@@n0xxm3rcyxx I'm going through it right now. I bought a new ram Rebel just a few days before covid. My job went remote as did my wife's. Fast forward two years and my wife wants a new car. I met her at the dealership and the salsesman offered me 10k more than I paid for my truck. So I traded it in and we've just shared her car for some years now. I got the itch to get a new truck but knew the ranger raptor and new tacomas were coming. Decided to go with a 24 trd pro( so not listening to my own advice) but waiting for years now all together has been tough. I recently also smoked a deer in my wife's car so we just are borrowing her dad's old truck at the moment because we don't know how long parts will take to get it.

People would call me insane but I traded my ‘21 Ram Rebel 12 for a ‘23 Pro4x and I couldn’t be happier. The Ram was decked out in tech and it was insanely comfortable. It was a beautiful, aggressive looking truck and I absolutely love Rams. But, it had so much tech that it ceased feeling like a pickup. It was also more truck than I need, in that I no longer need a full sized pickup (however, I did need a full size in the past). So, I decided to down size that the fact that the Pro4X has just enough tech to keep things simple and comfortable, but also has hydraulic steering and I’m fairly certain hydraulic gas and brake, it feels like a pickup should. The only complaints I have is the lack of power folding mirrors (which, most mid size trucks don’t have them so that’s whatever), the lack of a telescopic steering wheel, and the position of the power seat controls. The only real “problem” in this list are the seat controls. They’re so close to your hip that you may unknowingly hit them getting in and out of the truck. If it feels like your seat is moving around, you’re not crazy, it is. It’s a known problem with these trucks. And unfortunately, Nissan’s “solution” is to just pop the caps off the controls lol. I mean, it works so, whatever I guess. Other than that, this is one of my favorite vehicles that I’ve ever owned and I look forward to loading it down with miles over many years. I’ve had many comments on it while I’m out. People seem to love the way it looks.

That's actually a pretty nice truck, outside and inside. I like how the infotainment screen is blended into the dash, it's not styled like someone propped up an iPad and called it a day. The removable sidesteps is an interesting option. Like you mentioned, the new Tacomas don't have a V6 anymore, just a 4-cyl turbo, so those lose big points in my book.

Most people don’t off road. Most people barely even tow anything - maybe they’ll get some lumber a few times a year. Most trucks that I see are nothing more than pavement princesses.
That’s why I laugh at people driving around in spotless Tacomas with snorkel kits, mud runners and a lift kit - just so they can drive back and forth to work.
I own a 2016 Frontier - it tows my 4000 pound camper every year through 100 miles of old rugged, muddy logging roads. It’s got 170,000 miles on it and it doesn’t need a thing. It’s a gas pig and has the technology of an Atari, but it’s simple and it works. Plus it is significantly less expensive than a Tacoma and doesn’t have the obnoxious fan boy that the Yotas have.
For reference, I owned a 2000 Tacoma 2.7 L 4WD manual trans. I absolutely loved it. It was a simple machine and as a young guy in my early 20’s (this was almost 20 years ago) it treated me well. I took it fishing/camping, in the mud, up mountains and thru tons of snow. Then the frame rotted and Toyota bought it back from me for 150% of KBB value.
Moral of the story - unless money isn’t an issue and you’re a hardcore outdoor enthusiast who NEEDS a hardcore machine, a Frontier will serve 95% of most peoples needs.

Got a 2023 Pro4x premium package a couple months ago. It's a nice truck but definitely not perfect. I've owned 2 previous gen Frontiers so I have a lot of experience with the platform and this redesign isn't all that different, as far as driving dynamics. It's more evolution than revolution which is ok. The biggest problem with the new truck is the transmission's aggressive downshifting on the highway. I cruise on the highway everyday for nearly 2 hrs back and forth to work and, even on the slightest incline, the transmission downshifts violently, sometimes hitting 6000rpm, when literally no downshift is even needed. It's the most ridiculous and infuriating thing about this truck because it wastes fuel for no damn reason. It's just really stupid shift mapping and Nissan needs to address it, but they're ignoring it so far. Very annoying!

    • @bobdelmar9569

I find that going up a steep hill from a traffic light the tranny seems to not shift to the next gear when it should--but my 2020 did the same thing---dealer tested and said it was OK......shifting should be by rpms/speed and not incline. Gimmea manual shift anyday.
The 23 pro4xx is a very good truck.

They need a Nismo Pro 4x to compete with the Raptor Ranger, ZR2, AT4 and Trail hunter, maybe with a 2-3" lift, bigger more aggressive tires and some other off road goodies.
I'm in a 2019 Colorado with a leveling kit and 32" tires and I considered buying the new Colorado Trailboss but the turbo only in the Chevy/GMC, Ford and Toyota isn't for me. When that Turbo goes bad it costs nearly what a long block does and in the GM off road twins it returns 3MPG less rated fuel Economy than this Nissan so I'm disappointed with their design choices. I wanted the 4.3 V6, yes I'm getting old.

The view of the back was fast but it looks like a 60/40 split. Can it fold both down and up? What is storage like? As someone who's living with a 19 Tacoma and a 23 Frontier now for about 7 months. Its a marginally better vehicle. Once the new vehicle appeal wears off you notice that this is just a facelift for nissan, with the exception of the trans and engine. Definitely lacks a fun factor compared to the taco but that could just be that the new frontier feels like a heavier version of every other crossover on the road now. Also hot take, the taco has comfier rear seats. Despite more leg room the frontier has a more upright seating position which is not great for long trips. The 3.8 just like the 3.5 is not great on gas, and even worse the frontier has a smaller gas tank than the taco, very frequent fuel stops. Dont get me started on the turning radius either.
This being said, i do like this vehicle alot, and it looks gorgeous (we have the tactical green colour), brakes really nicely, has a larger bed and was cheaper than a comparable taco (SV premium trim). My take is its a more modern taco, that had a smaller development budget but was used better to focus on features that folks want. If i were a new buyer i would take this one over the taco, but this is not worth selling your current taco to buy.

time 9:47 - Did you say this " old 3 . liter V6 is a pretty old engine..." ? I agree V6 engines have been around awhile, technically so have turbo charged 4 cylinder engines. Am I wrong , there were a lot of engineering changes to the new 3.8 liter nissan engine ( compared to the old 4.0 ), at least, that is what Dick Madden, chief engineer ( Nissan ) was proud of. I'm not as excited at the new 4 cylinder / EV type engines as mush as e.g. Motor Trend seemed to be. I for one am not ready for the new EV generation. Old school, I guess.
Motor Trend said this: " We all agreed the new Nissan Frontier is a solid truck that is good at doing basic trucky things, but there is nothing new or groundbreaking about how it does them. Even the 310-hp engine, a mostly new 3.8 liter V-6 introduced in the 2020 Frontier, is virtually obsolete compared to the turbocharged, electrified, and all-electric powerplants found in other TOTY contenders. With only a lockable rear diff to augment its simple low-range transfer case, the Frontier Pro-4X model we tested struggled to put power to the ground on the sandy off-road course. "It feels more like a 15-year-old truck resculpted to resemble a 2021 truck than a modern vehicle built with modern parts," senior editor Alex Kierstein said. " Not sure I agree with Motor Trend. Everyone to their own opinion.
