  • Full build of Revell London Bus Routemaster 1:24 (07651). This is the final part of a series of videos which demonstrate the complete build. The videos provide in depth hints and tips which I think will be proved useful to people who want to build the kit.
    The forth part include:
    1) Exterior parts installation.
    2) Clear parts (windows).
    3) Final details and decals.
    4) Showcase of the finished model.

    George, you made a comment in one episode saying it looks almost real. It IS real- real small! One of your good suits is you show the problems you had and how you worked through them. I don't see that quality very much on other videos, and it gives people like myself a lot of confidence I can do the same with the problems I will inevitably encounter.

      Thanks again! English is not my first language (as you probably noticed). What I meant to say was that it looks realistic. "Look almost real" is a direct translation from a Greek expression.

    You’ve done a cracking job on that. The small gaps in the mouldings at the back can be filled with cellulose stopper. It’s a really fine filler and sands very easily and smoothly.

    You've done a great job of building this model! I've just bought one of these, so I'll refer to your videos again during my build. I'll certainly use your tip for painting the clear window parts. A couple of points, though I don't think you'll be able to use the information now that your build is complete- they may help others. The decals for the seats need to have a matt finish, as these were made of a rough hard-wearing cloth, almost like a carpet. Also, the large adverts on the side were pasted on, usually over several older ones, so they don't need to conform to the detail underneath. I may do mine by glueing the decal to a thin sheet of plasticard and then fixing that to the model. As I live in London and Routemasters are still used on a couple of routes, I'll have to take a trip on one and get some reference photos.

      Thanks man and good luck with yours. When I build this kit I did not had enough modelling experience and and I only had few products (just gloss varnish). Also, I avoided weathering in purpose because I was afraid that I would ruin my model. It is a great idea to use matt cote on the seat. Maybe a tear or two in some seats as well. I was tempted to insert the adverts with the cardboard (same reason you mention) but there was a risk of mould or yellowing over the years. I did not think of transfer them into plastic sheets (also a good idea). Just be aware that the fitting of the panels is not great or maybe it is just me. I was in London last Christmas and on the way back I saw a classic routemaster and people having their afternoon tea on it! I will definitely have a ride when I will visit again.

    Great build. I'm doing mine at the moment. I'm an old fart with lots of years of building experience so I'm confident in my abilities to make this. I'll probably light it all up on the inside on both lower and bottom decks as well as the front and rear head lamps, destination boards both front and rear will also be lit up. I've read a couple of other reviews about the rear top-end section not being quite aligned properly or just being a pain to attach so you're not alone in that and I haven't got to that point in my build yet.

I have just bought this kit so your video has gave me some horrors to look out for so i am forearmed! talking about bad fits I had a 1/8 scale Monogram pontiac firebird years ago, all was ok apart from the hood which was warped slightly and the mould line across the rear boot showed up like a sore thumb.. the kit was gloss black from the factory thats the only thing that made me prime and respray it, anyway thanks for your great videos all 4 of them made great informative viewing!.. thank you!

    George you did a beautiful job on this kit however, and I'm not knocking your work, you forgot to paint the black rubber fender splash guards around each wheel well my friend.
    In the future should you decide to build another one of these, or any kit where fine lines need to be silver like the interior trim and the windows, Sharpie makes these new metallic pens in both silver & gold and they make for easy work & beautiful lines like that.
    Finally, I have the exact same problem with the upper end caps fitting properly so I carefully sanded the edges of both until they fit perfectly plus, I plan to build the entire outer shell as one sold piece and then slide it over the finished interior and glue it at the bottom. I tried it first by taping the entire exterior body so it was one piece and my idea worked out perfect. All I need to do is simply finish the kit here one day soon, lol.
    Again, you did an amazing job on the kit and you can still color the rubber wheel guards with a Sharpie in black or brush those flat black by hand... or you can leave it as is and tell me it's your kit and you're happy with the kit just as is!👍

      Hi Barney. Thanks for your recommendations and the spot of the fenders. My modelling skills back then were not great, this is why I went for one colour for the exterior. Another guy also spotted the missing cream line at the top of the bus. To be honest I was afraid that I will ruin the model (also this is why I didn't do weathering). The one piece body is great idea but I do not think I will ever do the kit again. Also, life is going on, I am constantly working on new projects and I do not feel like go back to my old kits to correct them. Thanks again for the tips.

    You have done an absolutely amazing job on this. Just a quick note however, there are details and paint-outs that you have clearly missed that would enhance your current model. Also, consider using "Bare-Foil" chrome foil on certain parts to add even more realism and don't be afraid to use Tamiya putty in those little gaps that may occur if you can't align them any other way. All that said, still a top notch job buddy! Well done.

      Thanks for the tips! I was pretty amateur back then to be honest and I did not had the confidence to do a lot of what you suggesting. My biggest challenge was that most of the assembly required painted parts which I was dreaded to put together. Anyway, I am happy the way it came up and it is my only model that I display on my living room (also the only one that get approved by my wife).

    That little bit of improper fit was caused by some rowdy concert -goers after they had attended the Rod Stewart extravaganza and got all liquored-up. They had a big row inside the bus and bent the panels. There was nothing you could do. Police are still looking for the culprits. Carry on, George! Cheers! Cork

    Great build. Thanks for sharing. Just a minor question for the large ‘decal’ I suppose it should be cut the whole piece and glue on the bus instead of ‘decal it’. Thanks again very nice work.

    • @GeorgeModellingforBeginners
      @GeorgeModellingforBeginners  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes you are right this is what Revell suggest. However I was reluctant to do it this way because the paper (below the decal) might become yellow or disintegrate after some years. With the hindsight, what I would do is to place the decal on a thin styrene sheet and then slide it to the bus. In this way it will look more realistic I think.

    Very nice job on this bus! I recently purchased this kit online since I currently have time on my hands. This is the first model I have ever built. Had I known how big and complex it was I probably wouldn't have chosen this for my first go. But now it's here and I am building it. I used the Leyland engine, I love the wires that you added on your engine. So far mine is looking good, although I failed at applying the fuel decal on the fuel line. I'll have to research how to apply decals before I get to the remaining ones. I have a question on the wheels if you don't mind. Do I glue the two back wheels together or just let them spin independently? I made sure the hubs are not glued so the wheels will spin, I'm just not sure if the two back wheels should be glued together so they spin on the hub together. Thanks.

    • @GeorgeModellingforBeginners
      @GeorgeModellingforBeginners  Před 5 lety +3

      Thanks man for you good words, much appreciated. You are very brave choosing this model for first build. It was my 7th build and still was very challenging. I hope my videos will help you. The kit is not only fairly complex but it has some fitting issues as well. Also take into account that you need to attach some painted parts together which makes things even worse. But hey, I do not want to discourage you I am sure you will get it done. Just remember to be patient and watch plenty of videos on modelling. The decals are generally quite easy although this kit has so many. Also the big decals are scary but they are thicker than usual so it should be ok. Use paint brush to transfer it to the model and manipulate. Never use your hands! For the wheels I would suggest not glue them (as I did). Yes some of them are not very tight and they spin onto the rim but it shouldn't matter. Good luck!!!
