallowed goal from joe cooney but its hard to see And not much footage so ye defo should have And in 1998 Clare possibly should have in 1998 but should have been extra time instead idk its a talking point what do make out of it
@@ciaranfahy4689 Well I was actually in the old Nally Stand for the 1985 Final and I saw the Joe Cooney goal that was not given. The ball did actually cross the line but the problem was that there was a Galway man in the square. So what the ref should have done was given a free out for Offaly instead of allowing Jim Troy to puck out the ball, as if it had gone wide, which it hadn't. But what lost that match for Galway was the appalling amount of wides in the first half, plus the selfishness of Noel Lane in going for a goal himself in the second half, when P. J. Molloy was standing completely unmarked. It was at a time when Galway were flying and a goal would probably have won it for them at that stage. Mind you, Joe Dooley's disallowed goal was also a borderline decision. I thought he was right on the edge of the square when he caught the ball, not actually in the square. The whole 1998 saga is a totally different kettle of fish.
@@charliebridges3584 well id have to get a good look at the 2 goals disallowed from Galway And Offaly to be sure ye that probably would have if he had got the ball to pj but still a talking point maybe there will be some footage of it one day still felt sorry for some of them great Galway hurling players
That slap of the hurl from Leahy was brutal, Finnerty just carried on and cleared it anyway. What a warrior
Great hurler. What a half-back line Galway had at the time.
