What's funny is that her members, Rosie especially lol, used to quote some of the things she said on the show to Lisa herself. Things like "you don't need to be sorry to me, you need to be sorry to your friends" 😂
My favorite mentor Lisa moments actually come in the YG Babymonster series, where we also get to see mentor Jennie. I think you guys would like that content. It is a sort of "making the band" survival show about YGs newest girl group and it is fun to watch. Start with Babymonster 1-7 and Dance Performance (the black and white one), then the Introducing series for each girl and their Character Playlist. This brings you to the Last Evaluation series where they go through a number of evaluations for the producers and senior artists in order to determine who gets to debut as Babymonster. No spoilers from me, but it is great to see how talented these young women are and how hard they work to achieve their dreams

Don't need to feel bad for these trainees. Lisa mentoring is serious but mild. In Korea, there are many instructors who are harsher than this.
Many kpop trainees and dance mentors praised Lisa for being professional and strict. Lisa herself revealed that her way of teaching is not even close to how harsh and mean trainees are treated in kpop.
But she received many backlash from "kpop fans" for being too "rude" so when she reappeared as a mentor on S3, she became more silent and less strict.
Actually, the perception of how strict she was depended on how the video-clip compilation videos were edited. In all seasons, she was generally very supportive, praised the contestants quite generously and cheered for them. In S2 where she was mentoring the female contestants, IQIYI/YWY producers for the show, enjoyed picking out the moments where she was quite strict...usually in situations where the contestants were at an intense phase of the competition and, for their sake, she had to correct their errors very quickly and bluntly. In S3 (for the male contestants), her approach to mentoring was the same and if you watch the whole show and some clips that were edited out of the show, it's easy to see that she also was quite strict with the boys when necessary. But the show producers tended to make compilations of clips that showed her caring and nurturing side more, like worrying about them if they were sick and buying food for them. From what I can tell, she wasn't really any harder or easier on the boys in S3. And in S2, she was often extremely kind and caring for the girls.

Hey! I think you guys would love Xikers! Xikers is a new group that didn’t even have their first year anniversary yet. They are on the same label as Ateez so they kind of have the same vibes. They are really worth it! They only have 4 title tracks, so you would need to react to b-sides. (THE B-SIDES ARE NO JOKE) The title tracks: Tricky house(debut song), Rockstar, Do or Die(newest song), Homeboy. The b-sides that EVERYONE loves: Xikey (THIS ONE OMG), Oh my gosh, doorbell ringing, Koong(THIS ONE TOO OMGG)
You won’t regret listening to them! They are not popular but they’re not unknown too! They’re songs are more on the drill/rock style. The songs are very hype and energetic, I absolutely adore them!

I felt bad too. Her way of teaching is definitely not for everyone. As an introvert, getting called out in front of everyone like that would makes me cry and even lose focus altogether because I would be too nervous to even continue. But the editing makes me laugh in guilty tho lol
Yh I understand both sides. Thix is generally how dance teaches be acting so Lisa definitely wasn't overly strict like some ppl said. But I just know if I was in her situation and my idol told me that I would be bawling. 😭 I struggle with the same thing she does. I focus so hard on not messing up the moves that I forget my face but its something she can definitely improve
A lot of people didn't understand the context (maybe because they didn't watch the whole show). Lisa was most often very kind and cheering for them. But the show producers liked to separately upload videos of her when she was being very strict because they were very interesting scenes to watch. Usually in the strictest moments, it was because the contestants were at a very intense phase of competition and had only a few days or even hours to prepare their group performances for points and scoring. Lisa's job was to help them improve as much as possible...as fast as possible...before the scoring performances.
In the "why don't you smile" scene, for example, Lisa knew that Nine-One (the girl she scolded), had a rapper background and didn't try to portray any attitude or image other than the cool, unsmiling "rapper". But the competition she had to prepare for was a very happy upbeat song that required a lot of smiling and cheerfulness. Lisa really had no choice but to give Nine-One a "wake-up call" and very clearly pin-point Nine-One's biggest weakness at that point. If Lisa had just tried to be very diplomatic and smiling and sweet about it, Nine-One would have not gotten the message. It was a shock to Nine-One. But she got the message and developed much more versatility and the ability to show cheerful smiling attitudes. People noticed and she got high scores for it. Ultimately, she ended up in the top ten at the end of the season. So nobody can really say that Lisa didn't help her.
Real coaching and mentoring means knowing what kind of message you have to give each person and in each situation to help them get the best results. Lisa actually did that very well. In situations where a gentler approach is better, she would do that. You can see the Yvonne Wang scene with Lisa, where Lisa handled it differently (when Yvonne Wang completely forgot all the choreography), but also got good results because that was the most appropriate way to handle it under those circumstances. Lisa directly demonstrated the choreography for Yvonne and then, knowing how little time was left before the scoring performance, bluntly told Yvonne that if she wanted to maintain a good scoring position she still needed so much practice that she would probably have to go without some sleep, unless she wanted to give up.

You can be strict without humiliating others. Like Soyeon did, for example. At first Lisa pretends to be super cute, but her face completely changes as soon as they make a mistake.

Well, in these videos, you're only seeing the "strictest moments" because the show and other people compiled them into edited videos. People who watched the whole show know that she was always very supportive and encouraging the contestants. The strict moments occurred when the different teams only had a couple days before an important scoring competition. They were group efforts. But also each individual's ranking in the competition depended on the score. There was no time for individual coaching. Lisa had no choice but to quickly and clearly point out the mistakes in front of the group...because it would then be the group's responsibility to correct the mistakes and help the person in practices to correct their mistakes...very quickly. People who think that Lisa was "humiliating" them are not the type of people who would ever do well in intensely competitive team activities. Such very sensitive people don't really understand competition and coaching and judge Lisa as though her job was just to teach people at a community recreation center who were just dancing for fun. The contestants themselves would not have respected Lisa as a mentor if she was always just smiling and worrying about their feelings. The contestants knew that they needed tough, no-nonsense coaching in order to not waste their time.

That's silly. I'm sure you know that the "bad" performances are really just evil-editing videos uploaded by haters, who strain their brains and eyes looking for a few seconds here and there that they can put together in a 1- or 2-minute video...and then claim that their evil-editing video represents all of BP performances. It's a really d u m b talking point. And even many of those "bad" performance clips are not what the hater claims they are. They're often in parts that are intentionally casual or in bridges that aren't tightly choreographed. Just a few are legitimately bad moments...but if you want to strain to hate on someone you can do the same thing literally with any group, just examine all their performances, look for mistakes here and there, then put them all together in a video and pretend like all they ever do is screw up. It's really childish to do that and just as childish to believe and promote that kind of hater nonsense.
