Kingdom Hearts 4 - After That KH 3 Mess, I Couldn't Care Less

  • So Square Enix just announced Kingdom Hearts 4... And I'm wondering why anyone in their right mind should care about this especially after that last game released in this series. It seems Square Enix's rampage of mediocrity continues with each passing day. What's even worse is knowing that some misguided fools out there actually thought that Kingdom Hearts 3 turned out to be a good game. The DLC alone dispelled that fantasy within of itself.
For those wondering what kind of game this will be, I'll simplify it for you:
Here's what you'll get with Kingdom Hearts 4: More convoluted god awful storytelling with terrible dialogue, a severe clash in 3D cartoon animation vs realism, over produced bosses designed specifically for trailers like this to build preorder numbers, a floaty-as-hell combat system that's designed to aggravate and annoy all the while remaining too easy leaving out any true challenge that's based on actual solid grounded design, an insulting lack of content across the board, some overpriced DLC that will only showcase how piss poor the entire experience is, and if the fans are lucky, MAYBE they'll actually throw in some god damn Final Fantasy characters this time around.

I legit had someone jump up on here trying to defend KH 4 by saying that the reason KH 3 wasn't good is because "Nomura just wasn't into it because he was taken off Versus XIII and forced into KH 3". That's called an "Excuse". If you don't know what an excuse is, go search up the definition. I don't want to hear excuses; I want to see results.
Tetsuya Nomura is an industry professional who's been with Square Enix long before Kingdom Hearts was even thought of before the merger when they were still called Squaresoft. If his heart "isn't in it" then he needs to step down, resign, and work elsewhere. Otherwise, he along with everyone else that's in charge of producing these games has a responsibility to fans to deliver something that is and feels complete, a game that doesn't shove Final Fantasy characters on the back burner or treats difficulty like the audience is made up of five year olds who care more about graphics than solid gameplay mechanics or is left on some stupid cliffhanger after hours of forcing players through a disjointed story that was abandoned in the first third of the experience. I don't care about hearing excuses about why the last game wasn't good or strange off-the-wall interjecting arguments about why this game will be good based on zero evidence to support that statement.
I simply want to know that this game will be good cause thus far, it doesn't look very good at all. It looks like more of what KH 3 was and KH 3 was lazy.
Also, the next fanboy who jumps up on this channel with a damn Sora thumbnail trying to defend this nonsensical series who tries to defend Tetsuya Nomura's stupidity by bringing up FF Versus XIII, you're getting banned by default.

The game was clearly made for aesthetics, not genuine challenge or investment for the audience. If they go back to the design philosophy that KH 2 had then this game will have a chance to not be a complete waste of time. Nonetheless, it's likely that this won't be the case.

They'll come up with whatever random stupid shit to continue the terrible narrative in order to make more games. What it could use is a hard reboot but then again, the same could be said about Final Fantasy, their flagship series. l still wonder why they can't go back to the old style(PS2 era or 90s) when the graphics were a game. A fantasy and not trying to be 'realistic'. An example of improving graphics too much in horror games is that they get less scary, monsters look more 'relatable' and less scary, less original. Lost in Vivo was scarier than any modern horror game to me
l don't know how to present it to you well but l hope you got my point.
l find MGS1 or MGS2 more attractive than MGSV or Thief Gold than Thief 4, just an analogy to get across my point. Of course, it could be just all subjective and not a valid argument from me.
P.S l don't mean to make graphics to be the old style for subjective reasons but to make graphics/style that fit in the game, that empathises traits or whatever is a good graphic style that fits in the game.

I love the two main console games KH1 & KH2; I can see that they were experimenting and trying to combine Disney/fantasy and it went great for KH1 because you could feel that they were emotionally invested in making it.
But I think KH2 at its point of release already made the game story too much but gameplay wise is mixed with me because KH1 was more open in combat and your allies were so good that they could do the fight for you but in KH2 they are unable to even barely kill 1 enemy at the end of the game at max stats.
KH3 & Misc releases were just overusing a name brand too much. I'm not for companies over using series until they are dead or get reboot which kills the original artists views of their own product; I bet even today the game developers who made KH1/KH2 (some worked on KH2 from KH1) don't appreciate their original painting to be ruined to this point or even wanted it to last this long. I feel it should have stopped at KH2 since it already made a story mess but it did give Sora an actual happy ending to his adventure to those wanting it.
KH4 will fail to listen to its original creators wishes and I would only say it would have hope if the original devs of KH1 came back with passion in their hearts but I highly doubt they even keep watch of the series nor even think about it anymore.

Kingdom Hearts is way too convoluted story wise. The guy at 4:41 is the Master of Masters, a very ancient keyblade master (not an Organization XIII member) (read his wiki page to learn more). Antagonists in this series seem to love wearing black hoodies a lot. The point of the Dark Seeker Saga was to prevent Xehanort from getting to Kingdom Hearts by defeating him. The heartless will continue to exist as people's hearts will continue to be consumed by darkness. This new saga was set in motion when the Master of Masters was introduced in Kingdom Hearts X. Personally, I don't like story sagas as they are just a way to stretch a series out. I just don't like how much of a cluster fuck that Kingdom Hearts is.

