Finally someone did a Deftones vid with the new JMP Preamp in Amphub! Sounds killer too man! If you've ever watched Sonic Drive Studio's video on the AXE FX tone, the Ownhammer IR NAILS it. Cheers!
hearing your accent reminds me of growing up and how thick my accent used to be when i was younger. i've been in england so long that my accent is basically gone :(
I do a sort of Korn-style guitar tone in this video. But its really a more generic Nu Metal style tone. But it might help. czcams.com/video/WRvdsgAQYNQ/video.html
Late comment, but I think (at least live) that dist/clean tone was done by Chino or Steph using a Sparkle drive (tube screamer clone) the sparkle drive has a blend knob that you can blend a driven and clean pass through sound, and chino had it in his board at that time.
Great replication! No hate here, just wanted to ask, it still sounds kinda bassy...? Kinda distant? I don't really know how to explain it, but when you listen to it at the very beginning, you can hear it
thanks for the vid! I am very much a beginner in all senses and am currently using logic....hopefully I'd be able to use this tutorial for the logic software...If not, if anybody has suggestions for what presets on logic I could use feel free to comment :)
There are a lot of octave in the Self-titled, specially in Hexagram ! The main riff: -02xx00 2x4 -4x6x00 -5x6x00. The 2nd riff is also mainly octave. You don't sound like Deftones if you play power chords like you do.
Haha, first I need to figure out how to do that. I can export out the Impulse from MIKKO, but no idea on how to capture the amp tone as well. If you got suggestions, let me know
Hey kinda new to the amp sim thing. could I incorporate my Boss SD1 pedal to bounce back and forth between the heavy and clean tones if im playing with some friends and not using recording software?
I'm using Studio One and a bunch of plugins. I really like the workload in Studio One. There's a 30 day demo. So you can try it out and see what you think of it.
@@GaryHiebner and man why don't You consider to do maybe with both free and payed plugins like maybe amped roots or djent God that are both free and another payed plugin

You nailed the tone, it sounds super thick
Thanks Stefan!
I love this tone! Really selling me on switching back to that Marshall-driven sound!
I’d love to see you do one for Invent Animate! I think your playing would sound great with their riffs and it might be super fun for you!
Great suggestion. Will definitely check into this.
Amazingly accurate!! I did with a guitar effects processor but it worked as good!! Nailed it man, keep up the good work
Thanks. Glad it worked on a guitar effects processor as well.
That was spot on! Every time you've played I felt like one more second and I'll hear Chino's voice
Haha, glad you enjoyed it
Amazing!! The self-titled is my favorite and you absolutely nailed it. So good!
Thanks. Yeah the Self titles is an amazing album
Eyy fellow South African! Glad to see a South African Deftones fan
Yes!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed. Yeah I've seen his channel and watched his video where he uses a real JMP-1. It was great
which ownhammer IR
OVERLOUD TH-U Rigplayer also has the Choptones Brit J-1 library. If you select the right profile you get there too.

Haha, glad you recognized the South African accent. Funny how many people comment on my accent. To me it just sounds normal :)
Great tone and great job utilizing other cabs to get the best tone.
Thanks. Yeah had to find other cab options that weren't in Amphub
Wow, dude! You nailed it again! What about the KoRn guitar tone? The Follow the Leader type of sound is still magic to me
Haha, thats on the list. Also on the list is a Slipknot tone. Stay tuned......
@@GaryHiebner Great! Looking forward to it

@@GaryHiebner Yeah, i know this video. Great overall Nu Metal tone. But the one from FTL still seems more special to me.
Life Is Peachy I thought was by far their best tone
Late comment, but I think (at least live) that dist/clean tone was done by Chino or Steph using a Sparkle drive (tube screamer clone) the sparkle drive has a blend knob that you can blend a driven and clean pass through sound, and chino had it in his board at that time.

Best "sound like Deftones" video on youtube :)
Man, isn't the MMM1 just the most beautiful guitar ever made?
Yip it is. I sold it about a year ago. And now I'm regretting it :(
@@GaryHiebner Nooooo, man I feel you! Money means nothing! Art is all there is
Yeah sold it cos wasnt using it as much. And wanted some other gear. But yeah now regret it. If see another one pop up here will definitely grab it.
Nice guitar, I also have that model
Yeah its a great Baritone
I sold that ibanez guitar years ago. I contacted the guy some years later and he refused to sell it. 10 years later I'm still looking for one.
Yeah its a great baritone. I was maybe gonna sell mine awhile back but was worried about the regret. Hahaha....
Damn, I really miss the MMM1 I had back in like 2004. ... I hate thieves. ...

