i have severe foraminal stenosis at L5/S1 to the right. the pain is severe to the right of the spine and can radiate into my buttocks. it does not radiate down my leg. i don’t understand this. can surgery help?

I had a laminectomy for foraminal stenosis at L5/S1 5 weeks ago and first two weeks after surgery i felt great! And recovered very quick, and the physio was very happy as well. the doctor did mention the nerve was more impinged than initially thought and he had to take aways some of the facet joint, but over the last 4 days ive had worse pain than before surgery, radiating down my ankle and foot and lower abdomen. im back on prescription meds and pray it clears up before my 6 week check up

Update: few days after my previous post, i ended up back in hospital, went for another MRI, had reherniated the disc, 6 days later went in for revision laminectomy and discectomy and now a week post opp. Feel much better than after the first one. No pain at all, hardly any stiffness, wouldnt say that a week ago i had open back surgery. I just DONT want to go in for a 3de time - then id have to get a fusion as the doctor already took away as much bone as he could, before it would become unstable.

@@ulynvanzyl8474 glad to hear the second surgery was a success. did you have pain that radiated down your leg? or did it stay primarily in your lower back? mine rarely radiates down my leg but it stings to the right in my lower back. thanks and best wishes

@@SilasMarnerAuAg thank you, no strangely enough, i have had hardly any back pain at all, but my leg was killing me - sharp stabbing pains in my thigh and pain in my ankle i last felt when i broke it and this second time around i couldnt not figure out how to move or what to do to get it to go away, hence i went back to hospital
