I taught elementary school for 5 years and became a BT a year after I left teaching. A year after that, I started at Capella for a masters in ABA and I love it!!!

Hi, I’m looking into BCBA at Capella. I had started a master’s in counseling at Grand Canyon University and stopped on my fourth class, there was so manny essays to do and classes were every 8 weeks it was too much. Would you say the course work is as much as what I just described?
I just finished my first semester of grad school! SO excited to become a BCBA. My local university offers a masters in ABA and it’s opened so many doors for me. I just accepted a full time position making $22 and hour, and they offer supervision.

Depending on what area you are in you can look for work as a Masters Level Supervisor.
im in undergrad right now for psychology. for grad school the hours you need to earn do you get paid for them? also how did you find a way to get the hours. do they provide you with resources?

I am currently in my Masters in health Administration program and graduated with my Bachelors in Business: Supervision and Management. I am thinking about going for the BCaBA in May once I finish my Master's this upcoming year. However, you are saying that can also do the same with my Masters? All I would have to do is once I have my Masters is sign up for the BCBA coursework? I also live in FL.
can you make a video of the hours that you have to complete to be a BCBA? and different ways to get them? I have heard this discourages people because it can take 2-3 years to do the hours
You are required to complete 2,000 "Supervised" fieldwork hours or 1,500 "Concentrated Supervised" fieldwork hours to meet the requirement. Unrestricted activities must comprise at least 60% (1200 or 900 depending on the pathway) of the total fieldwork hours and include things like training staff and caregivers and conducting assessments.

You should start with the BCaBA certificate. It’s only 6-12 months 1300 hours and it costs like $6K. Some agencies pay $65-$80 (NJ) Good luck!

Do you work in the field? If so you should be able to start accruing them while you are working!
I plan to pursue a masters in ABA starting 2023 but not sure if I can get through the 2,000 hours …may look into other career choices upon graduation

And if you do the concentrated track with more supervision, you only have to do 1500 hours!
Hello I’ll finish my bachelor degree in April and I want to start my BCBA. I live in Miami Florida and I am looking for local school to go personally at least one a week. The only school that I know is FIU but I would like a different one. Which one do you recommend? And also I have another question 🙋♀️ if I get the BCBA in a school outside of Florida I will not have any problem with the requirements of the Florida state? To go and pass the exam? Did you find a school here in Miami? Alot of the analysts that work here have said that they did online clases from Spain
If you speak spanish you can check the Master degree in Applied Behavior Analysis and Educational Intervention from Universidad Complutense de Madrid collaboration with Abascool. It’s has all the requirements to sit for the exam in the US or anywhere. You would just need to get the supervised hours.

Hey! Great question, I would say to give a shot and then decided. I personally would not be involved in this career choice if I thought it was abusive towards our clients. As a young science we’ve definitely made mistakes but as a whole we are taking huge steps forward to make our therapy as ethical for our clients as possible. Hope this helps 💜
If I may add to this. Yes, ABA in its nascent form probably deserves critical scrutinization. But today, applying the principles of behavioral physics looks much, MUCH different. In fact, there is a strong emphasis on reinforcement as opposed to punishment. I strongly encourage you to learn what the field is actually about today and how it’s helps in all sorts of ways in society. After becoming passionate about behavior analysis through work experience at some amazing places, I came back to college and now I study psychology with a concentration in behavior analysis. Behavior analysis is, arguably, the most scientific subfield in psychology. We get the most reliable results, and our therapies are all evidence-based and heavily supported by decades of empirical work.
In addition to what others have said, while I acknowledge the history of the field, remember medicine has had some questionable histories as well. Most science fields do before we knew better.
We know better now. It's up to the future practitioners to put in the time and effort to continue to change the field. I want to be part of the solution!

To work as a BCBA you need to pass the board exam and meet all of the requirements 😉
