This pie business should have a liner in their order policy like: Pies ordered cannot be cancelled as they are perishables. And request 50% deposit to be paid for orders of 30 pies and more.
I believe it's called a clause
or maybe you should hold the company accountable for doing what they did
Sometimes it's difficult to do that when doing business with big companies. They could dictate how they do payments, for example. Small businesses usually just agree because of the amount they are potentially making.
this has turned out to be the greatest thing that could have happened to the pie business. She got paid by Tesla AND her business is booming with all this free publicity.
are you offering free services or are you just some fake that knows nothing about contracts?
To be fair, I do agree, bailing on an order this large is despicable. But what the MSM is leaving out, is the fact that Tesla hired a third party vendor, Flavor City, whom goes directly to small local food businesses/pop-ups/restaurants, etc. They are the ones who actually failed to do sound business. Either way, Elon cleaned it up. Kudos to both Tesla and The Giving Cafe.
Whoever that employee was at flavor city should be charged with a felony.
I would use Costco as the food vendor for meetings.
Good thing someone did research, cuz it seems like people just love dogging on musk and Tesla and being anti-corporate 😂
@@LebronCCPA felony? For what, pray tell? Mistakes happen. Miscommunications happen. The only thing that should happen is that the organization responsible for the error makes things right. Tesla wouldn’t even notice this much money missing from one manager’s petty cash pool. It’s right that they made it right. That’s all that needs to happen.
FSD, Summon, Smart Summon are all not working on brand new Teslas.
When will Elan 'clean that up' ?
Requiring non-refundable deposits is a great business practice.
literally every bakery i know has one, dont know why she dont
@@AsinT.She probably trusted them since they're a big popular corpo and wouldn't do something to hurt her small business that can ruin their rep... welp looks like she miscalculated
@@ButterNCreamz 2000$ isn't even that big for multi-billion company they could've just paid it afront, it's just a point second of money from what they are earning in a day.
She's getting the $2K from Tesla AFTER the story aired. Still, good on Elon for paying this small business expense.
Elon Musk IS a Man of his Word! I had No Doubt he would pay them Right away! Tesla has many people working for them. Mistakes happen, and they get taken car of correctly.
Only paid because of the negative PR. Mush has a history of stiffing other business partners.
Probably wasn’t his fault he made up for a worker at his place.
Yes I’m sure Elon was micromanaging the catering of the event in one of his companies. Because he doesn’t have anything better to do.
@@Trysaratop But remember this was in the news recently:
Twitter Faces Nine Lawsuits for Failing to Pay Bills.
Cheapest "oops" for Tesla to fix, and even if she didn't get the $2k, I don't think she could have gotten this much positive advertising and PR if she paid a firm $20,000 👍
So many problems with large companies are only solved by going to the media, public shaming is what it takes to get them to pay.
It shouldn't have to be that way. ☹
this is the opposite, this only made headline news because it was Tesla. Tesla went through a 3rd party vendor and they dropped the ball. Tesla gets the black eye because all the details aren't covered. But ABC news gets the clicks and $$
Elon is the owner of X so he of all people should know that.
@@Milesco same goes for the extremely huge platform you comment on..

Owner has a great personality! Fact is they had no intention of paying her back until they got bad publicity. Appreciate the news coverage and follow up on this story.
Elon probably wouldn't have known if it wasn't on the news multiple times . Man is too busy to worry about pies.
@@lizacrochets98 Elon should never have to deal with food vendor issues. There are many people at Tesla that have authority other than Elon who could have dealt with this issue. In the first news coverage, the business owner talked about how she called and emailed after Tesla cancelled, and no one responded, that's why she posted on social media. While she was getting interviewed for the news was the first time Tesla reached out to her again after radio silence.
@mlo8081 That's not what I said, but alright...
@@mlo8081 Exactly. It's actually quite bizarre to me what one of the richest men in the world has to deal with, only because it's in America and because she went on social media stressing that her business is owned by a black woman. Can you imagine Bernard Arnault who's even richer than Musk, or any other ultra-wealthy European for that matter, dealing with such crap like a canceled pie order in person?! Haha, definitely not. She’s a hard working American and it’s just so heart warming. ❤️
Clearly she has time for them, as she still talking about them 😂
Did you even watch the video? Did you even listen to what she actually said? No? She currently doesn't have time for them, but would be glad to work with them once she does.
@@stevegonzales527 - English is not her first language. So consider that she translates words literally and without the nuance of a native English speaker. For the little guys, going to the media is the ONLY way to get things done with big companies and the government

She's doing business the "old fashioned way" where you take the order, invoice, provide service, get paid at the end. Unfortunately, we live in a time where there's often no honor, every man for himself. She'll have to start requiring at least a 50% deposit.
Wait, so is the Tesla employee saying they wanted the “option” of purchasing 2,000 pies at the last minute? Do they think this is Star Trek?
Make it so‼️

