British bombers destroyed most german cities and killed half a million civilians - deliberately, not by accident. And then there's the arrogance. Most English fans know of and acknowledge our limitations. But this England team has huge potential but have played pants. Will probably lose tomorrow but hey, they have done well overall.

There is always going to be a handful of knobheads. Like the few in this video. But the vast majority of England fans abhor the historical reputation. The 10 German bomber song is old and tired, but also equating that to England fans all being terrible and hostile is a big leap - often by the media. The Argentines sing about England over past wars. Lauding up some victories on a battlefield is also baked centrally into Flower Of Scotland ffs. It’s crass, however a song about England being invaded by Nazis should not be seen as that big a transgression when sung at a football game. Football chants are often crass. As the fella said in the video, even some Germans get it. Just like nobody cries in England when Argentina fans sing about their battle for Las Malvinas. Or the Scottish get misty eyed over a battle against England from 800 years ago, that absolutely no living person from either nation was involved in.

@@calinho7689 FOS is a beautiful anthem. At the same time, is referencing the English absolutely necessary in order to stir up Scottish patriotic fervour and pride? The answer is almost certainly yes, because at a fundamental human level, there isn’t a single Patriotic nation in the world who doesn’t rely on a struggle against some “common enemy” to form part of their shared identity, even if that struggle happened long before anyone alive today had anything to do with it. It’s a crass song, but the sentiment is exactly the same with 10 German bombers: could England fans form a national identity without leveraging Germany as a common historical enemy? Ideally yes. In reality, probably no. No more than Scotland can forge their own identity without their dislike of their neighbours being a useful foil to unite them. This doesn’t make them bad people.

As a Scot I have similar feelings towards Southgate and the England team. I feel sorry for them a lot because, for a start, there's no doubt there's a section of England fans that are downright nasty (abusing their own black players, for example) and it must be difficult to play for them, even if they are a minority. But, more than that, I feel sorry for the managers of England for the position they get put in. Either they win or they get slaughtered. The media thrive on either talking up or talking down and there are headlines with increasing regularity from months before which builds things up to ridiculous levels. ''Can we win? Who should we pick?'' That goes on for months and then every result is either a triumph or disaster. The saviour the media demand changes on a weekly basis at the drop of a hat. It's all so much hyperbole and media-driven - like being chained to someone bipolar.
And yet I remind myself that none of this is the fault of Southgate or the players. Southgate actually seems to do well in attempting to neutralise the natural inclination of the media towards jingoism. I like the guy, truth be told. Is he a great manager? Probably not. He's good with the media (and that's not to be underestimated because the media can ruin England managers and England teams), he more or less picks the players I would, but he's a bit passive in games sometimes. So he has his pluses and minuses, just like anyone else. And the current crop of players are more likeable than their predecessors and all very good players.
I just wish a section of the English fans would stop being so fickle about their team, get a sense of perspective, maybe watch some football from outside England now and then, stop treating international football as an excuse to behave like morons, and try going with the ''quietly confident'' attitude rather than a load of bravado and trying to talk down other teams or living with schadenfreude. You have a good side (sometimes). You don't need to antagonise everyone.
All in all, I wouldn't grudge them winning either. They are a big footballing country, they're probably due one ('66 is a long time ago) and they have good players. I can't help but feel that a section of their media and a section of their fans act like an anchor towards the team's performances at times. It'd be so much easier going low-key but that's beyond those types.

Ask the police and actual authorities in any host nation and they will tell you the truth. The reason England fans are involved in violence sometimes is because the hooligans from places primarily in Eastern Europe scour the towns and cities looking for the England fans, and then the England fans defend themselves. This has been the case at the last 4 major tournaments at least, and is well known and documented by the police and security. Most of the people who ‘hate’ England football fans are actually middle class English people who don’t like working class people, and haven’t got the foggiest idea what they’re talking about. Loads of other working class football fans from places like Spain, Italy e.t.c have a great time partying with the England fans.

    3. Our Fans.. ...... They say, If not the most uncivilized mob, then one of.
The main problem is, our Fans drink too much, much too much, and that begs the question "why". I was in the Army for years, and as a Black soldier hardly ever drank. I'm a Brit living in Spain, we are pretty much multi culti here. At the local golf course where we have various societies, it does seem to be the Brits who make the most disturbance/noise, in our Community the Brit kids are the worse behaved...I know they are on holiday but so are plenty of others, but to be fair we also have some noisy Scandinavians. Now the gist of this video I think can be put down to British FOOTBALL fans! Football as a sport in this day and age is pretty tribal, it's professional exponents are quite often cheats and some of the "fans" have no or very little social skills, I've been to loads of International rugby matches where there has been a lot of drink but I've never seen behaviour as at a soccer match. Go to a rugby international and the drink translates into song (mostly)...I hope rugby doesn't go the way of football.
To finalise...in my 78yrs experience ( 22 in the military ), and a sports lover...there is a case against the Brits abroad in general being some of the worse, tie that in with football supporters and you have a pretty explosive cocktail ( no pun intended !), but generally I would say that FOOTBALL brings out the worse in people.

Speaking as a German who grew up in London, I got mobbed a lot at school for being German, but I bear no grudge against the English in general. In fact I would normally be supporting England against Spain, but I am pissed off with the constant disrespect that England showed with the whistling during foreign countries national hymns, and the whole world war thing is getting kinda old. The world knows that Britain lives in the past mentally, but maybe it's high time to move on.
I would at least respect these fans for their honesty, were it not for the fact that they just don't give a flying feck. Should England win, I will have mixed feelings. I don't want the rude ones rewarded, but I generally would preferr to see England win over Spain, and there are those English who I would like to see happy for a change.

The British are a great laugh, they know how to party and have a good laugh. You only live once, go and enjoy yourself. Different people get enjoyment from different things. Why is it so hard for people to comprehend that 🤷‍♂️

Germany 2024, no fast internet, no card payments everywhere, late trains, no phone ID cards, no electronic prescriptions. No text messages from the authorities about weather threats and traffic jams. I'm shocked that they live like it's 1994.

At the world cup 06 in Germany I met an Englishman who was at the public viewing for Germany
    s opening game.
He said his only reason to come to Germany was to witness our pain for when we exit early.
I was looking at him expecting a punchline or a laugh. But it never came.
