I’m quite upset that Guerlain has changed the sizes of Guerlain Rouge G lipsticks and cases, as well as the formula. It’s a ripoff for the consumer, an act of pure greed. Guerlain had had the best lipstick formula on the market, imho, and the coolest cases. I wish they’d heed to the old Ann Landers axiom: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Totally agree on the Guerlain lipsticks, just gifted my mom one and specifically asked her to keep the case... what a disappointment to see such obvious corporate greed. We all know it's the main business motivation but don't make your regular customers angry!

Haven’t finished watching yet, but I have to respond to the Guerlain issue! I feel very betrayed and made a fool of, because I trusted that these lovely cases would be refillable collectibles - just 11 months ago I gifted my daughter one (the beautiful summer floral one) and told her how she’s be able to continually refill it, which makes me feel like an idiot. This is clearly a case of rampant greed and, like you, I have not bought either a new lipstick nor a new case. I feel by boycotting them, we might be able to send the message we are displeased, since the bottom line is all they care about apparently. I am a really old time customer, having bought my first Mėteorites in the early 1980s and my first fragrances even before that (I lived in Europe then). I really hate feeling this way. Oh, and don’t get me started on their concern for their impact on the environment and championing sustainability! Leaving people with loads of unusable lipstick cases is not sustainable! Ok, back to watching and thank you for addressing this issue and doing so at the beginning of your video!

I’m so angry about the Guerlain relaunch of Rouge G because it’s not just a waste of money, but it makes the old cases junk. It’s a disgrace. And you’re 100% right that the new case could have been retrofitted.

I too am upset/disappointed about the Rouge G lipstick case change. I was a collector of them, as well as gave them as “forever” gifts to others. Knowing what they are able to do to their loyal customers leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I will absolutely not buy the new ones and feel Guerlain let us down. Knowing that, I am not entertaining really picking up anything new from the brand. I am sure that will fade, but I will absolutely not buy any Rouge G lipsticks and cases. There are too many great alternatives out there. Guerlain just had an edge with the cases on top of a good lipstick formula. 💔

I have collected the Rouge G cases since they came out. For every sentimental occasion, my husband has purchased a lipstick and case, and engraved them with something meaningful. Now those precious memories will end of in landfill once the lipstick finishes, or expires/goes off. How sustainable is that?
I won’t buy these. Maybe a special holiday case or colour, but I am going to lavish my love and attention on the cases and lipsticks that I already have.

I bought a new Rouge G case and a newly formulated lipstick. The case (tortoise/gold) is beautiful and is a tad smaller, but when you open it and set it down, it won’t sit flat. The weight of the mirror tips it over onto its side. As for the satin formula, it is superb. I bought shade 518 which is a midtoned warm pink. You can put a new lipstick in the old case, but not vice versa. Rouge G has always been a favorite, but I think I’ll just buy the lipstick without the case from now on and keep the black plastic tube cover.

I agree with you 100% about Guerlain! I'm so disappointed in the lack of advanced notice/transparency about the Rouge G changes. They were still producing the old cases as recently as this spring when I bought the sakura case. If I had known, I never would've purchased it. It feels like a slap in the face to say they are all about sustainability and the environment when they make a change like this. Many brands have done this over the years - I have so many fancy cases, including the collectible Meteorites pressed powder compact and other fragrance cases from Guerlain, where they stopped making the refills, so you were just stuck with empty components. However, the difference now is that they claim to be producing these components in the name of sustainability as well as the collectible aspect, so it's a huge turn off. This is definitely strike 2 for me with Guerlain this year after they changed the fragrance of the Meteorites powder. I'm getting tired of stockpiling makeup that is being discontinued, it has an expiration date so there's only so much you can pick up.

I recently ordered the entire Addiction Tokyo seashells collection for summer and I was so happy with it all, except for the Glitter mascara which I don’t recommend. I loved everything, esp eyeshadow formulas. It reminds be of old Suqqu and Surratt, but more pigmented. Wonderful product. Check out the blushes! I loved the lip tints that look like a shiny, smooth stain, but weren’t drying on me.
With Virginie Viard leaving Chanel and rumors Hedi Slimane taking over, we can guess how makeup collections may look going forward. I’d guess a bit more subdued. I just want better formulas whatever the direction. The R2W will probably be a drastic change if you loved Viard’s designs.

