Ryan, I just wanted to thank you for helping me take the leap and start my tour. I am a high school dropout, 17, and am searching for direction and purpose. I thought that it would be awfully interesting to ride a bicycle across the U.S., as I have always wanted to the western half of this strange land. Then, while researching, I came across your unbearably beautiful, gorgeous soul that has done this sort of thing in the past. You have been incredibly encouraging. So, I decided to cycle from Midland, Michigan to L.A. Via Route 66. I terminated my apartment lease, gave away most of my possessions, and am currently resting in Grand Haven state park along the coast of Lake Michigan. Thank you so much for being apart of my journey and allowing us to be a part of yours. In these past 5 days on the road, I have learned and grown so much.
Never give up kid. I was just like you when I was 18 . Nothing but desire for adventures. I manage to have a beautiful life, and you will to. Learn to respect yourself and nature. The rest will come.
I am 60 and was stopped in March on a around the world bike trip that I was just starting. Well 5 months in. Everyday you learn new stuff on the road. Your senses become sharp. A mixture of adrenaline when a German shepherd dart at you around a corner, or screaming at the top of your lungs flying down a mountain pass. and the endorphin after hours of cycling in a trance. Remember to keep good intentions. Happy trails Carter.

Duzer thanks for the latest adventure. I am living vicariously through your adventures as i've had to take a break from the bike, due to a major whammy i took back in June. I wont be able to get back on the mt bike for almost another 8mths (broken neck, over the bars :( )...I vow to heed your call to adventure when i am fully healed..until then I will walk w reckless abandon...Keep up the good work...your inspiring a nation...

I sure am looking into this awesome bike, I am hesitating between this, a Kona Sutra or a Surly midnight special. Three wonderful bikes, but only one I,ll admit has that pinion gearbox, I'm so TORN!

Honestly, Kona Sutra is probably the best value touring bike on the market right now. But all 3 of the bikes you list are all pretty different things. I like Surly bikes. I have an Ogre and would like a MS. But I wouldn't take a Sutra or MS where this Priority mountain bike would go. A mountain bike with a near indestructible drive train is just difficult to compete with.
Fabulous!!!! Lots of horrible, ugly things that many people are dealing with in our country. The beauty in this first video has powerful healing in it. I hope it gets millions of views and settles some souls as it did for me tonight. Thank you, sir.

Just getting into cycling. Been riding my bike a Specialized Rockhopper Sport 29 about 5 times a week for about a month in a half. I never imagined I would enjoy it so much. Can’t get enough of your videos. I feel I can relate. Anyways thanks for the videos and keep them coming.
So weird: I’m Canadian, from Montreal. My last summer bicycle tour plan was to ride The Great Divide, from Banff to Mexico border. Already have my maps from Aventure cycling Ass. But... but. You're a wonderful inspiration. I've been a bike commuter (no car, no license) for nearly two decades. As a young man (i'm 56 now) I used to do organized century rides when I lived in California. But I never did any bike tours. I am about to turn 57 and on my birthday I am heading out for my first week long bike camping tour. Thanks for your part in my motivation. I'm pretty new to bikepacking but have been a backpacker for over 30 years and I know that nervous feeling before a really long hike very well! It is amazing how quickly it goes away as soon as you actually start.

I similarly started touring around the same time - in 2006 - & have now completed three extended tours (Which have included your Route 66 & The Lincoln Highway. I've had the GDMBR map set for many years & now looking at doing it, having previously past through them crossing through Rawlins & Flagstaff will be special. I remember the moment before I left for a cross-country tour. I shipped my bicycle down to a hotel outside Ft. Lauderdale and flew down. I put the bike all together in the hotel room, took it for a test spin, bought some provisions, and settled in for the night. In the morning, I geared up, packed up, and took one last look over my rig. That feeling of anxiety, concern, uncertainty, I have never felt that much all at once. 3 months later and 4000mi down the road and I made it from South Beach Miami to Mission Beach, San Diego.

I rode through Montana earlier this month from North Idaho...when I left home I had the same jitters....it was awesome after so many months at home. Cant wait to do the divide with my sister when the Canadian border opens (she lives in Canada)

FYI, please note that the border closure between the USA and Canada is a bilateral agreement between our countries and that Canadians aren’t allowed to go to the USA at this time either. Nice start to the BIG adventure, Ryan! I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you - online, that is. As for what you packed, I remember when I worked at a shop that sold bikes, an English bloke came in one day. He had ridden from Sydney and wanted something fixed on his bike. He said that he was heading to Perth, on the other side of our country AND he was carrying all his kit in a bag on his back! The 'kit' included a transistor radio - and not a small one! - that sat at the top of the back-pack, so he could listen to it, as he rode along. I have no idea whether he made it to Perth.

VERY happy you stuck with the helmet cam for this series! After watching the Tahoe Twirl series I was a bit worried you converted to chest cam but very pleased you went back to helmet cam. Much better views of the beautiful landscape!!!

Yeah, you could probably ride 80% of this route with no problems, but the other 20 would be rough

FYI, please note that the border closure between the USA and Canada is a bilateral agreement between our countries and that Canadians aren’t allowed to go to the USA at this time either. Hopefully it helps in preventing the spread of the virus. Have a wonderful trip!

Nice start to the BIG adventure, Ryan! I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you - online, that is. As for what you packed, I remember when I worked at a shop that sold bikes, an English bloke came in one day. He had ridden from Sydney and wanted something fixed on his bike. He said that he was heading to Perth, on the other side of our country AND he was carrying all his kit in a bag on his back! The 'kit' included a transistor radio - and not a small one! - that sat at the top of the back-pack, so he could listen to it, as he rode along. I have no idea whether he made it to Perth.
WOW! that is a huge radio to carry on your back. I guess we all carry that luxury item...mine is the shaver ;)

VERY happy you stuck with the helmet cam for this series! After watching the Tahoe Twirl series I was a bit worried you converted to chest cam but very pleased you went back to helmet cam. Much better views of the beautiful landscape!!!
