Well Ed Sheeran was a cover version itself. The song was written by Steve Earle an first recorded by Steve and Sharon Shannon on his 2000 album Trancendental Blues.

After listening to an English man do a cover of this song, I've now heard an Irish-American girl perform it! Love the flowing red hair and your vocal gymnastics, Malinda!
it would be extra surprising if an English man didn't try to appropriate or claim a part of Irish culture especially if it's "popular" at the moment. I'm not even Irish, but I just roll my eyes so much at this stuff. Just leave it man, it's never gonna be yours to claim admit it.

I love this already, one of my favorite artists singing one of my favorite songs. However I do agree, I would love to see this version but with Malinda playing her Irish flute on the background!
She does have a slight accent when she talks. You can hear it in several of her other covers where she introduces the song first before singing it.

This is quite possibly my favorite. Not because the original was mind blowing but because of how well you made the song your own! I can say with certainty, there is no version of this song that sounds quite like yours!

Thank you for pointing that out! I listened to it again on .75 speed to hear the words clearly and you are so right! She _consistently_ says " *but* I kissed her on the neck". So then I had to find the Ed Shearan official video--guess what? He *never* says *but* , which I guess means in his version, _he_ was the Englishman she fell in love with? But in hers, *she* gets the girl?!
I only wish Malinda's version would have her on a balcony with a lovely lass in her arms like the ending to Ed's video.

Actually there would be autotune- every modern musician uses it. Autotune is actually undetectable on good singers. All that robotic crap is either a stylistic choice or because the original voice is terribly out of tune. I think i can actually pick out a particularly obvious autotune moment in this song- the line around 2:21
Personally, I think autotune has ruined many a singer. Love the fact that Malinda doesn't use it.