Did I hear $2,000 dollars - how embarrassing. Any Manager would have immediately paid the $2,000 dollars if any employee made a commitment - even if it was an error. The reputation of the business is more valuable that a few thousand dollars. Elon will be having some serious conversations with that Department!
Yes when you are that big of a company it should of not been an issue at all the person should of compensates her for the trouble they did to her.
Apparently it wasn't Tesla. It was a 3rd party vendor. But yes, its Teslas responsibility.
She has a great attitude.
I hope this restaurant owner is booked and busy till next year.
Its wild that Tesla tried to blame the 1st employee and say they didnt have authority to make such an order for an event, but then another different employee who did apparently have authority went and doubled the initial order after the fact only to cancel it later. They have a lot of miscommunication going on
No wonder that baseball broke a so called bulletproof car window in front of a live audience
Excellent news coverage...of most important news of the day.
Omg her positivity in life is just contagious ❤
Remember to get a Purchase Order signed my an authorized agent of the company before you spend one dime fulfilling an order.

When I first heard about this, I thought: "Elon Musk - what a no-good SOB". But then someone on the inside told me that he called the person associated with this transaction and told them in no uncertain terms that this kind of thing would not be tolerated. Kudos to Musk for not publicly blasting this employee. He has bigger fish to fry than worrying about a low-level event manager who canceled an order of apple pies.
MDF chimes in. _ _ _ _ Defense Force.
Yeah that never happened.
😂😂😂😂Lemming spotted
I got inside info saying that said Elon Musk was worried that this pie maker was going to take him down. So he called people responsible for this crying ordering them to fix it so he won’t get ruined by a pie maker while rolling on the floor and crying like a 4 year old toddler.
He's historically never had problems harassing employees in public internet spaces before, so
The victim blaming in the comments is crazy.
It’s almost moronic to start a large order without a deposite. Especially if you are a small business

Bruh they shoulda payed them at least 10k for the trouble. Not like that’s a bit dent in profit for Tesla
This lady seems very nice. I hope she learned a basic, common-sense lesson: require payment up-front for special orders.
Glad they paid them for their trouble. Smart move by Tesla.
Because some entitled employee put Tesla's name in a bad spot and Elon had to step in. If i were Elon I'd either punish or fire that employee.
It wasn't smart, it was due to public pressure!

It’s awesome that so many people came to support the bakery
Fifty cents per mini pie is a great deal. Of course it's bulk price, but still.
Doubt it. She said $2000 for just ingredients for 2,000 pies. Gotta assume she charges at least $2 a piece if it’s costing her $1 just in ingredients to make.

@@twdjt6245, yes. They only repaid her for her ingredients, not her lost labor or profit.

Yeah, I think the right thing to do was to pay up, instead of just ordering more huge orders. I mean, I'm sure they would be happy for big orders, but they also need to operate their regular business too, and she said they turned away other business the first time, in order to take Tesla's order. So they don't have infinite hands to make everything.~
Tesla should pay her the full agreed upon amount, not just reimburse her for ingredients. She was counting on that income and turned down other orders.
Thank you for this great coverage!
bless this woman not holding a grudge, more patient than i’d ever be
Should've given her $5k to make up for the emotional distress.
Maybe they did and she’s too humble to broadcast it to the world.

