- I built our 2019 Ram Rebel 1500 into my ultimate overlanding truck. It's fully equipped for a weekend camping trip or a month long overland adventure. With purposeful modifications in all the right places it truly is a much simpler build than it appears at first glance. In this video I'll go through each upgrade from the front bumper to the camper build out with some thoughts about why I did what I did along the way.

I've been searching for a Ram 1500 build and this is the ultimate best Ram build I've seen. I love the inside access to the bed and truck bed utilized for additional shelving. Awesome build!
Thank you!
The full size is good. Definitely feel the larger size on those narrow Virginia trails. As a Colorado owner I liked seeing the Colorado; however, this is a decent build. I have never had a truck dedicated for camping. My vehicles usually have to pull double duty which can limit your build.
This is my daily driver so it serves all my duties. I do need the trailer at times though.
Love this build! Everything is so functional, purposeful and tastefully done. Would love to have that as an adventure rig
Thank you! Your hidden winch system fits right into that scheme.
I love what you’ve done on the interior.
Thanks!
That´s a pretty cool truck!!
Thanks!
Great setup. That almost exactly how I wanted setup plus the Dickenson heater. Thank you for the video. Now I know somewhat of an idea how my next setup will be. Subscribed and like.
Glad it was helpful!
I want to ask, have you changed the front and back gears? I have a 2023 Rebel 4x4, and I have an overland build on my truck. I get about 9 miles per gallon. It's because I couldn't regear the front and back ring and pinion. Currently, I have 3.92 gears, but I want to change them to 4.88. Do you know where to get those gears, or can you explain what I can do to improve my mileage?
I didn't change them and it drove great. I got about 11-12 around town and 14 highway. 3.92 was perfect for keeping it in the right RPM range with 35s. 4.88 will make it rev higher and usually lowers your mileage.
Have you corrected the tire size in you computer? I added the Tazer module so I could adjust for the correct tire size. And remember to measure your actual tire size and not just enter 35. If you haven't corrected it your speedometer and mileage will read low and give you false mileage calculations.
Love it
Thanks!
Very nice setup. Looks well thought out, everything you need and nothing you don't. I'm new to your channel, I really like your heater setup with the thru-wall connection. Do you have a video of its install? Mike
I've been planning a quick look at the heater but haven't done it yet. I guess I need to work on that. Stay tuned.
What a great build... unfortuantly for us that have the rambox this won't work. Would be interesting to know "on average" what the cost would be to implement what you have shown us. I have an idea and it includes winning the lottery. :)
Hard to say with me doing the labor and custom building a lot of it but you're easily around $50k not counting the truck to have a shop do it.
I'm still waiting for that lottery to come through myself. Lol.
How did you build the cabinets? Would love to see a build vid on the interior! Looks so clean, nice work.
Extrusion and painted plywood. I just wanted to keep it simple and not get into drawers and such.
Nice build! I have the ram 1500 Limited with the Alu-Cab Canopy Camper as well. It looked like you were still able to use your XM radio in this video around the 13:30 mark. Did you have to rewire the shark-fin antenna on the roof? My Alu-Cab seems to block the signal and I only get XM about 20% of the time. Also has been interfering with the factory GPS.
I used the old style magnetic XM antenna and ran it up to the corner of the windshield. It plugs right into the back of the stereo. The GPS is screwed. Half the time the compass says north when I'm going south.
Were you able to fit a matching spare in the stock location under the bed?
It's under there but it has zero air pressure and took some pushing and kicking while cranking to get it there. A tire carrier is on the list of projects for this winter. I'm still working out the design on that.
How does the dobinson compare to Bilstein 6112/5100s?
Better in my opinion. We use Dobinsons on most of our Overland builds. They are built to handle the heavier weight that we add to them.
The tire size is closer to a 34 than a 35, about a 33.9, i think they look very good compared to my 275/70/17
Most 35" tires measure closer to 33.5"-33.75" but it varies from brand to brand. Back in the day before the tire charts were on the interwebs people just called them 35s and left it at that. These measure about the same as a "35" does in real life.
@@Trailtec4x4 i mean to me that seems like a 34,
285/75/15 is a 33.83
295/75/17 is a 34.42
305/70/17 is a 33.81
315/70/17 is a 34.36
35/12.5/17 is a 35.03 in most cases
If youre calling a ratio if a tire that is closer to a 34 a 35, you will look silly around real “35s”
So i went based on a 17 in the measurements, i do know yours is an 18 that will make it s 34.8, you have the right to say a 35, but this Tiregate Scandal gets people looking silly
As long as I have the right to say it. Thanks.
What is the price of the Alu Cab and what the install price?
Currently around $18k for the base model installed.
What did that whole set up cost? Tires wheels suspension all of it. Good looking rig!!! I’m interested…
