This is an instrumental arrangement of "Hollow", the Remake's vocal theme. Hollow is a new composition and actually Uematsu's only active contribution to the Remake OST. Hollow Skies was arranged by Yasunori Nishiki.
@@VolensxAstrum I thought I'm the only one who caught that, I've noticed that as well. Could it be just a coincidence or was it intentional? Uematsu typically borrows melodic lines from other games that have no connection whatsoever (FF6 Overture -> FF7 Those Who Fight Further, FF6 Relm's Theme -> FF8 Eyes on Me, FF8 Eyes on Me -> FF7R Tifa's Theme, FF8 The Man with the Machine Gun -> Fantasian Boss Battle 2, etc.). What he did here is actually pretty interesting if this was indeed intentional.

Hollow Skies, & later on, the lyrical version, Hollow are songs composed for the Remake, so they won't be in the OG. Rest assured that the gameplay shown is just an accompaniment over a static image. The soundtrack is synchronised & directed magnificently in the game, so I look forward to you even finding the cute little vinyls in the game that are remixed versions of the OST, & can be listened to on jukeboxes scattered throughout the game.
This one might not be as complex or bombastic as Airbuster, Jenova or One Winged Angel, but it definitely sticks out as one of my favorites from the entire OST.
It feels very raw and intimate, sad in a way, but very hopeful, which will definitely make sense once you get to playing the game!

This song is new to ff7 and it plays in only one place (so far) in the game. When you first listen to it you don't think it has that much importance but then when you listen to "Hollow" and read the lyrics you begin to understand why is there. It's a song with so much meaning and it adds even more when you know the story of the game and its main characters, specifically Cloud.
Every piece of music in this game is meaningful in its own way. This one reminds me so much of Zack and Crisis Core. Btw I can't believe no one requested Aerith's theme yet. It's a legendary one.

You have a knack for picking out emotions and thoughts music is trying to express. I think it would be so interesting see what you get out of the lyrical version, without any prior context from the game or dev/composer interviews.
Hollow is technically played during the game, so it counts as VGM music in my book.
I would still look and see if it's DMCA or not. Only because Yosh is singing on the track. That may be tricky, but it could also be totally fine because it's VGM lol
This is honestly one of my favourites from the FF7R OST. I'd just spend ages walking around the town to listen to the music.

I found myself humming this song a lot after playing through remake. It's surprisingly catchy for how somber it can feel a times.

This should be your second time listening to Yasunori Nishiki's work. The first being "One-Winged Angel - Rebirth". Yes, he was the co-composer and the arranger for that. For "Hollow Skies", he took the main theme originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu and made a chill field theme, for the location seen in the video.

This is newly composed for the remake. Because the remake only covers the begining portion of the original game (remake part 2 is still in the works) a new theme was needed to represent just this part of the game.
The way I see it, the reason this piece sounds so much like a lullaby is because the chapter deals with a lot of the themes you would put in one. I won't go into spoilers here, but there is a big emphasis here on innocence, memories, childlike desires and fears. It's a calm space crushed in between two incredibly frantic sections, and there is a sort of sense here of that. The simple, acoustic tune over the heavy, distant percussion matches the feeling of the small sanctuary under the giant metal city that is this location.

Another great acoustic guitar song from FF that comes right to mind is "The Sight of Spira" from FFX
Oh no, that track ending was so ... unexpected :( I really love the vocal version of the song which is also the ending theme of the first episode of FF7R ... this track always makes me so melancholic and I love it!
There's a lot of songs in FF7R that straight up bring me to the verge of tears every time. I'm not even a massive fan of 7 specifically, but this game captures all of the nostalgic emotions very well with it's legendary soundtrack and composition team.
This version of "Hollow" always makes me cry ngl (not to say I haven't cried to the lyrical version, of course I have) but there's something about its sound combined with context for what's happening story-wise that brings me to tears when I hear it.

Yasunori Nishiki, the guy in charge of the arrangement of this track (Uematsu wrote the vocal version this is based on), is insanely talented, and one of my favorite VGM composers in recent times. I hope you get around to checking out some Octopath Traveler music at some point. It's phenomenal.

While I’m a longtime fan of the original FFVII and it’s OST, this is easily my favorite piece of the remake’s OST.

I was fortunate enough to go to the FFVII Remake World Tour (RAH in London), and was already emotionally wrecked towards the end. Then they performed Hollow (the end credits version with vocals) and it pretty much destroyed me. Simply the best musical experience I've ever had.
From my observations of the OST and being a major fan of the series and its bigger spinoffs, I'd say that the original game definitely had a major lack of acoustic guitar (or just guitar in general, whether due to the PS1's synthesizer usage or not I'm not sure). In one of the bigger spinoffs though, it plays a major role in the theming of that game, and in FFVII Remake specifically, is almost completely alone as a somber acoustic track in a 200+ track OST, with the game utilizing countless string and piano arrangements throughout.
Needless to say, given its instrumental exclusivity within the OST of this game and the original... it's a pretty major part of the game's identity even though it stands in stark contrast with the rest of the OST, for reasons I won't divulge. It's a very relaxing, yet intense track. Looking forward to your stream of this lovely game!
Funfact: you probably could find out what kind of guitar was used. Square is known for having lots of concerts for thier game soundtracks, just gotta catch thier orchestra in person and eyeball the instruments lol

Would love to see your reaction to "Maria and Draco" from FF VI. While there are multiple versions of this Nobuo Uematsu-written OPERA available, my favorite is from Distant Worlds V. It combines multiple sequential tracks (from the SNES) into one full-length performance. That, and being performed by a full symphony complete with vocalists, it's worth it to experience something on the fringes of what's considered video game music.
If you'd like a more appropriate-intentional lullaby from Final Fantasy, try listening to Sultana Dreaming from the FFXIV soundtrack.

Yeah I do wish this had been a dual react with the vocal variant called Hollow following things. Not a spoiler, but this is kind of a chill moment in all the intensity of the story so the whole lullaby feeling is apt.

Ah shit, here we go again.
FF7 Remake is probably not the best way to first expose yourself to the FF7 story. I don't want to go into details, but one thing I can say is that it's incomplete. You should at least play the original up until the end of the first disc before playing the Remake.
Not a fan of Hollow, its the only piece from the remake that I couldn't vibe with, it sounds out of place to me and doesn't feel like it belongs in FF7, maybe FF8 or FF10, but not FF7.