Jen, I only started purchasing the Guerlain Rouge G Lipsticks and Cases last year! I have about ten? I did purchase these due to being recommended but also because I wanted to personally try the brand. I bought several different formula of lipstick and did so during the times we love best - Sales! So, imagine my disappointment with Guerlain after pulling this stunt and will be receiving a correspondence from myself as they are taking us for fools and I'm angry! I just started with these lipsticks and now the cases are redundant, only to be left with searching the secondary market for refills. Jen, it's not your fault that I bought these lipsticks, it was my decision and something I wanted to do. If you want to buy these newer ones, I will definitely not hold it against you. If they are eventually reduced, I may purchase myself. Its just the I've lost any trust in Guerlain due to this deception. Of course, they could gave made these new cases to fit the older lipsticks, they simply wanted to make more money on this marketing ploy. How naive to think that the customers wouldn't be upset!
Prada! Everyone keeps buying the 'blue' balm that is always going to turn pink, (the initial green was universal), yet I want to see the coloured ones tried. I'm in love with this brand and own every eye palette and many lipsticks - but I want more! Due to having very dry lips, Id like to see how these perform, although I'll be waiting for the Selfridges Sale at the end of the year.
I can't remember if you ever covered Rabanne. Another brand that I've fallen for and own almost every product. I have all four Quads and every Duo except for one that consists of two bright creamy textures. Their lip balms are something special and AU$20.00 cheaper than Prada's. Theyre so creamy and there is actually colour pay-off. They also have products that you can mix into other cosmetics or use alone. After buying all if these, I felt like the mad scientist of beauty. Yet, so much can be altered by using these. I also bought the gold/silver glitter topper to go over mascara. As I didnt need mascara, I can't speak on those. I also bought the three metallic lipsticks and a few of their regular ones. The packaging is beautiful and the prices very reasonable compared to other luxury brands. I cannot fault any of their products and I basically have the range.
It was through YSL that I discovered your Channel, Jen. I had purchased the large Couture Clutch Palettes and was looking around for anyone else who had them. I found a great deal of products from YSL that I'm very happy with. It's such a shame that it took the new Quads to finally awaken everyone to the great products that they produce. Just like the four Burberry Quads, I feel that YSL are staying with colours that are conducive to all age groups. Although, the only palette I bought was the L/E Blue /Green. The others are beautiful and I would love them all but I have far too much now. YSL do need to expand on lip-liners, eye-liners and hopefully bring back blush and highlighter.
Dior has pretty much lost me. It's run by the richest man in the world and they couldn't get something as simple as a reformulation correct. I love the Addict Lipsticks and Cases, yet not that much interests me anymore. I don't like the replacements of the Backstage Eye Palettes and have only purchased Smokey Essentials. I had been collecting every palette, yet not now. When you look at the original colour stories and compare the replacements, it's a no brainer that they've ruined the line. I have so many Maximisers that I don't need more, the same with Glow Balms and in future I'll be buying Rabanne's. I honestly have no interest in these new Duo Palettes as I just don't need them.
Ah, Chanel. The first brand that I really delved into in my 20s. I so loved the products they released, their lip products hold a secret that actually treats my dry lips and they have surprised me with recent releases. The Byzance Quads blew me away! I love them. It was due to them being so different from what they normally release that I was so excited when I saw them that I purchased them all. I have no issue with the Balm Essentials, yet only tend to buy those that can be used over the face in many ways. I bought their Eye Quint at Christmas and even added the Duo Highlighter which I enjoy and added a liquid lipstick in Inflexible, a golden bronze. Their products can be rather hit and miss with me and these are usually the cash grabs of the over-sized products that no-one would get through if it was the only product used in a lifetime! Have always loved their mascara and bought their primer last year after not that thrilled with Dior's mascara. I only have a few lipsticks in iconic red shades as I don't need anymore - I'm swamped. They got me with the Highlighter early this year that shifts from pink to blue, something else rather new to Chanel. I added to this the Balm Essential in Mermaid Glow. I'm turning more towards some of Chanel's products, as I turn against Dior. I'm buying much more from Givenchy too, which is a brand that is very underrated, especially their eye-shadows. Please don't show that new Chanel release again as I won't be able to restrain myself! Id be happy with everything on the page, yet that won't be happening. I just love the compact with the Berry Blush and Pink Highlighter. I love the other too, yet one is the limit. I won't be getting a Balm Essential, yet if you feel you have to buy one Jen, despite not liking them, I hope its the deeper shade. I like the look of the neon-like green eye-liner which goes beautifully with the Natasha Denona Yucca Palette. I went out on a whim to try some eye-liners from the Sephora Collection. They had a sale of Buy 3 products, get one free. I went for some beautifully coloured retractable liners that applied so very soft and look amazing in the shades I choose. I also bought a regular pencil, yet only due to it being in a most incredible mint shade. I was so impressed by these, that I will be getting more of the retractable ones in particular. When it came to washing the swatches off only my thumb, they would hardly budge, even with soap and a tissue! Can't wait to wear them.
I did go on a tangent to try brands I hadn't used before and NARS was one. I purchased the Stargazing Eye Palette, Face Palette and the L/E Audacious Lipstick. Great products all. I even picked up the Summer Unrated Eye Palette from eBay but I'm afraid I have so much, adding another brand is senseless. Unless they come out with something super special, I won't be buying anything else soon.
Jen, why would you spend $6,000 on fashion jewellery from Chanel when you can invest in stunning fine jewellery that no-one else will own? I have a beautiful fine jewellery collection, even a piece that is the only one on the continent. Believe me, it didn't come close to US$6,000! I'd rather you be an individual and invest in antique jewellery or anything other than these pieces that are nowhere near the quality of what is charged. Why not go into Tiffany & Co. and buy something special there or another well known Jeweller? If only you could see what I have and Chanel's endless multiples wouldn't interest you so much. I'm only offeting up other options, if you are adamant you want Chanel, it's your money to do as you please.
Well, that's it for my long run-down on each of these brands and may I add that Shiseido is another brand that's greatly overlooked, just like Rabanne. Thanks Jen for these discussions on what our feelings are about the brands. You're the only one that does this as far as I know and it's very much appreciated, Kris.🇦🇺💖👩🏼‍🎨

