    I also made those with the pen tool. You can start with a small circle, zoom way in, then create another filled shape on top to add the teardrop-style point. Select both shapes and merge them into a single path using the Shape Builder tool.

    Not exactly, since they came about in version CS5. However, you could try to achieve something similar using brushes. Select a stroke and then "apply" a brushstroke to it by clicking an Art Brush in the brushes panel. Search the library for brushes with tapered ends. Cut the stokes like I showed in the part of the video with the frames. It's different than the CS5 way, but I hope that helps!

    I don't think there is anything easier than using a font. Drawing lettering with the Pen Tool (or other drawing tools in Illustrator) is very time consuming, but the advantage in Illustrator is that you get editable paths. You can also scan in a hand drawing and Image Trace it - faster, but a little less editable.

    Hi Laura, me again. May I ask your advice on a related subject? Is there a favorite font you like to use as a starting base for curvy, stylized type? Manly men designers like me, ha ha, are good with the big, bold, grungy stuff, but just terrible when it comes to flowing curves. I need something that will hold up as logo type, so I guess it shouldn't be too delicate. Thoughts? Thanks!

    Hi Laura, brilliant tutorial, is it possible to have a repeated shape on the swirls, kinda like a ribbon with a pattern on it instead of a solid color? Kinda like a blend of a shape along the swirl but with variable thicknesses along the swirl?

    • @LauraCoyle
      @LauraCoyle  Před 10 lety

      You could use a pattern brush for this. Select the path, apply the pattern brush to the path. Then, if you want to use the width tool to make parts of the design wider or narrower, you can do that after the pattern is applied to the path.

    Hello Laura, thank for this amazing and helpful tutorial. I'm using a CS4 illustrator and I have a doubt when I create my own brushes they look pixelated and yours not. I've check the Anti-aliasing but nothing work. I have made some questions in other places but nobody has the answer. I thought it was my screen but is not because I have compared my brushes with clip arts that I bought and use the same brush art and they're perfect. Please could you help me. I feel frustrated ;( because I have not found the answer. Thank you in advance ;)

    • @LauraCoyle
      @LauraCoyle  Před 9 lety

      Isa L. It's hard to know from what you are describing, I would have suggested checking Anti-Aliasing in Preferences, but since that is not the problem... if you are using a brush with any Effects applied, it could be the document effects settings. If you go to Effects> Document Effects Settings and increase the resolution, you won't see the pixels in the effects you are using.

    • @isal.8420
      @isal.8420 Před 9 lety

      Laura Coyle No, I'm sorry that does not work. my lines look pixelated, I reset all my preferences, I've check and unchecked the anti aliasing, The pixelated looks more in the rounded areas. I really feel frustrated, I just want my draws look clean and clear as others.
