  • Millennium Actress, released in 2001, is the Sophomore effort of Director Satoshi Kon. Released 4 years after Pefect Blue, described as a "Sister" To the psychological thriller. Today I'll be going over how Satoshi Kon thought up this film, how it was made, and how it compares and improves on Perfect Blue's stylized Storytelling.

This is one of the most important and beautiful movies I have ever watched in my life. It has so many layers, one can do a PhD just on this movie. This is a tribute to the history of japanese cinema, this shows how Sensei Kon had an immese love for the media called 'cinema'. I cried almost everytime I watched it, and the last frame transition on the death bed of Chiyoko, is in fact one of the best scene transtions I have ever witnessed in any movie. It is a very very unique piece of art, and unfortunately, there will not be any more of this type of movie...RIP Sensei Kon...

Thanks for making this. It's one of my favourite films in general--I cannot pick a fav from Kon's work AT ALL. They are all equal. They are all so thematically and stylistically him, but so different in many ways. He was a genius.

This is the Kon film that sticks with me the most. I last watched it in February on my birthday, and I don’t think a day’s gone by since that I haven’t thought of it’s final scene, or how the film makes me feel.

Fun fact: this is the first film Susumu Hirasawa worked on with Satoshi Kon. You'll notice a pattern as he also worked with Kon on Paranoia Agent and Paprika.