I am not falling for it again Guerlain. I will stick with your disposable lip products. I was also upset when they changed the Meteorite scent. The new scent is nice (Samsara ish) but the original was iconic. Why not make all special edition shades in the new scent? I am done with the new normal....the unending parade of reformulations. Companies never used to tell us about a reformulation. They would do it. Now companies change the tiniest thing and use it as a means of marketing. A product would have to offer truly next level performance or something really special for me to buy it at this point. I hardly comment, but I am glad you mentioned Guerlain. I have been a long-time user, especially the Terracotta and Meteorites Perles. The first time they came out with Rouge G, I was smitten with the formula and shades. I was reluctant because of the case. I bought only one and was disappointed because it was big and bulky and was weighing down my purse! So that was it for me. Only one. And now, I am more disappointed where they raised the price on the perles, does not smell as pretty as it did and lowered the quantity, not to mention shimmer! I don't want to look like a disco ball! thank you!. Terracotta also does not smell 'pretty' as in the past in my opinion. So yes! disappointing (don't take us for fools Guerlain!). I have this beautiful silver lipstick case from my great grandmother (probably bought in the 20’s)- it’s designed similar to the guerlain, with open mirror concept, but it is real silver and it is smaller profile (no plastic inserts, just a silver holder for a bullet) - it has the cutest red button - I wonder who made it, how, much it cost, and what the brand was. It still has residual red lipstick, though I remember as a child that it still had 1/2 the bullet; it smelled like that perfect, lipstick waxy scent, but kind of really *off* from age too - it was old even 50 years ago - I bet I could remove a bullet from another lipstick and use this case - it might be messy - it may be too small of a holder for modern lipsticks
But actually, I won’t… bc the case is not as convenient or slick or secure as new cases - it is just a little bobble of memory for me and some makeup history -
BTW, I bought the guerlain tortoise and a new satin - the case is beautiful, slicker, lighter, glossy - the formula is also lighter and smoother, with less scent - I like it - I remember a few years back finding these beautiful cases and lipsticks and then, for some reason, I found a bunch of comments on the internet about how the “old cases” were different from the “new cases” and people were mad - so, fortunately, I knew it would obviously happen again and I always just bought the “package deal” for the full price - I never finish lipsticks bc lipstick is my thing, so reusable is not anything that will ever be something that I can participate in - plus, things get scratched and messy and old - I baby my makeup and my Westman Atelier containers are trashed, no idea how, but I’ll never refill them (not like she makes refills????)
I wish they had given us a warning first, especially for reusable and intricate packaging like this - but packaging will always change, which is all we can count on - any other claims are marketing tricks, unfortunately - or maybe “good intentions” but intentions are always replaced with ease of production and cost - I don’t believe it was a money grab … just normal turnover