Wow great job! Nailed it
Thanks!
Muito bom
You deserve at least 500k subs. Keep going bro love the content!

Awesome stuff, I love vids like this!
Your channel is great
This is such a helpful video!
Great! Thanks for the video!
Great work!
AWESOME DUDE!
Cool man good job. I’ll have to see if the AxeFX has the JMP1!
totally ,awesome!!!
I just used your sludge metal preset on ampire for my own summer, lhabia, and engine no. 9.
Thats awesome. Glad the preset was helpful

GREAT JOB!
hey man! love this, please make a how to sound like for the bands Tool and If these trees could talk!! 🙏🙏🙏
Tool is definitely on the list. Hope to do one on Tool soon. Stay tuned....
Nice!!!!!!!
Please do Whirr
I'm pretty happy with the amp sims and amps I have but I kind of want stl amphub for the jmp and the tpa2.
The JMP is great in Amphub. One of my favorite amps in the collection
Sounds sick!

Ayyy I noticed that accent! Fellow South African!
Haha, Saffas!
Dude you should make an impulse of these tones.
Haha, first I need to figure out how to do that. I can export out the Impulse from MIKKO, but no idea on how to capture the amp tone as well. If you got suggestions, let me know
@@GaryHiebner sadly i'm also not sure how to get the amp sound. There are videos on how to do it using a pink noise signal but i'm not that smart lol.
Hey man i cannot find the mikko plugin in my daw (pro tools) how can i activate it? Thx!
When you install Mikko make sure to tick the AAX option so that t installs the ProTools plugin.
@@GaryHiebner oohw oke i will install it again and make sure to tick only the aax than! I think i tick all the options.. hehe
7:55 that’s just chorus and flanger? No reverb? Which pedals do I use to make it sound far away?
Yeah for the tone no reverb. To push it back in the mix I adjust the volume fader and sometimes you a tad but of reverb.
Am I fool for trying to figure out how to do this on BandLab
Should be able to do the same thing in Bandlab. The principles are still the same.
fucking nailed it man! Great video. Another challenge; you think you can do Adrenaline guitar sound? ;) Keep it up bro
Thanks man. Will think about doing an Adrenaline one. Tone very different on that album
@@GaryHiebner very challenging one indeed, Standard tuning tho, but unique sound, always loved it, some hate it
Hey kinda new to the amp sim thing. could I incorporate my Boss SD1 pedal to bounce back and forth between the heavy and clean tones if im playing with some friends and not using recording software?
Are you using the SD1 as a Drive and not a Boost? Depends how heavy you want to go. If you looking for hi gain the SD1 may be a bit lacking
8:38 Little too heavy on the bass at this part but the guitars are almost dead on. Very very nice job.
hopefully steph watch this, because you got his exact tone
Haha. Hopefully. That would be awesome!
just realized that i have a jmp 1 laying around in my basement
Don't let that gather dust. Use it!
How to get that sound on multi effect?
What multi effects are you using? If there is a way that you can split your signal going to two different signal paths then you can do it that way.
What program are you using? I’m a rookie to use computer for music
I'm using Studio One and a bunch of plugins. I really like the workload in Studio One. There's a 30 day demo. So you can try it out and see what you think of it.
@@GaryHiebner thanks for the feedback
Can you do this in ableton
Wish I could for you but I dont have Ableton. But the same steps can be done in Ableton
What model pickups are those in your ibanez?
It's a DiMarzio D Activator Neck Pickup in the Bridge, and a DiMarzio Evolution in the Neck
might seem like a dumb question, but how do you connect the guitar and amp to the software?
I connect my guitar to my audio interface. And the AmpHub amp sim plugin runs within my DAW, Studio One.
Can you do the band nothing?
The video only focusing on the Guitar Tone
Toan
Next episode I want bring me the horizon
Which BMTH era?
@@GaryHiebner there is a hell and sempiternal

Step 1. Listen to a lot of HUM lol
Haha. Very true.
Took me at least five minutes to realize that there is no guitar brand that is called "Aberness".
Also great job, your sound is unreal.
Why would you even mention ATF and Pony when clearly they don't use that tuning nor baritone for those albums? Weird video!
Gary Heibner - The Anti-Bieber
Cool man good job. I’ll have to see if the AxeFX has the JMP1!
