There's just something heartbreaking about how Phrenapates has full confidence that their alternate self, our Sensei, would do the right thing because they're the same person. They went through hell, dying and even letting his body become a puppet for the Chroma, all so he could travel to our Kivotos for our Sensei do what he can't...
I think I understand the second koan now... Phrenapates understood the incomprehensible, this they understood themselves.
It might have even been implied from the dialogue with the Nameless Priests which they stated, "I don't understand!" in response to Phrenapates Sensei becoming possessed by Chroma. Sensei themself is the incomprehensible, as they take actions no other person would for the sake of a student they owe nothing to. An "incomprehensible" choice from an incomprehensible being. And as you've stated, they understood themselves the best knowing that another version of Sensei is just the same as themselves. Equally incomprehensible, but that's what they understood.

Ngl, rewatching the 4th PV was the hardest. Not to mention relistening to the latest OSTs with current knowledge. It was really hard while fully being aware of the messages and stuff.

I like how despite how chill this song is, the bass is actually quite heavy. And at the end of it, the bass sounds like heartbeat, like P-sensei's heart, slowly dying but still fulfilling his responsibility.

i wish people would look at blue archive and not just have that mindset. As someone who started playing Blue Archive a bit late, I was mostly interested in the gameplay aspect than the whole *cute and funny*, and also at that time i haven't look at the story and stuff.
Once i played the game, man its so amazing. The story is up there, there are happy moments, sad moments, or moments where it left you asking more questions and moments where you feel angry. The themes also helped so much with the story, and you can feel the emotions from them. When you reach the final chapter, it was when i truly believed that this game is a fantastic gem of a roller coaster.
Nowadays, when people say people that play Blue Archive is the p word, i always just think its such a narrow mindset, since the story of blue archive like you said, the story of an adult trying to help students to achieve a better life but also helped them along the way and if there is something at fault, sensei will always be there and take responsibility to protect these young souls and also lead them by example.

@@lanceman2243 It's so tough because by its very concept Blue Archive is impossible to appreciate without noticing its very clear and intentional target audience. It just so happens that the writers of the main story know how to write an amazing plotline with almost a hundred branching character arcs that all come together at the end of months of cute slice of life build-up.
I just don't get how writers could make a gacha main character like Sensei so likeable. We never even see what he/she looks like, just a text box we choose, yet we feel all the emotions the character feels through what little dialogue is chosen. A character so good hearted that we want to emulate them.
Yeah! My favorite part about it too, if you see Sensei's early text choices (for example somewhere in Shiroko's or Hoshino's relationship stories) they don't have much character at all.
As time passes they wrote Sensei with an actual personality, conviction, and dedication. I love this faceless bastard!

残った生徒たちを別時間軸の自分なら助けてくれると信じて自分が助からなくなることを決意して色彩に触れる、常人のなせる技じゃないと思ったけど、先生なら、そうしそうだなって納得できるのがすごい

@@darksidemorel 無名の司祭が「あらゆる次元から神を消しにいく」という言葉を先生にも掛けてたならそこから推測した可能性もあるけど、色彩に触れるまでは完全には分かってなかったと思う。でもあそこで死んだらシロコだけを残してしまうので、どんな状態になっても魂が続く望みに賭けたんじゃないかな

Tear up each time I read this while listening to the song
This game has made me emotional so many times, but the combo of this song, the sacrifice of Phrenapates and the song title really got me. I never got that attached to a mc on any game as I feel they are so empty (of course I understand this is on purpose) but I care for sensei as much as I care for every student.

