  • In what has become my biggest production to date, I'm proud to release this epic hour long show!
Working alongside the Great Central Railway, they kindly invited me to capture a behind the scenes look at the Railway.
I Spent to day on the footplate of the BR Standard 5 '73156' under the watchful eye of Driver Martyn & fireman Anthony (also the owner of my local Model railway shop 'Tonys Trains' in Rugby)
1 Steam Engine, 10 Camera's, 2 Drones, shot over 4 days with over 85 man hours put into capturing the 33 hours of film taken, This is really one not to be missed!
    Viewer digression advised:
All footage was filmed with full permission from the Railway or landowners where applicable. This film was filmed over a period of days and edited for this video, all views and expressions in the film are not necessarily representative of the Railway and produced for entertainment value only.

Loco Fireman from Australia here, What the crew was saying about preserving it all and passing it on is something we preach down here as well, these railways are our homes this our culture our livelihoods our families legacy, I pour my heart and soul into keeping my home depot alive and id damn well off myself if it went away.
The Production of this is very high quality as well, despite knowing almost everything the fireman was talking about it was still enjoyable and I didn't get bored at all.

Absolutely fist class Richard. The GCR is reasonably close to where I live and I have visited it many times and watched it grow over the past thirty years. It was well put together from start to finish and what a great loco and crew to share the experience with. Thank you for sharing.

Michael Portillo and Chris Tarrant have got some fair competition now for railway documentaries, that was excellent Richard. Great in depth look into what it is required in getting a steam locomotive out on the rails, really top quality there mate. Don’t know how you’re going to top that one but I’m sure that you’ll raise the bar a notch again. You and Dave from Dean Park Station could easily produce something together, his interviewing technique with Simon Kohler was first class and your eye for action and camera angles, marriage made in heaven! 👍🏻😀

Late seventies my summer holiday job from studying at N staffs polytechnic, was as train driver, two foot gauge line, at Trentham gardens.
All the points were set to run all day without resetting, station run around and the run around at the other end of the lake.
The only reset was to put the engine back in the shed at night.
Dunrobin was an 060, Perkins 4.27 diesel steam outline loco, built by Bagnalls in Stafford, happy days

Quite right or K3 as it is in the GCR rulebook, I had forgotten to name it in my 'commentary'! We were there for less than two minutes so there was no need to contact the 'box.
