My dad "Les" Drinkwater rode for Wearwell cycles in the first London to Hollyhead race in 1951. He finished 9th in 12hrs 47 min 50 sec. He passed away recently aged 88

There is an annual underground, informal, unsupported bicycle race from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia across the Appalachians on odd years, and Philly to the 'burgh on even years, called "Crush the Commonwealth" that is typically a 380 mile ride. There's no prizes or sponsorship, just crazy people. The record, which is held by two brothers, is a little over 28 hours.

Typical ridiculous background music very much a product of the time , has absolutely no relationship to the action just cheapens the whole film , thankfully this sort of condescending tripe has passed into oblivion.

It’s ridiculous, isn’t it! Very ‘of the time’