      @AvidAlchemist  Před 2 lety +6

@Some_Gamer_Guy_123 Everything you just typed sounds unequivocally dumb no fault of your own but of Nomura's terrible concept of the word "storytelling". A good story needs some kind of basic to-the-point element that allows it to flow in a way that doesn't confuse its audience. No one should have to read wiki pages to understand a story. In fact, that's the opposite of what it means to have a thorough narrative be in in videogames or other mediums. The point of these games isn't to provide deep thought- provoking plot to its audience, the point is to horde Disney properties to make a profit. If anything, the audience is just being strung along under the presumption that the "story" is relevant in these games. It's clearly not. KH 3 proved that all on its own not to mention the numerous spinoffs between it and KH 2.
SE's ridiculous handling of the KH series is a prime example of how not to tell a story not just in videogames but in entertainment in general.

I think KH4 could be really good though cause this is Nomura’s game. Disney isn’t pulling the strings this time. This is his vision of Versus XIII come to life in the Universe of Kingdom Hearts. This is the game Nomura has wanted to make for years now so I really think he’s gonna put his heart and soul into KH4

I loved my time with 3 and I'm excited to see more of 4. Just because you didn't enjoy 3 doesn't mean it's automatically bad for everyone. Sorry you didn't enjoy it much. Please don't go around berating and attacking people for not sharing the same opinion. And don't take it that I'm attacking you either I'm just saying that just because you think something is bad doesn't mean it's 100% fact.

@Penny Serrato You can like whatever you choose to. I always base my opinion on what these companies say that a product will be and Kingdom Hearts 3 was objectively by fact not what Square Enix said it was going to be which was a franchise capper. Instead, it was a weak vehicle used to promote more games in the franchise. It's not about what I think. It's about realizing what a product is versus what it should've been which is why so many couldn't stand it. What you see as an "attack" is actually me challenging people like you to expound on what exactly you thought was so good about games like this and the answer usually comes from a place of ignorance almost 100% of the time or you refuse to explain what you liked about it which explains in greater detail what the issue is with companies like Square Enix. It's fact because I base my opinion on facts. I don't say something is fact just to gloat.

@terrell thaddies You dont know where KH4 is going. None of us do. That's a big part of the overall problem, not just with this game but with Square Enix in general. The employees say many things in interviews and most of their statements turn out to be lies or half truths with regards to the final product. Their president and CEO started out this year yalking about how he believes in NFTs and the blockchain only to try issuing some damage control nearly 4 months later. They're not a trustworthy company at all. They'll lie about game length, quantity of content, narrative consistency, the list goes on and they'll still underdeliver way below the bar regardless by fact. As I stated, it'll be a miracle if the game turns out to be competent the way SE has been run for over the past 15 years. I hope you get what you want from it.

A year late but thought id chime in on the topic
I grew up on KH2 i watched my brother play the 1st one when i was like 6... never played COM but also dont have any issues with it... kh2 is to this day my favorite game i make an effort to replay it at least once a year
I never played the og 3ds days version (only watched the cinematics) DDD or any of the other side stuff
When KH3 dropped i played it and was pretty heavily dissapointted i remember being extremely lost and i remember saying to myself "why didnt they just end the story with 2 and make days a spinoff to tie it all together"
I really cant say with certainty that im a "true" kingdom hearts fan because ive only enjoyed 2 and Days but what can i say is that 2 and Days has a soul and i personally didnt feel that in 3 which really sucks
I wanna look forward to the day i can play a new kingdom hearts game and enjoy it but until then ill just stick to 2

I waited since 2007 for this shit that released on 2019? Nomura could've saved himself the trouble had he went with calling Birth By Sleep as Kingdom Hearts 3. We all expected that to be #3, especially after unlocking that secret ending at the end of #2. But Nomura chose to be pretentious and jerk us around with filler crap and the end result was a game that I felt had no direction most of the time, rushed and lackluster. Melody Of Memories didn't do shit in answering more questions. Instead, it created more. Who's here in demanding Square Enix redo Kingdom Hearts 3, this time with our input because we can make a better story and fighting mechanic?

I've been a fan since KH1 and played every game except for re:Coded and after I played KH3D aka DDD, I was not looking forward to KH3 at all. I think what disappointed more than KH3 was the fact that they excluded Mirage Arena multiplayer from the Remix remaster of BBS and they completely did KH Days a disservice. Even if KH Days had been remastered multiplayer would have been left out anyways which to me is incredibly absurd.

  • @keybladewar22

KH4 does look great but I really hope they at least do better because yes KH3 was a major mess. The gameplay or combat felt meh. It had no weight to them & not to mention fighting the foes in that game felt brain dead since you don't get to interact with them like you could in KH2 where you had to learn their move & find thier weakness. But magic seems to be the way to go in that game to do big aoe damage so why bother learning their moveset not to mention you would just get off screen hit by something anyway for trying to learn. The team really need to work really hard on trying to make KH4 a game that won't do as bad as 3 did or at least have some memorable moments because the only momnet that was good in KH3 was woody roasting YX but that's about it. I am with you on this. My expectations are low because when they hype the crap out of the game nowadays it seems to always fail & after that mess KH4 could be doomed to share the same fate KH3 face if they keep this up. Only time will tell. Also, one thing I want to add in case you don't know or someone probably told you but that was not the shock lock in that trailer. They said the reaction command were returning in KH4 not sure that means anything but thought I mention that. Good day.
