- Edward Elgar (1857-1934) - Violin Concerto in B minor, Op. 61 (1905-1910)
1. Allegro (00:00)
2. Andante (18:37)
3. Allegro molto (30:38)
Tasmin Little, violin
Sir Andrew Davis, conductor
BBC Symphony Orchestra - Hudba
Watching Tasmin Little with her violin is like watching two lovers going at it. 🔥
hahahaha how funny! I kind of think about the same thing when I see Joshua Bell perform....and not in a good way. She's an infinitely better violinist. So, if that's the impression you get, more power to you!
To me, this particular work represents the apogee of western civilisation.
In the 1940s I recall my London piano teacher telling me that she had been at the Queen's Hall in the 1930s where this concerto was being performed when a lady in the audience burst into tears during the slow movement.
Now 89 I weep when hearing this and other sublime music
You've got to be joking.
@@greggoryrice7046 He's moved by it, as I am. It's not to your taste.
Awful. Horrible interpretation.
@@robkeeleycomposer no, it's just a weird way to be moved. normal people don't listen to good music and then begin salivating over the bloody legacy of the most barbaric civilization to ever exist.
Wonderful music. Always fresh. A giant amongst composers.
Vet knappt vad jag ska säga...Underbart, fantastiskt... Lyssna själva!
Beautiful performance by Tasmin and orchestra too ...🎻👏👏👏👏
Thank you for posting this. From that time, not so long ago, when the Proms was about classical music rather than identity politics, box-ticking and wokery as it is now, the middle-aged disco dads at the BBC desperate to look cool.
Anyway, Davis is a great Elgarian. I can't listen to this piece too often - it cuts right deep into my heart and reduces me to a blubbering mess, but in a good way.
Great stuff! 🙂 And Tasmin, like the music, is positively EDIBLE!
you edited this comment and it still includes the word "wokery" and calls a female musician "EDIBLE."
kinda embarassing....
Beautiful concerto and gorgeous performance!
Superb.
magnifique interprétation cette artiste contrôle parfaitement le violon bravo
Stupendous performance
In my opinion, this is the most beautiful violin concerto ever written
Thanks for your opinion. However in MY opinion is quite a few violin concertos they can pretend to the same title. Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Karłowicz only if we will mention the romantic style. They are also several times, they was composed earlier or later and also possess generous beauty.
I agree! I love the Brahms and Barber concerti, easily live without the Tchaikovsky bombast, but absolutely adore the Elgar!
BBC Proms 2011
So good I had to watch it again. Same day... Ain't CZcams great on occasion? 👍
There seems to be no information about the cadenza. Was there one? And if so who was it by?
Elgar wrote the cadenza himself - it is in the 3rd movement
@@vincentsheehan3193 : Thank you.
There is one and only one cadenza for this concerto - it's not one of those "pick your own cadenza" pieces. You play that one, and...you play that one because that's the only one there is. Also, as you can tell, it's accompanied except for a handful of bars. Unique sort of thing - it may have been the first such cadenza like that.
I don't find most British composers rewarding. Their musical language is limited and it always succumbs to being too goopy, too maudlin, or annoyingly programmatic.True, Elgar was a cut above, but I find this concerto dull, sorry.
All musical language is limited in some way, by its very nature. To dismiss 'most Engish composers' is a tad sweeping, don't your think? So who are the ones who escape your unbelievable high standards?
It's not as obvious a listen as the Cello Concerto, true... This is a very inward work in comparison, I feel. Maybe the second movement is the best?
@@rayrayvvHe didn’t say Elgar was dull, he actually said he was a “cut above” but that he finds this particular work dull.
Awful drivel!
Now that's what call a truly informed, intelligent observation. It's not to your taste, fine.
bruh ._.
@@robkeeleycomposer rubbish. I have heard T Little a lot of times. Her playing is terrible. She murdered a Bach piece at a nearby village church. The audience was amazed at her “playing”. She was not invited back.
I guess you are trolling rather than being serious? Speaking as a violinist myself, I would say she is an absolutely top notch musician - I've always admired her playing. She also understands the (heavenly) Elgar concerto better than most, having been taught by Yehudi Menuhin.
Do you mean the performance, the work itself … or both?!
The longest violine concerto , but how boring experience ...
I find her performance dawdling , and it becomes boring. Her vibrato is too wide, and sometimes ugly. Also, she tends to speed u all of a sudden.
