Important Note: You need SKS (Smart key) function to make the doors work by touch.
Here are the part #'s for the fobs:
OEM Fob Part # for smart access is 89994-47061
OEM Fob Part # for non-smart access is 89070-47180.
1st Part - Program to start car with new key inserted.
    1) Start with closed door
    2) Put the old (working) Key in and out 4 times, Leave it in on the 5th insert.
    3) Open and close the door 6 times
    4) Take out old (working) key (car is now in programming mode)
    a. A dash light will be solid; this means it is in programming mode.
    5) Put in new key
    a. The dash will start to flash. Once the flashing stops, the key is done
    b. You should be able to turn on the car with the new key inserted into the key slot
2nd part - Program smart feature so that you can open doors with touch.
    1) Start with door open without key inserted
    2) Insert old (working) key in and out 2 times (leave key out on the second time)
    - Complete next 2 steps within 35 seconds
    3) With the key out, open and close the door 2 times
    • Close
    • Open
    • Close
    • Open
    4) Insert key (original working key) in and out 1 time (Leave key out)
    - Complete next 3 steps within 35 seconds
    5) Close and open Door twice
    • Close
    • Open
    • Close
    • Open
    6) Put in the key (old key) and close the door
    7) Press power on the dashboard 3 times with 5 seconds in between each push.
Make sure you are not pressing on the break peddle
    8) Pull old (working) key out (you are in add mode)
    - Locks should lock and unlock
    - complete next step within 35 seconds)
    9) Press and hold both lock and unlock at the same time (old working lock - original working key) until the locks close and open once
    - For me it has taken a few seconds, up to 15 seconds
    10) Press the lock and unlock buttons at the same time (New Lock FOB) for about 2 seconds
    11) Within 3 seconds, press just the lock button on new fob.
    - Car should respond with one quick lock/unlock to verify that the new fob is all set.
Note: If the car responds with two lock/unlocks, that means:
a)It did not work and you have to try again
    - You can try skipping step #9. That worked on my sister’s car
    b) Your fob is defective
    c) You have too many fobs programed to the car - for an additional remote repeat step 8, 9, 10
    12) To end this programming, open then close the driver's door or put fob in the slot. You’re done!!!
Test by clicking lock on the doors from inside and outside the car.
    • Also test by trying to turn on the car with only the new key inside the car
NOTE: I had a little bit of Problems at the end. On my 2004 it was easy. On my sisters 2005 I had to play with the lock and unlock buttons as the new key was being programmed, and I believe I skipped step #9 for it to finally work. I do not know enough about why. I just know that if it does not flash the emergency lights right away, just play with the buttons like you see me doing in the video. Wish I could be more helpful, but I hope this will save you some money.
For black logo key fobs and vehicles without SKS try this
    1. Open the driver door with no fob in slot and the doors unlocked.
    2. Insert old fob into slot and remove it twice within 5 seconds.
    3. Close and open driver door twice.
    • Close
    • Open • Close
    • Open
    4. Insert and remove old fob once (original working).
    5. Close and open driver door twice again.
    6. Insert old fob in slot and close door.
    7. Press power on the dashboard 3 times with 5 seconds in between each push.
    8. Remove old fob from slot. - Car should lock and unlock doors twice
    9. Press and hold both buttons on new fob at the same time for 2sec.
    10. Within 3 seconds, press just the lock button on new fob.
    - Car should respond with one quick lock/unlock
    - If you get more, try again and this time, press both lock and unlock at the same time for 2 sec.
    12. To end this programming, open then close the driver's door or put fob in the slot.

I recently purchased a (new not used) Prius Keyless Remote/Smart Key.
Following your video, my wife and I tried 4 times to program it. We were unsuccessful.
We put a new battery in the old fob and confirmed there was a battery in the new fob.
When we get to step 4, which is "insert the new fob," the light does not stop blinking.
We waited 4 minutes the second time, then 6 minutes, then 10 minutes the fourth time we tried.
On your CZcams posting, you said you'd had trouble programming your sister's car.
We're hoping you can help us trouble-shoot this.

Towards the end of this journey I programmed an old Prius key, the remains of a totaled car,

      @@danielchan5341 Hello Daniel,
This all occurred several years ago-but memory tells me
the reprogramming of the old key was successful. I believe
the remote-door function did not work - a physical key was needed -
and I believe the key had to physically be put into the key slot
rather than start the car remotely.
Dealers will tell you a key already programmed from a different Prius
cannot be reprogrammed. This is only partly true. Good luck.

I was able to reprogram smart key (chrome logo) from a different Prius (same year/2004) the ignition did in fact reprogram but the door locks would not reprogram. A forum comment said that if a smart key was reprogrammed too many times this may happen. Perhaps a brand new/never programed smart key would accept both functions TBD.
In the end, this means I have to use a metal key in the locks to get in the car then insert the smart key into the dash (or trigger the under dash button/no dash smart key insertion required) to "Run" the car.
Note: two out of three key shops failed to properly cut (replicate) the blank key. They would always cut it too small. Hint: let them source the key's or buy a several cheap blanks off of Ebay.

