  • With the Hollywood screenwriters' strike now in its sixth week, unions are demanding guarantees that artificial intelligence (AI) will not be used to create new content. Could AI eventually replace writers and directors or even actors and singers? How effective and how credible are current AI tools? Are they truly a threat to the entertainment industry that could lead to hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs - or a golden opportunity to increase productivity? FRANCE 24's Los Angeles correspondents Pierrick Leurent and Wassim Cornet report.

If the strike lasts forever I would be happy that I didn't get the perfect life I wanted as a kid back then

this reminds me of when workers destroyed spinning wheel because it could string yarn faster than them and the workers feared they would lose their jobs this is so primitive

What could possibly happen is that AI will replace the studios instead of the studios will replacing the artists!

AI will nearly replace all of the modern jobs, especially with Nvidia's new breakthrough in Cloud Computing and new H100 Grace hopper chip. Even H100 will look archaic couple of years down the road that is the pace at which breakthroughs are happening. Good luck fellow humans.

ai will never be approved by the producers, writers, directors and actors when the deals come very soon and more support from the world.

There is no stopping the increasing penetration of AI and associated robotics in the evolving new world. Writers, too, will have to be extra-sharp to retain superiority over ever-smarter AI.

They don't need to be extra sharp. They rather have to find jobs in construction or somewhere else.

@@stephenziga2319 Even that is doubtful, although construction job will last slightly longer that's true.

@Tate525 AI is never coming to kay blocks or paint a building and 3D printed buildings are so expensive, people still build the traditional way.

As ridiculous as this may sound, and we're just talking about a bit of music and scripts full of clichés, we mustn't forget that stories are the most powerful form of communication. Until now, it has always come from humans, but what will happen when the AGI forms the stories 100% itself? With the invention of printing, various religions have spread extremely fast, what will happen when an AGI fed with millions of intimate data starts telling stories? This all sounds like sci-fi, but the danger is rapidly becoming more real. Do we humans really want "aliens" to tell our stories?

"aliens" have been telling our stories since forever!

    • @Tate525
      @Tate525 Před 11 měsíci

I mean that's the thing right, but in this hyper profit based economy, if the Alien tells better story than the human for a dollar less, we will go with the Alien.

The general population doesn't like new stories. They like old stories with a twist. Even Shakespear's stories were in the anchient Greek tradition.

    “homogenized writing”?
Hollywood already is full of homogenized faces of actors and actresses with the same-straight noses, jaws, chins, non moving foreheads - everything “corrected”. All shows are with her characters talking at the same fast speed. No variations, no quirks. Boring.
Actresses make themselves unrecognizable as they age to stay forever young - how is that DF already not artificial?… intelligence or not.

What are they complaining about most of their work today is looking at old movies and TV series and doing a weak rewrite or "reimagining" and then proudly showing it off as their work. That's literally what AI does for a fraction of the cost. The same benefit China manufacturing provided consumers is the exact benefit AI will provide consumers. High in the writing and quality writing will just command a better price

Not just the left, the silicon valley at this point is indirectly plotting destruction of daily livelihood of people all around the globe. Few nerds now have more power than the entire governments combined.
