Leaving Twitter for Meta seems like a lateral move.
A lateral move to continue being ridiculously well paid to do very little in the city you already live in, instead of being unceremoniously fired in 4 weeks.
Except I guess Meta engineers might have to work more than twitter engineers. Facebook and Messenger at least go through different iterations from time to time, and Instagram sometimes even introduces new features that work (Reels).

Twitter subscription can learn something from Discord Nitro: 240 character count increased to 1000, edit button, a badge that shows next to verification, no ads / sponsored tweets, cherry-pick specifically what genres/tags you do/don’t want to see in Trending tab…

Twitter Blue should be a news subscription. News subscriptions are wildly expensive, and you have to buy a different subscription for every publication. If you could pay for Twitter Blue and get access to a certain number of articles from every publication, that would be awesome!
Meanwhile there are news outlets trying to sell you on a 12 USD a year plan, desperate for any regular income. But yes, news are expensive
I suppose you could also divide it into regional plans given that news local for your state should be more interesting to you and should be cheaper than something concerning the whole USA, or all of Europe, and so on. And, of course, a Worldwide tier would be the most expensive, but worthwhile for someone who needs proper deep dives into everything international, local, and local outside of his home country
Good journalism cannot be funded by the "wildly expensive" prices even - they have to be funded by advertisers and clickbait to barely break even - so I'm not sure how that business model makes sense
@@pleepler I'm a journalist, I understand that reporting is expensive and that journalists aren't paid enough as it is. I just identified a gap in the market, and a target audience for Twitter. Twitter clearly likes being an aggregate for news stories, and people are clearly in need of an aggregate news subscription

I think it could work if Twitter pitched that some revenue was greater than no revenue, and that Twitter would be buying in bulk. This is why news websites like NYT offer institutional subscriptions at reduced prices...
@@SuperMustache555 And it's a pretty good gap, I know that there were some experiments here and there, and Apple has a service just like it, so it's a bit of a no-brainer to go for it when Google is trying to oppose it. Especially when it's not limited to Apple's ecosystem

I think the only way he's able to rationalize letting twitter go is if someone else is willing to overpay for it nearly as much as he did, and i don't see that happening. He has too much ego to admit defeat over something this public. He's gonna go down with this ship.

I don't think that graph at 10:02 is super relevant because its users worldwide. But everything apps are usually very local like wechat is only really used in China and Kakao is only used in Korea, so as as long as the twitters user base is mainly from NA, which seems to be the case those numbers aren't that bad for a base for an everything app.
I think the difference here is those are kind of "isolated" communities. China is China, and korea is pretty self contained with its 5 mega corp setup. Western culture goes beyond just NA, it has Europe, Oceania, etc. Its a much more complex balancing act to achieve what he wants to with these aspects in mind
@@morganharrison8644 Kakao in Korea was an indy app not affiliated with any of the existing mega corps but still managed to come out on top so twitter definitely has a shot. Western culture may be very diverse but Twitter only needs to focus on NA. The reason everything apps don't expand beyond their borders is because it offers so many services and has so much control over day to day lives foreign governments don't like any foreign thing to have that much control. So if twitter becomes an everything app it probably won't be for EU, or Oceania. Even outside of government intervention the legal headache of doing "everything"(payment, ride share, shopping...etc) internationally is just not reasonable to do for even any other existing company today. Amazon is massive and it doesn't even do "everything".