All the sounds are there, but when I go outside and lock the car and get close to it, it does not sense the remote, or when I touch the handle it does not open. My Prius is a 2006. I don't know. I've never tried it with a used one. Intuitively though you would think it should work because it would be like syncing your Bluetooth headset to your phone. I would call the dealer and ask them the question. Tell them a relative gave you one of there old one from a car they no longer own and you want to know if it will work for your car. They'll probably try to get you to go in and pay them to do it but if they can do it it should be doable. The good thing is if it's through eBay, you have 45 days to return it. You just let them know it didn't work and they have to give you your money back

STEP 2 - This will program the fob’s keyless entry function
This procedure (steps 1. through 13.) is for black logo key fobs and vehicles without SKS functionality
      1. Open the driver door with no fob in slot and the doors unlocked.
      2. Insert old fob into slot and remove it twice within 5 seconds.
      3. Close and open driver door twice.
      4. Insert and remove old fob once.
      5. Close and open driver door twice again.
      6. Insert old fob in slot and close door.
      7. Without pressing the brake, press power button, wait a second, press it again, wait a second, press it a third time to turn car back off.
      8. Remove old fob from slot. You'll be in "add mode" at this point.
      9. Car should lock and unlock doors twice to verify it is in add mode.
      10. Press and hold both buttons on new fob simultaneously for a second and a half.
      11. Within 3 seconds, press just the lock button on new fob.
      12. Car should respond with one quick lock/unlock to verify that the new fob is all set. If the car responds with two lock/unlocks, that means it didn't work. Either try again, your fob is bad or, you have too many fobs assigned to the car.
      13. To end this programming, open then close the driver's door or put fob in the slot.

I am not sure. If your old FOB works this way by manufacturing design, You may need to go to a Toyota dealer to find out if your car is capable of the features you need/want. If it is just broken bottoms on your existing FOB, you may need the assistance of a locksmith if these instructions are not working for you. Someone I know actually used their AAA membership to have a locksmith called out and it paid for a large part of their locksmith cost to program the key correctly.

Hello, I was replacing the FOB case and battery in one of my keys (which was able to runa a car when in slot, but could not open door). After replacing battery and putting it into new case I was able to open the door but not start my car. I was trying to use method from video but it does not work What could be wrong?

It's a little bit quirky. The first round on my 2004, the dash light never stopped flashing. I tried various things to make it stop, but finally just started over from the top, and it worked, the light stopped blinking and went off after 1 minute. Then on Step 2, I did that one twice also. The second time it took, but it was kind of delayed. The new fob seemed to have to think about it for a while. I pressed on the two buttons for a few seconds, nothing. Then I did that again, still nothing. Then some seconds later, the doors locked and unlocked, and it all worked.

      @oscarkarem  Před rokem +2

That is very interesting. Glad it worked out at the end. I know I was relieved when I realized I did not have to pay $200 to have the lock smith to do it.
Quick tip. I found out yesterday that if you have AAA, call them and ask them for the locksmith they use to program FOBs, if you needed it. Tell them you have questions about the FOB. Then call them, and they will be able to charge the trip charge to your house (usually $100) and then they will charge you $20 per key to cut little key on the side.
      Anyway, glad it worked

What if u don’t have old key?

    • @oscarkarem
      @oscarkarem  Před 2 lety

I have never had that problem. I guess if you buy a car but it does not have keys at a good deal. Anyway, the way I would approach it is one of two ways. 1) Go to the dealer, they should be able to get you a key via VIN. Or 2) if you have AAA insurance, I would call them, tell them you cant find your keys. If you have a premium account, they give you $150 towards a locksmith. if you don't have one, upgrade, it is less than 150. AAA may not be as cheap as if you had an old key, but it will be way cheaper than the Dealer will charge.
good luck, Let me know if you get this fixed. I never thought of this situation so it will be interesting to know a solution for the future.

I have only done FOB's with key-less entry but I remember that when I first started playing with it, I was able to get the FOB to work, and could not get the key-less to work. that being the case, I think it may work. If you go through the steps, and don't have key-less feature, then everything else should work except the feature you don't have. Sorry i don't know for sure, but if it does work, please let me know in case someone else asks in the future.

If they think there is a sale opportunity, they will give you a number if there is one.

If you look at my notes, under show more, I wrote down every step I took to program mine. Because I did not experience your situation, I can not speak to you. However, if you are having problems I suggest calling a local dealer and asking. If they do not help, then I say have AAA call a locksmith and program it for you. I believe it is a huge discount from a normal locksmith fee, and it is still cheaper than the dealer . Sorry I could not help much, Good luck

    • @oscarkarem
      @oscarkarem  Před 3 lety

I was thinking about your challenge. I think I understand it a little better now. To program it you need to push buttons on the existing. If you have a spare, use that to program the new one. If you do not, I suggest you get a AAA membership. They pay 200.00 towards a locksmith. If you buy the FOB, they will be able to program it. Maybe they may even cover the majority of the cost and provide the FOB and program it. I have never though about that, but it is 200 towards the price of a lock smith. The other option is that if you can press the buttons, but they do not respond, then the buttons may be dirty. If you can open the case and clean the rubber contacts with rubbing alcohol, and the circuit board contacts with a pencil eraser and then alcohol, you may be able to fix this. I have done this to my TV remotes, and the functionality, I am assuming, is no different are at least similar enough. I have never opened a Prius FOB before, and looking at mine at a glance, I don't see how I would do that. However, it has to be possible since Amazon sells the shells for under 15.00. My suggestion to you is that if you are going to replace it anyway and throw this one out. See if you can clean it and use your spare for now. If you do not have a spare, then buy the new FOB first, program it, using spare or AAA, once the replacement works, then try to crack this one open and see if it can be cleaned.
I wish I could be more help
      Good Luck

Sorry to hear. If you have the right remote model, and the car is 2004 through 2009, it has worked for me many times (family had me do thiers) . if you look at the notes for the video, you can copy and paste the instructions into a word doc. If you have a printout of the instructions, it may help. I have seen websites take my note instructions and paste them on thier site (I can tell, puncturation mistakes and formate is identical). nonethelss, if they have taken the time to do that, then that may mean it worked for them as well. If my instructions do not work for you, I would try again with a different site or video. It definately works, and it is worth the money you save - at least for me. Good luck
