I had forgotten Judy Carne co-starred before she became the "Sock It To Me" girl on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. Thank you for posting. ME TV or Antenna TV should show this and Love American Style.

A GREAT Bernard Slade-created sitcom that didn't have a chance against either "PETTICOAT JUNCTION" on CBS [Tuesdays, 9:30pm(et)] or ''THE CBS THURSDAY NIGHT MOVIES" (in mid-season [9:30pm]) during the 1966-'67 season. The primary sponsor was R.J. Reynolds {Salem}, with "participating" sponsors {including Warner-Lambert's "Certs"} sustaining the alternate weeks. Hank Simms is the announcer...incidnetally, there were TWO themes heard during the series [the second was more "urban", and up-tempo].

    I love 1960s television shows.

It was a far, far better thing then, then there is today! Only 3 networks (ABC/CBS/NBC), and maybe you had an Independent station also in your local listings! But the shows were magnificent, even the ones you didn't like or watch (ex, drama, variety, or comedy), their quality was high and the scripts, actors/actresses were better than most of the present era (2020-present). Re-boots of 1960s-1980s shows way too prevalent now that show how schocky tv shows have become in going progressively downhill since the mid-late 1970s, or if you want to push it, the mid-1980s!

On my list of favorite short-lived sitcoms of all time (and I have a huge list... and growing...) this ranks right at the top. In fact, if I were to name the top three short-lived sitcoms of the 1960's, it would be, in order, "He and She", "Good Morning World", and "Love On a Rooftop" (tied with "Occasional Wife").

Good for you to also recognize "Occasional Wife" (NBC, 30-episodes that same season as LOAR, also a one-season sitcom.

Whatever happened to CERTS peppermints candy breath freshener? One of my favorite '60s commercials: "Gives you two, two, two mints in one!"

That Girl may have had low ratings , but it had that show business dynamo, Danny Thomas ! His show biz knowledge, his inside connections( the vetaran entertainers like Ethel Merman ), his deep pockets ( Marlo's Daisy Productions ) to make up for ratings and sponsors . That gave Marlo Thomas the opportunity to perform. She had backing that other journeymen actresses did not have in their sitcoms. Come to think of it where would Lucille Ball be without Desi Arnaz or MTM without Grant Tinker?

It was really too bad that this show didn't last, it was a good show. I think it came on at 9:30 at night so it was set up more for the adult TV watcher. I forgot that petticoat juction was on the same time. My mom and my older bother prefered this show, I was like10 and liked P/ Juction, but Mom decieded I should be in bed that late, so they got to watch this! It really was a good show, I saw it later in syndication!

I watched it as a teen, and enjoyed the romance of the two characters. 1966-67 was a marvelous tv year, as was the previous two (1964-65, 1965-66), and the next one after (1967-68). for some of the best free entertainment you could get without leaving you house! 1966-67 also featured a stunning actress, in another one-year (30-episode) comedy: "Occasional Wife" (Sep. 1966-Aug. 1967) starring Michael Callan (died in Oct. 2022, at 86) and the gorgeous blonde Patricia Harty (then 24 before her Nov. 5 b-day in '66; now 82). They actually married in real-life, with their on-screen chemistry very obvious it led to the real thing. Alas, the marriage lasted only 2 years (1968-70), but their tv series was a fun one to watch on NBC. Vin Scully, voice of the L.A.Dodgers, got the honor to do the narration.

@@freeguy77 I always liked Michael Callan, glad he had a long life.
Gosh 3 or 4 channels and TV was fabulous back then

Interestingly That Girl had lower ratings than Love On A Roof Top did in 1966--yet That Girl was renewed and ran 5 full seasons-Love On A Roof Top only lasted one season.
