  • After visiting Tillicoultry a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to return to the Ochils to check out the next town in the foothills, Alva!
This place does not disappoint, a vibrant busy high street with lots of history and if that wasn't enough, ALva glen is out of this world- not to be missed!

The derelict building that you saw on the main street before heading into the cochrane park was the old Glentana Mill buidling..some info here...
The Glentana Mill was built in 1873 as the Dalmore Works and specialised in the production of shawls, tweeds and tailor made ladieswear. The current single storey building is all that remains of a much larger complex and dates from the 1940s. In the 1990s the building was home to the Mill Trail Visitors Centre and was vacated in January 2019 when the then tenant relocated.

Brilliant! Stirling Street was done up recently so is looking really good. Really enjoyed this.

You should come and visit Menstrie next! Some amazing walks along here too. In fact the park where u finished ur video in Alva has a lovely walk along the back road all the way to Menstrie. Some amazing views if u head up the hills from Menstrie Main Street x

The third town is Menstrie. It has a castle! And together, for some reason, they're called the Hillfoots (not the Hillfeet or the Foothills). Thanks for another great video.

the building all boarded up used to a an old ‘mill trail’ progressed into a place where you could buy school clothes for the area. next to that was a bike shop and on the corner used to be a coffee shop! it’s been closed for about 2/3 years now