Tesla should PREPAY the bulk of the bill, just like any other past customer with spotty payment history.
It’s so great when we see the good side of human beings supporting each other.
🥧🚗 Tesla's repayment to the San Jose pie shop owner after a last-minute cancellation is a heartwarming gesture. It's great to see businesses uphold their commitments! 💼👍
It's not heart-warming it's common business practice.
It's not heartwarming, they only repaid after the locals were outraged. It's just another example of a corporation thinking they can do whatever they want, then when they get backlash, they do the right thing. If the locals didn't make enough noise about this, that lady wouldn't have gotten a cent from them.
It’s not heart warming, it’s the bare fucking minimum 😊
That's lovely to see. Often the big bosses have no idea what's going on with smaller things(to their company) like this.
He only paid bc she published it to her account of social media.
The employee who casually sent the cancel text had no idea that this would affect the business. She should be fired for that. A very unpleasant woman.
She should have been paid the cost of payroll and electrical used.
I would require payment in full up front before i would agree to do business with them again.
No, 25% is enough to cover costs. You don't want to chase a big customer away.
Wait, was she not able to sell the pies to other people? Wouldn't that have made her money back? Did she get paid by Tesla and also paid for the pies?
Hopefully next time she'll require a deposit when making that order before purchasing all those ingrediants.
yea after the negative press coverage lol
You need to use social media in order to get companies to do the bare minimum 😢
Especially with Musk.
Repays? Telsa just paid, not repaid.
Unless there were specific terms stating otherwise, would Tesla or the catering company not be liable under contract?
Though I suppose there is trouble in the form of finding the time and money to actually sue.
😄Her saying she doesn't have time for them brightened my day🥰
LOL! Funny they decided to make her whole AFTER a news story broke out. Glad she got her money and glad she got so much support. Seems like she is very kind and deserves it.
FINALLY! A good-news-happy-ending story… no matter if the road to getting there was twisty & had a few bumps! The bottom line is a small business owner with a good work ethic was not trampled over & “left for dead” as we sometimes read about. Kudos all around 👌
Happy for her. This can be devastating for a small business.
Of course people have to get it to the media to get things done...
We also have Easter this year, that statement cracked me up
I love that Tesla's actions caused them to not be able to receive a future order from her in early March. Good job, mainstream media, mayors & loyal customers. You all contributed to a happy ending for an initially, sad story!📺👍🏽🌻❤💕
I just don't understand why she didn't ask for a deposit or full payment lol
She seems like a very nice lady. I’m glad everything worked out for her and her business.
sad thing is, if this never went viral and picked up by media, 200% they wouldn't have done anything, which was the case in the begining
Buying more stock 💯
The person that cancelled the order will be soon submitting their resume at a pastry shop.
Him making things good was 2,000 $ ... 🙄 What screw the labor she had to pay ?
Imagine everyone cancelling their Tesla orders
The Tesla employee should shoulder it and get fired after.
lol it was probably some higher up who wanted to cut costs
bet you Elon will straighten them out for sure
Calm down. It was probably an assistant being told what to do. She has grace. Why can't you?
I agree, but no doubt that would be a violation of labor law.
Yea like an assistant makes budgeting decisions 🙄
Still lost out on the total sales, of course. Just recovering the materials.
How much did she ask for deposit before purchasing the ingredients for such a large order? Last minute cancellation does happen. Next time please ask more deposit. Glad everything works out well.
thats why u ALWAYS ASK for HALF OF THE TOTAL COST UPFRONT!
I’m glad Tesla finally repaid. I was appalled at hearing their delay in paying. I don’t think I’d do more business with them unless they pay up front.
I love how she big timed Tesla back after people heard about this.
Tesla should dock or fire the employee, it seems she was not authorize to make such a purchase.
Fire that employee and Tesla should have compensated her more than the $2k.
Maybe they did?
Thanks, Tesla, for that nice "after-the-facts-went-public" payment.
If this was any other company but Tesla it wouldn’t even make local news.
Lucky for the bakery that's the case otherwise she would have got stiffed.... sh1te company, sh1te systems... Did the same to us

Need to call out Flavor City, not really Tesla's fault but good on Elon for making it good.
By paying 2000 on a 16000 order , and only after it went viral for the sake of publicity damage control . Nope, not impressed.
@@janetdotson7829 If it's anything like corporation I work then Tesla is (was) really innocent in this. They throw money at third party to make it happen and say "we have budget of $xxxx and there will be xyz people on date aa.bb.cccc - make it happen" and don't give a damn about anything except for the time and place to arrive on requested date, nor do they micromanage what, where, who, what food (except for allergies) or how.

Now that's a great heart warming story for a beautiful person... darn it I wish I could get one of those little pies!!! Apple crumb please...😱😉😏💝
Next time they want to work with her she should ask for a deposit that covers the cost of ingredients. If they’re not willing to cover it then move on to another company that hasn’t cost you stress.

All orders over $100 should be prepaid.
So they were going to get 4,000 pies for $2000? That’s a great deal. That’s 50 cents a pie. Meanwhile Crumbl cookie is out here charging $15 for 4 cookies 😂
This is nice. Sounds like she has her priorities straight this time because initially, she cancelled on some of her other customers, to accommodate this large order.
I don't think she cancelled on other customers... just that she had to refuse some big orders that came after because they were planning on the tesla order.
Why mini pies, ? Just get big pies😂
Only the $2000 for ingredients? That's BS you pay the full $16,000. Cheap pos Tesla!
Probably a prank call
Big companies should not F around with small companies.
The smile who got paid more than $2000😂😂😂
A company that is worth over 500 billion is just going to give her the $2000 back, that's like a double F you from Tesla.
Glad it worked out for them.
Look like one Tesla employee or more got fired for the pie saga.
This is what I expected would happen.
Hope other big companies near her would support her when they have company events and celebrations.
I couldn't agree - sorry Tesla no time for you. Smart business lady.
$2K to make it right ? Most large corporations wastes that much in less than a minute.
She should go for an on-site snack shop for their employees.
2k maybe pocket change but in a scenario if they didn’t owe back she have the right to sue them since what they did is pretty much impeding/endangering a business regardless if big or small. She could win the case with proof of the order dates, quantity and transactions owed with response from the staff on cancellation at last notice.
Good luck to you & your business! 👍
