    Although not the GTD, mine is a 1.6 TDI SE Nav, I have the same model car same year, same colour, and nearly same mileage, I've had it just under a year now, and it has been faultless.
    I only bought it as a temporary car after my old Golf suffered some damage, but have kept this one longer than planned, and now intend keeping it for at least another year.
    I like my diamond cut wheels, admittedly, mine were never curbed, but if they were, I would keep them the same.
    I used to be a Merc fan, but with the rust issues and general quality standards slipping over the last 20 years, I would never go back to one of them. The last good car they built was probably the 190.

      I can wholeheartedly recommend a GTD Estate, not that many out there but enough and they will only become rarer. I originally thought I'd just go any buy a nice spec low mile GTD to keep forever but they are still £20k+ and jump to S4 wasn't much more (as a trade purchase). In many ways I prefer the GTD but I've had an S4 TDI itch to scratch and it fell at my feet so couldn't say no

    Bought one of these 3 years ago based on an old video of yours (picked up a low-miler with 6 speed manual). Has been a great workhorse for me, the manual box is good fun on the country roads and it’s an exceptional mile muncher on the motorways.
    Only problem I had was water pump sticking causing it to throw up overheating lights, but once that was sorted it’s been great.
    Thanks for your videos :)

      Thanks for the feedback HJ, I like to put my money where my mouth is and buy the cars I rate highly unlike a lot of other channels. So I’m glad it worked out well for you aside from water pump which is a consumable part but nevertheless annoying when such a crucial component fails

    I had a 2013 mk7 GTD. Got rid @ 91k miles, 3 years ago, after spending £4500 on repairs - including a new turbo. I had the upgraded Dynaudio sound system and was advised it was likely I was going to need a new amplifier (£1000), another parking sensor was playing up (after having already replaced 4 of them) and the car would occasionally not start - although I never got to the bottom of that!! It was a Used Approved car when I bought it at 4 years old and every bit of work I had done was at my local VW stealer. Not a good experience for me.

    I’ve always liked the GTD and especially its cloth interior. Car is in fantastic condition given its mileage. What amazes me is the long term MPG. I’ve got a 1.6tdi Seat Ateca and long term I’m only seeing 42 MPG. Granted I probably do less motorway driving but given the GTD’s significantly up on power it certainly is impressive. A strong contender especially in estate form, for my next car ( on the way to my dream car S4 ), given its practicality and it most certainly will drive better than the Ateca. Keep up with the great content Andrew.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks so much Peter! The 1.6 TDI is a funny old engine, I am sure at certain road speeds and engine speeds it will be more economical than the 2.0 but it always struck me as engine that was calibrated to do well on an emissions test, not so well in the real world. Also Ateca is quite heavy so it might be a little out of its comfort zone. I think Ateca is quite a good car but like any SUV it's less aerodynamically efficient than a lower car. Hence why some of the early Bluemotion VWs were lower than a GTI!

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před 2 měsíci +1

      If it's the 184 PS engine it will be the same engine, A3 isn't heavier, probably lighter as not an estate. Haldex based quattro will add back some of that weight but is pretty efficient. Just check it doesn't run adblue as I had 2019 Leon FR Sport TDI Estate with just 150 PS and that did and it felt very emissions strangled. Mind you it was brand new and there isn't much worse than running in a diesel

    130k miles is coincidentally around the total mileage I covered in my two GTDs. Both were DSG (a Mk7 6-speed and Mk7.5 7-speed) 5-door hatches. No GTI substitute, but still an impressive mix of performance and economy. Both were bought new and never missed a beat. Likewise my first Mk7, a GT TDI manual and last, a GTI TCR.
