Any idea how Lightroom editing on iPad Pro M1 compares to Lighroom on the Galaxy S8 Ultra? Also, any experience with Affinity Photo on the Galaxy S8? If my main objective is photo editing and maybe some simple video editing, should I pick the iPad Pro or the S8 Ultra? I am an Android user and don't have any bias towards Apple.

I am a photographer who usually travels with an M1 MBP, and large camera gear. Recently, I went from Seattle to NH with many stops in between. This time I brought just the S22 Ultra and the Tab S8 Plus. Excellent combo for travel, though I wasn’t doing any work. I did a pet job with just the phone and tablet, and client was very pleased, never noticed a difference…..no monetization for that job.

Hi.... Very Interesting again. I am travelling quite often and having my Mac with makes extra weight to carry around. So I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+, it was mostly for work. But, I had the idea to do the same thing as you. Why not try editing photos? And it works perfectly well. The first thing I've done is to change the setting of my screen. Because by default the Screen display is on VIVID mode... so I changed it to natural. VIVID mode brings too much saturation. So it false the work from the start. Then I use ON1 PHOTO, itworks with the RAW file. I have 1000 Gb on my SD card that is more than enough. What I need to test is if a SSD Hard disk works then it makes pretty conveinent to retransfer the RAW file on it.... This is my experience.... Thanks for this review... again very great!

I like the fact that many android tablets support flash cards and usb adapters, I bought a 1tb ultra-fast flash drive for my tab s8+ and just transfer photos from the camera to the tablet. I have a canon r6 and for a long time it was annoying that I can't view the cr3 in the correct orientation until I found the galleryraw app - it's almost the only android app that allows you to quickly view canon cr3 directly from a connected camera flash, like and import them to the tablet, or immediately import them into lightroom.

Any tips from anyone on how to get a better usage of thr tablet when having a phot shoot on the go.. I want to be able to show my clients the photos I'm taking. Thanks in advance

  • @wandering.camera.guy.411

There is a raw2dng app. Not sure if it supports CR3 raw files but Snapseed will open DNG's. Snapseed won't open my sony raw files either.
I shoot raw + jpg and use my Samsung tablet to cull and edit the JPG for quick IG sharing and use a custom app to name / delete raws for jpgs I cull, etc so Android somewhat works for me.
Another option is a Surface pro 7 or 8. They are maybe 2x as thick as the android tablets but still very portable. You get the pen for editing and you get the full versions of photoshop/lightroom etc. I wish the windows versions of editing apps were a little easier to use without so much keyboard but it's not too bad.

I edit on an iPad Pro and it’s very quick and that’s impressive considering my camera is 42 megapixels. Also, you should do a review on the topaz ai products. You don’t have to buy them, you can just do a free trial, but it does add a big watermark on the image.

How fast is the Micro Sd in the Tab S8 when used for photo storage? Is the gallery fluid as an Ipad Pro?
Thinking of getting the S8 Ultra with 1Tb Micro Sd card and dumping my photo collection on the card. Problem is that I have around 750gb of photos and if they're a laggy mess when you scroll the gallery I won't bother with it and get an Ipad instead.
Could you please let me know your thoughts about this?

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před rokem +1

I didn't have any noticeable lag issues like that when I was using it. I've also never used an iPad, though I hear they are about the best option for tablet and specifically tablet based Photoshop editing mostly due to Adobe putting way more effort into developing their iOS Photoshop version for the iPads.

Great video. I found the masking interface to be quite frustrating, while using my S-Pen. As I was trying to subtract from a mask with the brush, the image kept zooming and unzooming as well as hiding and unhiding the interface, more often than manipulating the mask. Perhaps I was moving the pen too quickly? I found the best success while moving the S-Pen very slowly. But even then, I still experienced the same issues, just less frequently. Eventually, I tried my finger and it seemed to be a better option. I'm hoping this is an issue with my technique and not a side-effect of only having 8GB of ram. The image was taken with my S22 Ultra's main camera. Has anyone experienced this or have any tips? Thank you in advance.

@@ckellawan That made me chuckle, sorry. I broke the tip of my Galaxy Note S-Pen seeing how fast I could swipe the screen playing a game-it involved swinging a boxing glove onto Vladimir Putin’s face on the screen.
I already had the S8 Ultra tablet before I started up photography again, but it became apparent how limiting Android can be. It’s also not ideal for work so I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad for that, plus Windows gives you the full Adobe feature set so that was a bonus.

While I was able to see the CR3 on my Android device, it wasn't ON the device but in Google Drive and added to LR automatically through syncing with the Canon app. Copying the file to the internal storage and trying to add it in LR from there yields no result. I have ON1 PhotoRAW 2022 on my PC and I also have the mobile version. Since I don't have the subscription just buy, then upgrade the software I don't have access to the full version of the mobile app, but perhaps half of it's capabilities on mobile. Masks, gradients, sky swapping, and a few other things I don't have access to, but it does do far better than the built in editors on my Samsung phone. But with a subscription you get it. At 11:32 you picked a JPG not a DNG file, so you weren't editing a RAW file. I don't like mandatory subscription software, so the "A" ecosystem is not something I'll ever use.

You hit the nail on the head. The hardware is great. The software is terrible. It really saddens me because I would much prefer an Android tablet, yet, alas, we use iPads for everything when away from desktops / laptops because of their software and reliability. Honestly, give an iPad a try - Lightroom on an iPad Pro works quite well. When I travel for pleasure, I just take my camera gear and an iPad. It's more than enough. Plus, I do not spend too much time editing while traveling, I try to spend as much time as I can out and about, so the shortcomings of the software / hardware aren't as apparent. Either way, thanks for the video. Very detailed!