Ok, I was researching “why did guerlain do this” casually on the internet
Found a 2018 case about guerlain not being able to patent this specific shape (while it was allowed in a previous case)
And most interesting to me is… I found my exact great grandmother’s lipstick case picture used online! On this site femmefashionforward I found that guerlain apparently made the lipstick tr 20:50 end more acceptable in polite society … then
‘Following this, in 1915, Maurice Levy invented lipstick with a lever that would push the stick up through a 2 inch, protective, metal tube for the Scovil Manufacturing Company. This American company was the first to mass produce lipsticks in a metal tube.”
And a picture of my lipstick case! Could it be from my great great grandmother?!
Well… change can be irritating and they’re always changing and marketing to get more money out of us… but the history is fascinating

I’ve been collecting the cherry blossom cases but those stay home and I purchased them knowing they would expire-but I have a classic case that I carry around and change out the lipsticks. Well, I used to-I guess there’s no classic anymore. I was upset they changed the scent of the Meteorites (old Guerlain + Physician’s formula butter balm = new scent). Instead of this dumb cash grab, they could have increased their revenue by creating some innovative new products that their loyal customers would buy.

Agree with you on Guerlain and about the Makeup by Mario bronzer. Splurged on higher priced cases and I still covet the denim case, which are all now useless :-( Love the fair shade and its staying power and how it sets. It pairs beautifully with TF Terra or Gucci bronzer imo, and bought a backup. Thank you for informing us about the upcoming releases and reformulations!

Thankyou for your sharing your thoughts on the guerlain lipsticks. Had purchased my very first case this year - the cherry bloom because I was so intrigued by the Japanese design story. Extremely disappointing to know I won’t be able to get a proper refill for it when the time comes.

Good morning. I’m to am very disappointed with Guerlain. I have a few of their limited edition cases, such as the cherry blossom and last summers denim Jean case that I absolutely love! The excuse that it was product sourcing for the reason to change is inexcusable….it is greed pure and simple. The cases were exclusively designed for Guerlain and were produce to their specifications and they owe the consumer an apology, imo and be responsible by offering a resource to have the older cases refilled. Will that happen…No, but it would go a long way to improve their relationship with consumers who feel cheated.

I don't know if you are interested in reviewing skincare brands but I have discovered one that I just love. The brand is Dr. Burgener and it's from Switzerland. Actually truly good for sensitive skin, I have no irritation at all from this line and it's the only line I've ever used that actually does reduce my facial redness and leave it calm and clear, even after cleansing. I am in my 6th decade and have been playing with high end skincare and makeup since I was 12 years old, so I know a thing or two. ( I probably should have been a dermatologist.) Very pure, very gentle, very pleasant to use and really treats my skin with respect, moisturizing it and protecting it by day and throughout the night, very effectively. That is the battle for me, finding products that do not irritate or cause an allergic reaction, that moisturize all day and again upon reapplication all night and are not heavy, greasy, oily, do not cause clogged pores, etc. and comfortable to wear makeup over. And no, I do not work for this brand and am not affiliated in any way, I'm just a customer, a very pleased customer. Also, Dr. Burgener makes these facial cleansing mitts that are extremely soft to wash with. They are pricy but effective in that there is no scratching, roughness, or irritation at all and I have been using wash cloths for baby's skin from many brands. My skin turns red from the slightest touch so I need the softest of items including makeup brushes. Anyway, if you are interested you may want to check it out.

Jennifer I couldn’t agree more with you about Guerlain. It’s so blatantly greedy. I liked the lipsticks but they certainly aren’t the only ones I favour and there are so many good ones available now I don’t feel that I want to support that greed further. Yes the cases are/were beautiful but a case isn’t a deal breaker for me. I will continue to buy Mitsouko and Shalimar because I have loved them for 30 years but lipsticks? Not important enough to me.

