Joslynn had a big extended family with step brothers and sisters, step aunts and cousins, grandparents, the whole family tree was full of step relatives. She spent a lot of time with her cousins and step cousins at their house.
On one visit she was watching tv with her step-cousins while the adults were all outside grilling barbecue for dinner - two young girls and an older boy. After watching for a while the two young girls went off to play, leaving her alone with the eldest boy.
He moved closer to her on the couch and then reached over and kind of put his arm around her. It was a little weird, and he started telling her how he thought she was so cool and so beautiful and things like that. Josylynn was only nine years old at the time and this boy was much older than her.
His compliments made her so uncomfortable, and his arm around her too, but she just sat there, not knowing what to do, and simply said, in a weak voice "umm, thanks. I guess."
But that wasn't the most uncomfortable or weirdest part. After a few more strange compliments, he actually leaned in and kissed her - a real kiss - not at all for a nine-year-old. And, being only nine, and being rather shy AND very freaked out, she just sat there. She should have said something, or gone right away to an adult and told them what had just happened, but she was scared, confused, and afraid, and, even though she felt weak about it, she didn't do anything or tell anyone.
Even after she got home, and after some time had passed, still, she didn't tell her mom about it. She couldn't explain quite why, but she felt like if she told her mother that she would be disgusted by it, that she wouldn't love her anymore and that ultimately she would just blame Joslynn for not doing anything about it right then and there when it happened. So, she just kept it to herself, a secret.
But, maybe because she didn't tell her Mom right away, it got harder and harder to find the right time to come clean and let her secret out, and because of that, it continued - that boy kept taking advantage of her in a way that she did not want him to.
The next time she went to her step aunt's house she was playing outside with the younger girls, then went inside to use the bathroom. While she was washing her hands that older boy step cousin stepped into the bathroom. She got anxiety as it got a little scary for her because she didn't feel safe.
He apologized for barging in, BUT, he didn't leave. In fact, he stepped closer to her, too close, and she had to put her hands up and push against his chest, trying to stop him from coming closer, but he just kept pushing into her. She was scared, and told him "No, I don't want to." But he pushed her hands away, told her to relax, that it was okay, that she wouldn't get in trouble.
He closed the door then, and kissed her again, and made her do things with him that she really didn't want to do. But she couldn't stop him, was too scared at that moment. This boy took real advantage of her. This just because one of those true stories she heard about but never wanted to be a part of.
Four years have passed and now Joslynn is thirteen years old. Her mother and stepfather have separated, and so, thankfully, she never has to see those step cousins or that awful boy again.
Even though she was happy that those terrible things were behind her, the guilt and shame and dark feelings were all still there - like somehow the whole thing was her fault and that she would have to be alone with those feelings her whole life.
It was always on her mind though, and so hard to keep secret and buried inside, and so, a few months ago when she was out to lunch with her mother, she decided to tell her mother, to share the secret once and for all. And, even though she was terrified and ashamed and embarrassed, she told her Mom everything that had happened. And her mom supported her in a big way, loving her no matter what. The Me Too Movement and Times Up Movement all address the issues brought forth in this story.

The saddest part of this story is that it's more believable than almost all other "true" animated stories

When I was 5 or 6 we had family friends and they had a 16 year old kid. One day when our our family’s were camping together he took me behind a bunch of big trees and bushes and told me to pull down my pants, I said no but he still did and said my parents wouldn’t care so he did and then he started touching my thing but his parents started coming around and he stoppped. This guy who was once a coach and janitor at my high school secretly abused kids back in the day in which the school allegedly hid.
He died in 1995, but a former student is now involved in a civil suit over the school hiding the abuse.

I am thinking of sharing my cousin's story here on storybooth to raise awareness for rape and abuse against girls. My cousin's is mentally challenged and has a difficulty talking and so they way she communicates with me is through her art. She is an amazing artist and it breaks my heart everyday on the horrors she had to endure. When my cousin was 15, she moved to a new school and was constantly bullied becuase of her speech and mental ability. Then a boy approached her and told her its going to be fine and that he will be her best friend. He was her best friend for about 3 years and then it happend. Usally when they are hanging out I am there incase my cousin needs anything. One day I had to go somewhere important, and her mom left her to go to her sister's house (which was two streets away) and she left her daughter with the boy alone as she believed she could trust him. I came to their house and found her in her bedroom naked with bedsheets covering her, sitting at the foot of the bed. She had bruises all over her body, and her eyes were red from crying. I rushed to her aid. I saw the boy on her bed shirtless sleeping and I swear to I would have gone to jail for murder if she hadn't held me back. I gave her water and asked her what had happend. She started crying again but she took out a pencil and drew what had happend during these hours. It was truly horrific what this bastard had done to her. I called her mom and told her what had happend and she came and we called the police and he got what he deserved.
If you have been rape or been through any sort of abuse, you need to speak up. By not speaking you are giving up and letting them win. I hope my cousin's story was an inspiration to those who are in the dark and don't want to share.

This to me also when i was 11, and he was in hes 70's i guess and it happened before christimas, so, i was just laying on the couch watching tv and this old man went out in his room and sit beside me and asking random questions about schools and staff and i felt uncomfortable, and then 10 seconds of silents, then he tell me that "this just between you and me, dont tell anyone about this", then he touch my chest and kisses me, and i just froze in shocked, then after that he ask me to go to his room, and i tell him that "i need to go I'll come in a minute", he said ok, then i rushed to room and stare into space and then cry.
And now im 14 years old and i havent tell my parents, because my parents are divorced and i dont know what to do cause I'm piece of trash :))

Yeah, it happens. Highschoolers are desperate. Most of the guys in my junior and senior year went after middle schoolers because "they're easy" sadly a lot of the middle schoolers went for them because "older cute boys" and ended up broken hearted with the virginity they once had gone. I didn't Know when I was younger but I was dating a sophomore when I was in 8th grade, he didn't do anything but if I had known what I do now, I would have never thought of high school guys back then, he turned out gay after dating me for over a year though and confessed he just was scared to come out to his parents so he used me as a cover because I was "hella cute." When I was 12 for the holidays we would vist my aunt. I had an older cousin who was 15 at the time. I really thought he was just an older brother to me. I remember when my mom would leave us for days with my aunt. My aunt had work and left me, my younger sister, my younger cousins, and HIM. I remember I stayed in a room on a computer watching videos and movies and I would remember when HE came in the room and sat next to me. I really thought HE was just trying to hang out. I remember laying down and feeling his hands on my thighs, waist, and breast. I would never tell him stop because I was a afraid to do anything. I remember one day HE took it too far and put his hands under my underwear. I remember acting in shock covering my face and crying. I never told nobody because I remembered how my mom would act disgusted and how dad blamed me for not doing anything. HE did this to me for a few years until he turned 18. Nobody else knows this but seeing and reading other people's stories helped me share mine.