Phrenapates really shows sensei a third person perspective of how good he is to his students.
I can't get over on how bloody perfect this track is, and the whole scene that goes along with it.
The bass, the beats, the synth. It all creates this ethereal feeling of something bigger than one can think is happening, but it's not big in a literal sense.
It's an internal conflict, a revelation. It's Sensei's (Phrenapates) final decision. His last will.
In one scene it's made to us, the player, very clear what the core values of Sensei are, and what makes him different from other gacha MCs.
It's his determination, his responsibility, his duty and his undying, unwavering and unconditional love for his students.
Sensei knew that Shiroko was the last student standing (Along with ARONA), and this was his last chance to save her from a worse future, but only for the moment. He trusted that, in one universe, there would be another Sensei that could save her for real.
Near the end, when our Sensei say "Listen to Phrenapates", it's metaphorical. Phrenapates cannot even talk, he's a corpse. But Sensei knew. He understood what he was doing, without a word, only a thought. A connection that lies deep between the two, across multiverses, because they are the same person, who share the same values, and are willing to make the same sacrifice.
Sensei knew what must be done, because he is "Sensei", not an avatar for the player, but a real person in the world of Blue Archive.

Damn, that's why I can't put myself in it, I know there's no way I can do that
I have a hard time listening to this track. Not because it's bad or ear grating - in fact it's a brilliantly composed track that perfectly evokes the tone it is meant to convey. A bitter sacrifice made with a hint of sadness, though ultimately one made without regret.
But that's precisely why it's so hard to listen to. This moment in the story was so powerful that whenever I listen to this track, my chest gets tight and I actually feel; if only a little bit, the pain that both Sensei and Shiroko felt. Just remembering that part of the story along with this track makes me feel something no other game has really made me feel, and that's actually impressive considering how I've played quite a few great games that have moved me to tears.
I agree, I still get goosebumbs and feel the emotional weight of that scene whenever I listen to this OST.

Whenever we get Shiroko terror as a playable student, I really hope this is her memorial lobby bgm. It's pretty much hers and Phrenapates theme. It'd be nice for sure...

should've given us the chance to be able to use her in battle - just not in PvP (she would probably be fairly overpowered, so that's why I'm saying not in PvP), I mean, in the story, she's normal/normal - neutral to everything.
sensei is one of the few character i think i never thought i can self insert, person who is really kind and open minded, a person who willing to do anything to help his students even though he had to suffer or sacrifice himself or had to bear pain. A man who will fighting for his even though he in almost disable state in body condition, i don't think i can be open minded as him or I will do the same decision as him. Truly fascinating and unique characteristics.
Personally, I imagine him as a “future me,” someone to strive to be, in a way.

Blue Archive has several songs that can make you cry. But I believe that ‘Responsibility’ does something that no other song in the OST does, that makes it hit even harder. This is a long comment, so just a heads up.
A lot of them, like ‘Morose Dreamer’ and ‘Alkaline Tears’ have the emotional impact compound which each scene they’re used in that further sets them apart from each-other. Seeing the latter be played with Saori, Mika, and Kuroko hones the song into being about their shared circumstances of grief and loneliness.
A lot of songs also have elements from previous songs, be it a motif or being a recomposition, so the three ‘Aoharu’ songs are a good example. They use the progression in music to accentuate the story progression, along with drawing upon the emotional buildup of the previous examples. ‘RE Aoharu’ hits that much harder because it’s a different version of the song you heard at the start, just like how the one version of ‘Pixel Time’ hurts that much more because it’s divorced from the mirth of the original.
But ‘Responsibility’? To the best of my knowledge, it only plays in a single scene and doesn’t have any connections to the other songs. It is a one-time thing, something that completely belongs to Phrenapates and Kuroko. It feels like a completely different beast compared to the other songs, there’s no callbacks that I can hear. It is raw and to the point, a song about the unconditional love Sensei has for their students, to the point where ‘going through hell’ isn’t a hypothetical-it’s exactly what Phrenapates chose to do.
While the other songs gain their feels from patterns and deviating from those patterns, ‘Responsibility’, is the one-time wonder of the soundtrack, the one song that makes you hurt and never returns to do it again.

The story could have ended there with Sensei's last sacrifice and it would have been absolute peak gacha. But dear god if this isn't the end of Blue Archive I'm excited for what is to come. If this entire arc gets fully animated and its given the proper care, storywise, OST and voice acting, it has potential of being the best gacha anime out there.
