I bought one the other day. I have a lot of other Vornado heaters and I have had good luck with the brand. But I wanted one with a timer because I do elder care at nights and didn't want to leave the space heater on accidentally. I was happy the timer worked. I never use the thermostat part of any heater. When I buy heaters, I take an online electricity usage calculator and make a chart for myself at how much it will cost if I use it per hour and the "money savings" function of these heaters is based on using them 8 hours per day. If you use them 24 hours, it gets expensive, so the timer is great.

The thing I have learned from this brand is their heaters really don't heat up a room as it maintains a heated room depending on room size and if it's closed off. If you want a room heater that will cook you this isn't the brand that does it. I don't think that's plastic you're smelling as I think it's the coating on the heating coils that haven't completely burned off yet.

Thanks for the comments! Well said. On the other end of the cost spectrum I got a quote for a ductless unit to be installed in the 3 season room with no heat and that was $6K which I’m still shocked at. Granted pipes would need to be run from one side of the house to the other then up the wall but still sticker shocked. Something in the middle that, like you said, which can fully heat up an unheated room would be ideal.

@@puttothetest Sounds like you need something like a Midea 1500W Quartz Electric Space Heater or an oil heater.

This Vornado Velocity heater is a waste of money. It cannot heat a small room. Very weak.

Based on reviews it seems like a lot of these heaters are duds. I can't feel the one I bought unless my hand is 6 inches from the heater and the thermostat can't even break above 68 degrees. It even pushes out cold air around the edge. Gonna return the one I bought for sure, it's not worth $0 let alone $190

I am also not a fan of the plastic parts in these heaters. Seems like a gamble no matter which way you go. Maybe I just need to move south permanently and be done with the cold!
