I hated Indian bikes and hated them being revived, but I liked Victory. I said I would have liked to have seen Victory tradition into what Indian is, but they could not have done it. However now I like what Polaris has done with Indian and think the Scout looks great which is essentially this bike. I love the Indian line and they stick to the classic look and give way more bang for the buck than Harley. Never thought it would happen, but I am on a brand new Indian Challenger and love it.

Came back outside to leave and there 4 guys standing around my bike. One guy excitedly ask "Man are you trading this in?" I said "No way". His look sad the said "You want to sell it?" Lets clear up about the whole Scout/Octane thing. The Scout actually started life as the "Octane version 1." Then Polaris re-badged it as the Scout for the 2015 model year. They then went back and did more development on the Octane and made changes that made it into the "Octane version 2" which is the bike we have today. So for all those that are saying it is basically a Scout, well it is the other way around. The Scout is basically an Octane!
Oh and both models were made side by side in the same plant. They are sibling bikes.

So, the trade off to being the first one at the end of the quarter mile is the fact that you have to shift all the time. I would rather have a 4 speed. Every twin sounds like a lawnmower to me except the Harley. Some are louder than others, but they all have the same kind of sound to me, except for the Harley. I just can't get over it. If I could get over that, I think I would really like a Scout 60. However, with the Scout I would have to give up that wonderful performance that comes right off of idle. It doesn't stay there forever, but it is there, right off of idle. I don't know of anything else that beats Harley power (per displacement) right off of idle. So, do I want to ride low rpm or high rpm? If I can have my choice, I will do my riding at low rpm.

I was so upset when I found out they stopped victory. They were my favorite bikes. I definitely liked them much more than Harley’s. I have a 2004 Victory Vegas with the original 92ci motor and I absolutely LOVE it with the victory performance exhaust on it it’s one of the best sounding bikes I’ve ever heard and that’s the one thing I hear most often from others. It has torque for days but there are two huge problems with it that I wish I could have changed the first was the fact that those earlier Victory’s had a 5 speed transmission I wish it had a 6th so bad on the highway if I’m cruising at 90mph which is my preferred cruising speed the RPM is just sounds too high for my comfort and I always wish I had a sixth gear to shift into at those times. But the main problem which is actually a Major problem I found out is common with those early victory’s is they are prone to clutch failure as in the clutch cable ripping and then your clutch lever being useless and you basically have no clutch. It happened to me once like 200 miles from my house I was on the highway getting ready to get off on the exit I pulled in the clutch to downshift and the clutch just ripped imagine being in the middle of nowhere and just losing your clutch. I found out that’s happened to a lot of people with that bike. I still have the bike but I’m worried about taking it certain places and I lube the clutch cable regularly now with that little device meant for it. Obviously a perfect solution for that problem would be to simply put on a hydraulic clutch system as opposed to cable. My favorite Victory besides the Octane is the Hammer my dream bike would be the newest Hammer available with the 106ci motor in all blacked out I love that fat rear tire on it. I have a 2020 Indian Scout Bobber the 1200 and the matte black Paint on it is turning out to be a nightmare but i absolutely love that bike so much so hearing you compare it with the octane made me want to ride one so bad. Personally for my taste the exhaust on the one you had was a bit too quiet other than that I loved it.

Loved this machine when it came out, great bike, good price. The year victory closed its doors was the year I was on the fence and leaning towards Victory cross country tour instead of Indian or going back to Kawasaki for a big touring v twin. So bummed, bought a well used Indian Roadmaster, very reliable bike but it was more a fair weather bike than I realized initially, and the brand got too expensive for me. Looking back I should have bought a new Victory and got all the bells and whistles, it’d still be in my garage today, unlike the Indian.

Wrong there are loads of aftermarket parts for all victorys. Thats a very common misconception, until u get one and realise parts are not a problem at all. And this is coming from a guy with a victory highball and a victory cross roads. Never had issues finding parts and iam on the other side of the world in Australia.

I have a Sportster 1200 and an Indian scout. My biggest complaint with the Indian is that the 6th gear is too buzzy at 70+mph. The Sportster is smoother at 70+mph by a long shot (I did replace the front and rear suspension on the Sportster)

Not even close! My buddy just bought a 2021 Vulcan 650s and it can hardly keep up with my Octane. I let my buddy ride it as soon as we got home after the dealership and he enjoyed my bike more as well. I love Shawn just like the next guy, but he overestimates the 650s. It is a great, fun bike to ride, but no where near as quick as the Octane.

I really haven't had much problem getting parts for my old kingpin deluxe, although i haven't really needed much and the aftermarket has been pretty good as well. Got a Barnett cluch cable for it, works smooth too. Stock one did break?! Mine is the old 92 inch, good power with pipes and fuel controller. Love that bike.

Victory motorcycles are awesome. I think some of the reasons Victory didn't do as good as they could have at least in my area is because when you walked into a Victory dealer in my area, they acted as it pained them for you visited their store. My local Harley Davidson dealer was always nice and would have free lunches and treat everyone that walked in the door. Me not being a real big Harley person ended up buying a Road King. The bike was pretty good but then the engine ran like crap and I didn't even put a 1000 miles on it. My next bike is going to be a Yamaha Road Star.

If i had to compare it to something it would be like riding an older vmax but a little more nimble with the v-twin sound. Only complaint was the seat, switched to a mustang and its a night and day difference. This is not a touring bike but me and the wife can ride it all day no problem.

Maybe all these liquid-cooled bikes were too early. Now that us Millenials are starting to have a little money, we want to buy bikes, but we're practicable. I know they're out there, but I wish there were more options for liquid-cooled cruisers. I don't think I've heard a bad thing about Victory, which is why I'm a little confused about why they didn't keep the line. When I talk to people about Indian, I don't get that great of a response. I think they are cool, but I wish they had more style. Sometimes I see an Indian and I just drool, but many of the stock bikes don't really get me like HD. HD is cool, but their market doesn't allow them to move with the times. Yeah, I think that air-cooled engines look cooler, but I think I can adapt to the look of liquid-cooled cruisers.

i read that , the reason polaris stopped producing the victory line up . . . was because they refused to change the engine. . . as in reduced cc'c . . . and increased cc'c with those very strong engines.
if they had stayed making them, H-D would have been out of business.
interesting bike you have there , looks good, sounds good , is good . . . no need in changing perfection huh ? . . lol
with those bikes, stock is always best.

My friend and i rode these at a victory demo day. Rode the gunner then the octane. He left with an octane, i left wanting an octane. All of the other victorys felt lazy, the octane had us giggling like idiots. I have to admit though, on longer trips the octane punishes me -- feels like rear suspension is too stuff or not enough padding in the seat.