Jennifer, great update on what’s coming for our money 😱😳🤪😝 so Chanel always gets me. Even when I don’t rush to purchase right away, I digest slow…. And month later bum i am buying 😂 I said I am going to skip sun-kissed powders, and Medium coral is in the mail… especially it’s hard for me to resist everything bronzed/ sun-kissed/ summer corals . Was going to skip Dior blushes, but got poppy coral one. So as long as it’s summery I am probably getting it😂. So the big jewelry 80’s trend, I love it. But not getting Chanel costume jewelry. 3 factors why it’s crazy expensive ( I used to buy those very expensive ones from Bombay, Salzburg, dubai, etc.. collections) Quality is not there. And 3- not unique … I am craving more individuality, uniqueness and quality. There are so many vintage designs and architecture artist jewelry- most of them gold plated, , definitely unique. I just purchased old Celine archives Phoebe Philo, gold plated wide cuff. Was going to get Robert Lee Morris but the cuffs , that I liked, run so small… I am so over Chanel, right now. Still loving very discreet elegant, Chanelesque effect, no logos, Karl’s RTW, but I sold A lot, even handbags. And right now I am looking more at vintage bags also… But might Chanel become great again, VV just stepped down. Who knows which direction Chanel will go…. But for me right now, it’s Old Celine, PP brand, Jill Sander, Carven and Gabriella Hearst . Great quality… details, uniqueness…., fashion forward/ style Have a blessed day🙏❤️

I own but one Guerlain lipstick case, it's a cherry blossom one from a few years ago. But I have the most perfect unique lipstick in it, 888M Noble Burgundy METALLIC, not the matte. A warm-ish red with gold foil undertone, like red foiled wrapping paper, Christmas in a lipstick. And it tends to blur around the edges of my lips and looks like an old Hollywood film with a filter. This Metallic shade is still available at Sephora in Canada, but nowhere else in the US. I guess if the cases are rubbish, at least I have the most fabulous lipstick in mine.
Interesting Viard is leaving Chanel, I loved her tweed designs. I read an article that seemed to imply that the quality issues are what the house wants a quick pivot from. Not that Viard is necessarily at fault, rather the idea of a fast 180 is what the house wants to show.
I too hearken back to 80s and 90s Chanel, mine would be a navy tweed suit on Vogue in like 93, cheerleader type mini skirt, bows. It was a young look, I couldn't wear it now. Instead I got a St. John navy boucle suit with detachable faux fur collar and cuffs. Doesn't fit me now. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

    Hi Jen,
I live in Sydney, Australia and the makeup I am buying must be available in stores. I just buy luxury products and I need to see and try them before buying. So for me small indie brands or brands not available here are a hard pass. Since I started to wear makeup I always preferred to have less but very good products than to be a makeup hoarder with a lot of low/average quality products. The brands I am interested (available in Australia) are Chanel, Hermes, Tom Ford, Chantecaille, Sisley, Gucci and Guerlain (not lipsticks). I used to love Dior but not so much these days. RMS, Makeup by Mario, Rare Beauty, Fenty, Natasha Denona, Charlotte Tilbury, Pat McGrath, Nars etc are just average in the best case scenario and not what I am looking for on your channel.
The only things I buy online are makeup brushes with natural hair. The brushes with synthetic hair I love are from Chantecaille and Rae Morris. I already have an extensive collection and I don’t need more. I might be interested only in Sonia G limited edition if it’s something exiting. Rae Morris will come soon with a limited edition set. The brushes are gorgeous but the set will be $1299 and probably I will skip it.
    Thanks for sharing!🙂

It is upsetting and confusing to me that Guerlain changed their so the new lipsticks do not fit properly the old cases. What is strange to me is that they claim to be more environmentally friendly, but what are we to do with the old cases… throw them out eventually? It seems very wasteful. They could have just made the new cases to fit and people would have still bought them

It would have been so easy for Guerlain to make the new lipsticks fit into the old cases. There's really no excuse. But it's not just the lipsticks. I’ve tried 3 shades and it was horrible. I think it’s disheartening to sell something for $40 to look like you put nothing on your face. I love the skin enhancing balm but this serum just took off my makeup or didn’t show up at all alone.

Your choice !
